For a moment Sebastian was at a loss for words. This short, simple statement carried so much pain with it, that Sebastian felt insufficient to comfort the man’s heavy heart. But it was his scred duty and backing off now would be disrespectful of this man’s trust in the brother.
Shifting a little uncomfortably in his seat, Sebastian took a moment to gather his thoughts, before speaking.
“There’s a lot of people out there, who try and justify their actions by claimin’ eet happened in th’ Maker’s name. But th’ truly faithful see through those lies. They see the true reason behind eet. For they know th’ teachings of the Maker by heart and nothing that goes against those teachings could have truly happened in his name.”
Meeting the young man’s eyes, Sebastian added a bit softer: “Do ye wish to to tell me, what eet is ye saw, that has shaken yer fith so deeply?”
Keran laughs at Sebastian’s words. It is not mocking, it is a laugh made of razor’s blade and chocked words that seems to draw blood from the young man. A bark, a choking sob. Not a joyous sound.
“I am a Templar” He says, flat out. He looks at Sebastian, his blue eyes meeting the brother’s. “Are you telling me the words of the Knight Commander are lies?”
Now the young man smile, and his smile is as joyous as his laugh had been.
“That is true enough, and that would certainly defeat the whole attempt at discretion.”
“That could be accomplished by simple conversation, if he could be made to converse. Wander over to the shores while and then push. Otherwise…” Devin paused, two more possibilities appearing his mind when the mage recalled Keran’s normal duty of dealing with the Gallows’ supplies.
“You would not happen to know if Karras has a vice for drinking…in addition to his others, would you?” If Karras could be made drunk enough, he could likely be led anywhere, including to his death. That was his first thought; the other he did not wish to voice just yet as it meant endangering one of his own students.
Keran seems to think about Devin’s words, then shakes his head regretfully.
“No. Karras has... other... vices” A fleeting expression of disgust, immediately controlled, passes on Keran’s face. “Would it be he drinks. But... he does like his lyrium to be of a particular quality and can overindulge. At least, I think so. He tends to use a lot more than usual when that quality is available.”
There were days when Max felt like he spent more time pacifying the nobility in various parts of the country than he did fighting demons or other useful things. The so called War council, had been nothing more than a glorified meeting with Josephine informing them of the missives they’d received and what they contained. Afterwards, Max was left to figure out which ones to take care of right away and which ones could be left to idle for a short time, and then he had to figure out who could handle each mission and not cause a political incident. It was part of the reason Max had never wanted to be the one in charge. He knew how to do it, had been trained in such things as a child, but he’d hoped to avoid it in the long run. Until now anyway, when if felt like he had no choice in the matter. Still, the council was over and Josephine had informed him that the rest of the day was his to do as he pleased, a rare luxury of late.
The first thing he’d done was return to his room and change out of those ridiculous clothes the Ambassador insisted he wear during formal meetings and when he had to cast judgment on some poor fool. Folding them up and setting them aside, he switched into a pair of dark trousers and started hunting around for the tunic he wanted to wear. He’d just managed to locate it when there was a knock on the door, followed by Keran asking for entrance.
“It’s open,” he called back, tugging the shirt over his head and tugging it into place without much thought. Glancing up as the door opened, he grinned at the other man.
“Morning Keran, to what do I owe the pleasure of your visit?” he asked.
Keran comes in, grinning back at Max. He lifts his eyebrows at the clothes the Inquisitor has left streaming around.
“How do you manage to get all of these on?” He asks, looking at a particularly ruffled shirt and chuckling.
Then he smiles a bit unsure, shifting his weight and clearing his throat.
“I wonder if... if you would mind going with me for a picnic? I have it all planned out. Josephine and Leliana know. The food and horses are ready. And I know just the place. Nobody will bother us, I promise.”
The warrior bites his lips, looking again at Max and taking a deep breath.
“That is. If you want.”
“No, just one head.” Varric says plainly, now recognizing that his worry must be seeping through his disguise. He’d like to present himself as the carefree rake everyone takes him for. It’s an easier way of life than people thinking about his feelings. That’s the last thing he needs. The Dwarf stands upright, tugging on his gloves so the fingers pull tight against him. He seems to come to himself just then, cavalier attitude intact, worry gone from his eyes. The practiced mask slips back into place.
“Just get me those documents. The sooner we do this, the better.”
“So this is the Merchant’s Guild’s Hall? I expected something... grander.”
Keran looks around doubtfully, walking close but behind Varric. His blue eyes take in the place which is clearly make for somebody shorter than him. He isn’t very tall, but he almost touches the ceiling.
“What can your ‘bodyguard’ expects?” He asks then, adjusting the simpler armor he is wearing, without any particular symbol over, as befit Varric Tethras’ “bodyguard”.
“She tried tapering off, but…perhaps there is a different method to it,” he frowned, and shook his head. It was something to be discussed between templars – to him, lyrium was either potions to strengthen his magic, or liquid death. He could hardly imagine what it must be like.
“We weren’t meant to be stopping here for long. It has been – difficult, to say the least, to find a place safe for both of us. Mostly, we’ve just tried to steer clear of the fighting. Now that we’re staying in town for a while, though, I’m sure she’ll want something to pass the time.”
Keran nods, thoughtfully, and keeps walking. They have followed the water’s line, but now Keran steers from the inside and walks in a small, quieter alley than the rowdy docks.
“Mayneri has given us a more retired inn as sleeping place.” He explains, then chuckles. “I was grateful. Places too close to the ships tends to be... very noisy. Nothing like a bunch of sailors on shore leave to make noise, believe me. Especially after a few pints too many.”
Then he nods again, a thoughtful expression on his face. “I substituted powdered lyrium with the potions mages use.” He explains, chewing on his lip. “It worked to take the worst of it off, while unhooking myself from the stuff. It worked for me and a... couple others I know. But I am not sure it will always work, of course.”
Keran sighs then. “Have you ever consider Rivain?”
She was surprised she was though of at all.
“I… I’ll do what I can, let me get together my potions and other things we may need.” She spoke. She was going out on a limb but if any of the templars was willing to change, to see that even though mages may need to be watched not every moment was there a demon lurking.
Keran nods and smiles, then he becomes serious again as he starts speaking.
“As far as I can see, it should be a small cabal, perhaps three, four of them” He begins, giving her the basic informations. “Maybe one master and some apprentices. They don’t seem to be from Tevinter, and they move a lot, kidnapping children as they go... elves for preference, though I know not why.”
Keran waits then, for question of for Merrill to be ready.
So tomorrow I start a new job, and… it is a bit a big challenge, and I am bit anxious and scared so…
I’ll probably go in a semi-hiatus of sort. I’ll be around, I’ll write a bit of headcanons perhaps but there’ll be few replies, mostly because I don’t want to feel pressured you know? :3
Could last three days, or a week. Don’t know. Bear with me ^^

Welcome to the Wardens
“Your sister sounds lovely. I hope to some day meet her here at the Keep.” Lyna smiled encouragingly at him as he continued to speak.
He was visibly beginning to relax, a smile gracing his lips for the briefest moments. He was looking at her now and unable to read his expression, Lyna quirked a brow at him questioningly. His mouth opened then clamped shut once more. Did he have something to say?
“What were you going to say or ask?” Lyna prompted gently. “Please feel free to speak freely.”
Keran seems a bit confused about the first words of the warden and blinks.
“Is it... allowed?” He blurts out, then winces. “I am sorry. I wanted to ask what will be my duties? Aside from my martial abilities, I am... quite good with provision and accounting.”
