Phantom Blooms is about Mari, a former villain in a magical girl story, and her life 30 years later in the present day. (Or 2024, close enough.) As friends and curses alike from her past emerge to drag her back into the fold, she has to balance maintaining her facade as a normal human woman with mentoring the magical girls of the new generation and maybe trying to actually improve herself.

Or to put it a bit more eloquently:

Only for her to end up in one of the only other cities with a local magical girl team. Now she's one of the only adults taking care of these "Bloommaidens".

In the past, she used to be a bargain-bin Dark General. Someday, she'll basically be Tuxedo Mask minus the love interest part. Today? She's Mari Morishige, and these teenagers with attitude are going to be the death of her.

It’s a quest, meaning that there’s a few audience participation elements, but you can read without paying much attention to that! We’re about 120k words in and about to give some screentime to some of the more underused Blooms.

Do employers know that employees are actually reusable if you let them rest? Like if you don't use them up completely all at once, and give them time to rest and recover before the next work day, they just kinda grow back? That's how they used to do it back in the day, you could hire five people to do five people's workload, and then keep the same five people for 40 years without issue, instead of having 2-3 people doing five people's work and have to constantly keep looking for replacements since you keep running them to the ground, completely using up like 10-20 employees per year.

We still have access to all the same technology and materials that they were using back in the day. Literally nothing requires us to operate the way things work now.

Remember when I mentioned an early toy leak that had a theme color (yellow) that didn't match any Cures of this season?

I really, REALLY hope it's Rei. She definetely deserves being the 5th Cure. These last few episodes did her very dirty. I would also be happy with Jett-senpai but making Rei a Cure would be an amazing surprise!

one of the hardest things to learn as a depressed former Gifted Kid™ is that half-assed is better than nothing. take the 50%, 40%, even 20% job. scrubbing your face is better than not taking a shower at all. picking up your clothes is better than never cleaning. nibbling on some bread is better than starving.

DO THINGS HALFWAY. NOW YOU’RE 100% BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE.

One of my college professors used to say “anything worth doing is worth doing poorly.”  I didn’t understand that for years because I didn’t do anything poorly, I couldn’t do anything poorly, I had to Do Everything Perfectly.

But brushing your teeth for 30 seconds is better than not brushing them at all when that 2 minutes seems exhausting.  Doing ten minutes of yoga is better than 10 minutes of sitting when 30 minutes of cardio sounds impossible.  Changing my clothes is good when a whole shower is impossible.  Standing on the porch for a few minutes is worth it after being in the house for three straight days because I don’t have the energy to go anywhere.

Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly… because doing it poorly is better than not doing it.

You must understand that perfectionism isn’t striving for excellence, it’s a crippling fear of being flawed and therefore worth abandonment or punishment. It’s a kind of psychological avoidance. You’re avoiding fear and failure , not embracing the thing you want to do bc if it was about the thing you want to do you’d be fine with partial victory.
