We create designs with a powerful identity, strongly related to the specific context, but also resilient and open enough to respond to uncertain futures, without loss of clarity and hierarchy. We see asking questions and giving insight as the basis of the design process. Our plans develop in close dialogue with the client and society. Our role, therefore, is never explicit, but instead based on customisation and a balance between control and participation. Site Office is a landscape architectural consultancy specialising in the design of innovative and high quality public spaces. For the past 10 years, we have been working steadily on a range of projects with a strong public realm focus, exploring different strategies designed to improve the quality of many urban spaces within the city. We are advocates of innovative landscape design solutions that become the catalyst for change within the urban environment.
We are particularly interested in the myriad of wonderful and often unpredictable ways in which people inhabit and use public space. The beauty of public space is it’s multiplicity and complexity; as such we explore design strategies that avoid simplification and reduction and seek to draw out the inherent richness and diversity of the site and its inhabitants. Our work focuses strongly on developing functional designs that offer multiple and new ways of experiencing public space. We are also interested in the overlap and interaction of different uses that often results in spontaneous and unexpected interactions.
We understand the importance of public space in promoting positive connections between people, particularly in an era that is increasingly focused on the individual rather than the community. Sharon West
Sharon West is a visual artist working across various media including photography, painting, assemblage and digital media. She has been a teacher at the School of Art at RMIT University since 1999. West completed her Masters of Art at RMIT in 2009, exploring the relationships between settler and Indigenous cultures within Australian colonial art history. She has curated a number of exhibitions and exhibited nationally and internationally. This work was part of a series that portrayed mythical indigenous creatures, which West imagined to inhabit pre-settlement Melbourne. She constructs narrative-based scenarios that parody the concept of the museum diorama, featuring models of indigenous fauna and flora and domestic scenes of Koori people.
Navigating between Australia’s colonial narratives, West offers the viewer glimpses into re-imagined scenes from colonial settlement and the dispossession of Aboriginal people from their land. West has exhibited at the Mornington RegionalArt Gallery and is currently exhibiting diorama work at the Counihan Gallery. In 2012 the State Library of Victoria purchased one of her works.

The artistic and technical challenge of making art out of dark and derelict buildings and back city alleys excites Meyer.
To produce these large panoramic images of 100 Megapixels or more, he has to capture 50 to 100+ images of a scene, blend them together seamlessly, and map them using mathematical projections based on those first developed by ancient mapmakers, modified suitably for the nature of the scene and what he wants to finally project.
