Clem Christeson
b. 1911 - 2003
Born in Townsville, Queensland, Christesen is the founding editor of Australian Literary magazine, Meanjin, from 1940 - 1974. His publication encouraged some of the greatest names in Australian writing; Patrick White, Christina Steed, Peter Carey and Martin Boyd.
He has received significant acknowledgment for his works, and has been awarded with a Britannia Award, 1964 OBE in recognition of service to Australian literature, 1975 honorary Doctor of Letters from Monash, 2000 Order of Australia medal for nurturing creative and critical writing and 2001 Centenary Medal for Australian society and humanities in writing and literature.
His artworks have been exhibited as part of The Retro Eltham Show at Eltham South Fine Art Gallery.
