Site Office is a landscape architectural consultancy specialising in the design of innovative and high quality public spaces. For the past 10 years, we have been working steadily on a range of projects with a strong public realm focus, exploring different strategies designed to improve the quality of many urban spaces within the city. We are advocates of innovative landscape design solutions that become the catalyst for change within the urban environment.

We are particularly interested in the myriad of wonderful and often unpredictable ways in which people inhabit and use public space. The beauty of public space is it’s multiplicity and complexity; as such we explore design strategies that avoid simplification and reduction and seek to draw out the inherent richness and diversity of the site and its inhabitants. Our work focuses strongly on developing functional designs that offer multiple and new ways of experiencing public space. We are also interested in the overlap and interaction of different uses that often results in spontaneous and unexpected interactions.

We understand the importance of public space in promoting positive connections between people, particularly in an era that is increasingly focused on the individual rather than the community. The artistic and technical challenge of making art out of dark and derelict buildings and back city alleys excites Meyer.

To produce these large panoramic images of 100 Megapixels or more, he has to capture 50 to 100+ images of a scene, blend them together seamlessly, and map them using mathematical projections based on those first developed by ancient mapmakers, modified suitably for the nature of the scene and what he wants to finally project.

Clem Christeson

b. 1911 - 2003

Born in Townsville, Queensland, Christesen is the founding editor of Australian Literary magazine, Meanjin, from 1940 - 1974. His publication encouraged some of the greatest names in Australian writing; Patrick White, Christina Steed, Peter Carey and Martin Boyd. 

He has received significant acknowledgment for his works, and has been awarded with a Britannia Award, 1964 OBE in recognition of service to Australian literature, 1975 honorary Doctor of Letters from Monash, 2000 Order of Australia medal for nurturing creative and critical writing and 2001 Centenary Medal for Australian society and humanities in writing and literature.

His artworks have been exhibited as part of The Retro Eltham Show at Eltham South Fine Art Gallery.

Always interested in painting and drawing from a young age, Andy began his career with his involvement in Melbourne’s early rave scene back in 1993 creating UV murals for parties. His love of electronic music and all things digital lead him into the realm of computers in 1997 after finishing a graphic design course at Monash University Melbourne.  In recent years he has begun to experiment with creating a visual fusion between Nature and Technology, by taking photos of plants, insects and machines and compositing them with artificially created forms in various 3D programs. His photographic endeavours have led him to such exotic locations as Borneo, Laos and the rainforests of Tasmania and the Daintree River. 2010 and 2011 has seen the begining of the Stemcell project. Through the use of digital audio software Andy has begun to experiment with creating audio life forms that react to sounds. Corrupting nature with technology, by sampling sounds of the forest and running them through various computer programs.

Simon Normand

Trained as a sculptor, Simon Normand has been working as a professional artist and teacher for the last 25 years. He has worked on numerous commissions, exhibitions, festivals and ‘Artist in Resident’ projects in Victoria, NSW and Northern Territory during this time. After several years of visiting the community he moved to live in Ngukurr from 2003 - 2005. He now visits frequently. Ngukurr is in Arnhem Land on the Roper River.

Mary Macqueen

b. 1912 - 1994

Macqueen was born in Melbourne in 1912 and, as a 16-year-old she enrolled at Swinburne College to study commercial art. Macqueen had her first solo exhibition of watercolours in 1945. Through 1947-1947 she studied drawing under George Bell and later in 1956 joined a printmaking class at Melbourne Technical College (RMIT).

Macqueen had a strong foundation in drawing, producing mainly works on paper and favoriting lithography to convey a sense of spontaneity of her drawings.

Macqueen is represented in the National Gallery of Australia, all state galleries and many regional galleries including Ballarat, Bendigo, Geelong, Warrnambool, Morwell, Shepparton, Mornington, Newcastle, Bathurst, Tamworth, Townsville, Ipswich, Fremantle, Melbourne, LaTrobe and Flinders Universities and Art-bank. 

The original is in the possession of the National Gallery of Victoria.

Indigo O’Rourke

Indigo O’Rourke’s drawing practice evolves from a personal narrative investigating the art of the everyday. Almost all of indigo’s drawings are made with biro: there is very little or no colour.

The series of Mountain ‘scapes are drawn from photographs taken on a bicycle touring trip in New Zealand earlier this year. Drawing these mountains is as important and exciting a process of discovery as any physical exploration. These landscapes are part of a larger body of work where she continues document her life in drawings.

Ben Thomas

Ben Thomas, was born in Adelaide where he graduated from the International Digital Effects and Animation College (Adelaide). Upon moving to Melbourne, he felt as though his eyes were opened and he began his journey to discover and share these new experiences through photography.

Ben realised straight away that viewing a photograph is very personal, and emotions and experiences can, and do have a profound effect on the way an image is received. Because of that, he constantly strive to evolve his photography to make images that raise questions about the way we view the places we live. 

Ben has exhibited around the world, most recently in the USA, Paris, Berlin, Tokyo and Melbourne. He has also been featured in a number of highly regarded publications.

Ben’s first book, Tiny Tokyo: The Big City Made Mini (Chronicle Books, 2014) is now available.

Perry Lethlean of Taylor Cullity Lethlean

Perry is considered to be one of Australia’s and more recently one of the world’s  leading contemporary urban and landscape designers. His work is widely published, particularly his successful entries for major national and international design competitions including the National Arboretum in Canberra and the University of Sydney. His skills in urban design, at both the large master planning and detailed design scale, make him a valuable asset to the company and clients. He is a sought after design lecturer and critic at Universities and as a juror for professional practice awards and advisory design bodies.

Perry has led the successful implementation of complex landscape and urban projects such as The Forest Gallery at the Melbourne Museum and The  Australian Garden at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Cranbourne which won the 2013 World Architecture Forum, Best Landscape Award.
