Antivaxers are having a normal one
By the by, the long "worms" coming out of these people... Despite the fact that ivermectin is a dewormer, aren't worms.
They're long strips of their own intestines... They gave themselves instant late stage Crohn's disease. Because they took medicine for fucking horses.
For those who don’t actually know what ivermectin is, as suggested above it is indeed used to treat parasitic worms in horses. Less concentrated solutions and smaller doses are also used for other animals like birds and cats and dogs. It is most common in veterinary practice, but can be used by humans as well in the proper dosage and concentration to cure most nematode infestations, especially in cases that are serious and require immediate worm death such as River blindness and ascarid worms. It is also an ingredient used in topical ointments and sprays for ectoparasites.
I emphasize, dosages for humans are made and could technically be safely calculated from a different concentration if these people knew what they were doing.
These people are literally taking medicine designed to kill the worms in horses and cattle, horses and cattle are much larger and thus resist higher loads of medication which is great since they generally have higher parasite loads than because, again, larger.
Now, while this drug is only known to affect roundworms and Arthropoda, there has been some recent studies suggesting it may also affect the ability of certain viruses to replicate. A few vets have begun experimentally using it as a treatment for West Nile virus with varying degrees of success. If a link between the drug and treating WNV safely is found, that will be HUGE for both animal and human medicine because there is currently no medication proven to help and patients are just given supportive care in the hopes the body defeats the virus. Indeed, if dosed properly, it’s possible this drug could help people already infected with covid. It is not known to be an effective prophylactic measure however. In other words, nothing suggests it can be taken to prevent, only to treat certain viruses, and the science on its relationship with viruses is still very new. What little research there has been suggests it could take a much higher dosage of this medication to treat a virus at all, which would be inadvisable and sadly render this treatment as a dead end because it could cause as much damage to the system as whatever it was used to treat.
When a correct dose is administered, patients should not get any adverse reactions unless they have existing damage to kidneys and liver or are less than 33lbs. Vertebrates are affected very little by the drug as our biochemistry differs greatly from invertebrates. Some may get a mild fever if they have an overactive immune system, but that’s it. People are getting sick from it because no doctor is going to prescribe ivermectin as prophylactic treatment for covid and will simply advise them to get one of the vaccines instead as it’s more affective and actually approved for use to prevent covid. So, they don’t know where else to get it but to go to their nearest feed store and buy horse dewormer, not realizing that different concentrations matter just as much as dosage.
Anyone suffering strange intestinal problems or any bizarre symptoms after taking horse dewormer should seek emergency medical treatment as they have overdosed on the medication and essentially poisoned themselves. Taking any medication in excess can kill you. Ivermectin may also interact poorly with some other medications, and as aforementioned, it can cause serious reactions in patients with compromised livers or kidneys. This medicine is prescription only in humans for a reason, doctors need to be able to screen for anything that could cause complications and there just isn’t any reason to have a human dose unless you have a condition that a doctor should be consulted about in the first place, like a high worm load. I don’t even want to know what concentration people are taking the horse dose at, but I wouldn’t be shocked that this, like some other “treatments” anti-vaxxers and conservatives swear by as detox and prophylaxis, does indeed cause intestinal shedding due to overdosages.
Ivermectin kills worms by disrupting their nervous system. In normal doses, the mechanisms in mammals are too different to have any affect on us. In severe overdoses, it can cause neurotoxicity, which could express as intestinal failure, generalized organ failure, coma, seizures, and/or death. Again, prescription only for a reason. Medicine is only safe if administered correctly.
