there are several classes of starships that can be boiled into several categories

civilian - standard ships, able to be accessed by most people, most common

merchant - larger ships with goods prepared to be sold, think of it as a moving store. when landed, customers can enter through a designated area and purchase items

security - strong tank-ish ships that are used in details to protect merchants from pirates or keep important people safe

freighter - large ships with fleets of smaller ships that follow, for hauling mass amounts of cargo from point a to point b

pirate - stolen and/or illegally modified ships used to rob or destroy ships, types can vary from civilian to even some security ships that have been stolen before as well
