This is a branch off of my Bioheart AU for Portal & Portal 2! (An AU of an AU if you will) and is a persona/self insert/semi-oc?
PERSONAILTY
He's rather shy and nervous when it comes to new people, often staring at others.. He struggles with facial expressions and often has very neutral and blank expressions. When you get to know him or get close to him (which is very easy), he's a lot more open and happy, and he's very open about what he thinks! He tries his best to make people happy and is willing to push his own problems aside for people. He's also very, very touchy with people quickly and ADOREEESS hugs! Mentally hes around 20-21?
(In this AU the droids are ageless after being turned into one, but still have mental ages that have the ability to continue ageing)
LORE
Zero is a prototype made to see how cores can connect to GLaDOS, to test mobile signal relay, to see how tech like that can connect to other Aperture Science equipment, and to test temporarily having the body be controlled by any other entity. He was the first prototype for this whole thing! (as to why his name is Prototype Zero) and is also why his body isn't fully finished :(
Zero's body was built with the idea of having limbs also be removable and have the ability to attach different ones! (Which is why he has mismatched hands, arms, etc) But unfortunately, since he's merely a prototype, the joints that keep the limbs attached aren't very stable and tend to fall off randomly..
Eventually, while his code was being worked on to test out different features and to see how to pinpoint certain personality traits and make it the main link in their brain, his code got corrupted. This is now making him a corrupted core, his antenna and prongs on his tail slowly bending, claws and fangs growing sharp. The scientists were rather upset by this with their work getting all messed up and fought on and on about it, unfrotnatly Zero heard all of it, making him insecure about it (In my own way, it's a link to autism for this specifically, if that helps) and so, despite it being immensely simulatingly painful, he bent it all straight and used his bangs to cover his coruppted eye.
Though, since he was now corrupted and by default useless to the scientists, he was thrown off to an old storage room and powered down.
STORY FOR THIS AU
During Portal 2, when Wheatley and Chell are making their way to the neurotoxin room (Which in this AU takes around 2 days to fully get from the turret redemtion line and then to the neurotoxin room, considering the facility is MASSIVE), they pass by the old storage room where Zero is powered down in. They decide to take a break for Chell to get any food and water, and they head into the old storage room, to which they find Zero. Wheatley doesn't put much thought into it as he's rather dismissive of the powered-down droid, but, as he's walking around trying to help find food and whatnot for Chell, he ends up tripping over the cord that Zero is plugged into, and this takes him out of his powered-down state, waking him up. Zero wakes up all confused and sees the pair staring at him. Wheatley starts somewhat apologizing and starts overexplaining on how they jsut were trying to find food and all and Zero's attention shifts to specifically Chell.. A droid and a test subject aren't exactly something you see typically. Zero slowly speaks up, asking, "What.. are you two doing?" which sparks up the conversation about how their trying to get to the turret redemption line to take away GLaDOS's last defense and then find a lift to get to her chamber. Zero, seeing an opportunity to help quickly, insists he can help find a lift as he has an internal map of the facility. Wheatley and Chell consider all this and decide to take him along.
GLaDOS gets an alert from her systems that Zero is online again (As she gets alerts for any cores that are back online) GLaDOS is quick to remember who Zero is, her curious mind wonders what could of suddenly powered him back on, but it doesn't take her long ot susepct Whealtye and Chell. GLaDOS starts to think, then, upon reading the file on him she sees the host feature, the temporty ablity to have any othe retity act as a host. And so, GLaDOS decides to use this.

NOTES
In this AU there is definitely a lottt of Zero x Wheatley, Zero x Chell, Zero x Wheatley x Chell, and of course Wheatley x Chell
Dynamics are..
Zeroley/Zero x Wheatley : Yapper/Listener x Yapper || Zero is very fond of hearing what Wheatley has to say, and occasionally, when Zero yaps Wheatley is happy to listen. They have a lot of trauma bonding, they both have done bad things and find comfort in eachother for the fact they won't judge each other for their actions.. Wheatley does find out in this au that Zero is a corrupted core as Zero's antenna and prongs slowlyy start to bend back.. and him ntocing his fangs and claws. Wheatley doesn't mention it, being respectful about it. He doesn't judge Zero for it, wasn't something in his control. (For Zero specifically being corrupted is a link to having Autism as I myself have autism) Id say outside of all this in noncanon their dynamic has more sillyness to it, Zero getting a laugh/pos out of messing around with Whealtye by saying things that make no sense and all. Alotttt of touching.. hand holding, hugs, head pats, etc
Zerell/Zero x Chell : Yapper x Listener || For Chell.. she's a closed off gal, someone who doesn't trust peopel easily, Zero is very willing to work towards gaining her trust and getting to know her better. He wants to have a connection with her and wants to be there for her. Chell struggles with expressing her emotions, oiften self isolating from people, same goes for Zero. I feel like that might be something they find comfort in each other. And.. similar to whealtye, they both woudl traumaui bond. They both have regrets, but they wont judge each other for it. Zero is naturally curious about Chell, her stoic behavior intrigues him and makes him want to know more about her. Zero would love yapping on and on to her about his interests and be happy to know she genuinely cares to listen..
in a noncanon bit, i think similar to wheats Zeor jsut loves messing with her! (in a silly way) expect with Chell, she jsut goes with it, she might be confused but shes ok with going with ti all. And yes.. of course.. lotsss of touching.. expect instead of fully mutual.. its mainly Zero clinging onto her (which she doesnt mind!)
