Senjyushi Translation: Beginnings of the Resistance
I don't post to Tumblr all too much but!!! I figured since most of the (albeit very few) fans of this series are gathered here, I'd try to post more translations on this account :D for a better archive of translations please visit the Senjyushi Wiki, now hosted on Miraheze, where I primarily post my translations. If you'd like to see these on the wiki, you can find them here.
I'm no professional when it comes to translating (I only really began because there was hardly anyone there to do the job), so please excuse if there is any awkward wordings or localizations (doubly excuse any awkward localizing of honorifics </3)
To add context about this collection of 13 short chapters, it takes place early on in the original Senjyushi game and serves as a brief introduction to the antique guns ^-^
Chapter 1: After The First Battle
Charleville: Just between you and me… it’s absurd to think that antique guns like us are up against the World Imperial Army.
Brown Bess: …Hey, Charle. You’re still a Noble Musketeer summoned by our Master, aren’t you?
Brown Bess: During our last battle, you kept saying things like “let’s retreat”. Are you truly willing to fight?
Charleville: I’m willing to fight… well, of course I am. But I’m different from you, Bess…
Charleville: ……Bess, do you know what Absolute Nobility was like?
Brown Bess: Not all that clearly… Yet, you heard that voice when you were awoken as a Noble Musketeer, didn’t you? “Awaken to Absolute Nobility, Be Noble”.
Charleville: Eh… I don’t remember. I might have heard something like that, though…?
Charleville: Right? Ahaha…
Brown Bess: Huh… you’re as frivolous as ever.
Brown Bess: Right. Since you’re awakened as a Noble Musketeer, you’re destined to become noble.
Charleville: …I knew that.
Chapter 2: Ruins of a City
Kentucky: Hah… what a mess.
Springfield: Why did this happen…!
Brown Bess: It was the World Imperial Army’s doing… seems that they drop a new type of bomb on any town that resists their control. This place was likely one of them.
Charleville: They steal away our weapons to make us unable to resist, and then they destroy us with their own new weapons…
Charleville: Some towns are rebuilding, but most are abandoned in ruins like this one…
All: ……
Kentucky: …Well, no use in thinkin’ ‘bout it now.
Kentucky: We’ve still gotta crash here for the night, so we oughta find a spot to settle down.
Springfield: Ah, hold on, Kenny, I’ll go with you!
Brown Bess: Hey! Don’t disperse so carelessly, yanks!
Charleville: …You’re quite the bold one, Kentucky. As expected from a militia hunting rifle.
Chapter 3: “Emperor Napoleon”
Napoleon: Kyōdō. This base is awfully dilapidated… Why on earth is it in such a state?
Kyōdō Granbird: Ah… as a matter of fact, the base we’d formerly used was discovered and destroyed by the World Imperial Army…
Kyōdō Granbird: We narrowly escaped, and relocated our base to this abandoned weapons factory.
Nicola & Noel: Eh…!
Kyōdō Granbird: We’re lacking in supplies, and maintenance hasn’t been able to keep up… We’ll all have to endure these hardships for some time. My apologies.
Napoleon: Hm, so that’s why. However, there is no need to worry!
Napoleon: For myself, nothing is impossible! I shall magnificently lead you all to victory and make this very base look splendid in the blink of an eye!
Napoleon: And the world you all desire, a world where you are able to live freely without fear of military force or tyranny, will be practically right around the corner!
Nicola: With His Majesty with us, we’re invincible, Noel!
Noel: Yeah… his amazing tactics will take down the World Imperial Army in no time…!
Napoleon: Mm! For you see, I am the genius they call Emperor Napoleon! Isn’t that so? Rapp.
Rapp: ……
Napoleon: …Hey, Rapp! Are you listening!?
Rapp: …Yes, it is as you say. Nothing is impossible for His Majesty Napoleon.
Napoleon: Indeed! Hahahaha!
————
Rapp: “The genius they call Emperor Napoleon…”
Rapp: No, you are “Emperor Napoleon’s shotgun”.
Rapp: You and I both are Noble Musketeers awakened by our Master.
Chapter 4: Stolen Decorations
Aleksandr: Even something like an art museum is a target for destruction. What barbarity… I cannot say anything other than that it’s truly deplorable.
Aleksandr: Since many of the works of art were taken… I don’t think there are any antique guns here—
Ekaterina: Kyahhhh—!
Aleksandr: Katya? What’s the matter?
Ekaterina: L-look, Aleks. This poor pistol.
Aleksandr: This is… truly an awful sight. The jewels have been flayed off, and the decorations on the gunstock… perhaps they were ivory.
Ekaterina: Yes. Surely, this must have been a very beautiful pistol. Now, it’s in such a pitiful state…
Aleksandr: Someone must have sneaked in here, stolen the expensive jewels and ivory, and sold them off…
Ekaterina: How agonizing it must have been to be violated in such a way… How absolutely unforgivable!
Aleksandr: …Ekaterina. Let us bring this pistol to the base for the time being.
Aleksandr: Though the decorations may have been stolen, the gun’s functions may still be usable…
Ekaterina: Still, this one must have been a gun born as a work of art…
Ekaterina: Moreover, to be subjected to such treatment… would they be able to answer Master’s call?
Ekaterina: If something like what happened to this one happened to me, I…
Aleksandr: Katya. I shall never allow such a thing to happen.
Ekaterina: Aleks…
Chapter 5: Rose Scar
Ieyasu: Ghh…!
Yukimura: Hey, hang in there, Ieyasu! Master! Over here! Come quickly!
Hidetada: G-Great Generallllll! H-he’s wounded… Ah, there’s blood…!
Yukimura: Hidetada! Stop panicking and press down! We’ve gotta stop the bleeding anyhow…!
Hidetada: Great General, Great General…! My esteemed Master, please treat the Great General!
Ieyasu: …Mm, Master, I’m truly grateful.
Hidetada: Haah…! What a relief…
Ieyasu: Master, what’s the matter… Is your hand in pain?
Hidetada: Mm…! My esteemed Master, the wound on the back of your hand has opened.
Yukimura: …Hey, is Master’s wound ok? It hasn’t healed for a while now.
Ieyasu: Perhaps treating me has made their wound grow worse…
Chapter 6: One of a Kind Guns
Margarita: Ehehe, with just the three of us, it was a piece of cake!
Margarita: With Uncle and Karl, our teamwork is perfect and our maneuvers are the best♪
Leopold: Now, now, Gretl, don’t get too excited. In addition, there’s no need to charge ahead alone during the mission.
Leopold: Since we are one of a kind works of art, we must be cautious with our bodies as well… Gretl, are you listening?
Margarita: Eh, what’d you say?
Karl: Haha, Leo, it’s pointless to say such things to Margarita. When you need to, just grab him by the scruff of the neck and stop him.
Karl: However, as Margarita said, it’s sufficient with just us few.
Karl: We don’t need the backing of hindrances who cannot attain Absolute Nobility.
Leopold: Karl… do not make the mistake of saying such things in front of them.
Karl: Haha, I know. It may be true, but sometimes it’s important to keep a lid on it.
Leopold: Oh dear… you’re as harsh as usual.
Leopold: Well then. Since our mission has finished early, why don’t we stop by the palace for a bit? I hear it is still in good shape.
Karl: Hm, isn’t that great? The glorious history of the Holy Roman Empire…
Margarita: No. Nope! I’m not going. I don’t wanna go…
Leopold: Gretl…
Chapter 7: Qualities of a Noble Musketeer
Lorenz: Sigh…
Dreyse: …Lorenz? What are you doing here? It should be my turn to keep guard.
Lorenz: M-Mr. Dreyse… uhm…! Just… erm…
Dreyse: We have an early morning tomorrow, so you should rest.
Lorenz: …Yes, tomorrow… I’m sure I won’t achieve Absolute Nobility tomorrow, either…
Lorenz: The performance of my gun is much inferior than that of Mr. Chassepot and yours, Mr. Dreyse.
Lorenz: After all, someone old-fashioned like me can’t be useful…
Dreyse: …There’s certainly a difference in performance, but even I and Chassepot are old-fashioned compared to modern guns… we’re all the same.
Lorenz: We’re not the same… I’m still the one who kept losing in the war. Your qualities as a Noble Musketeer are different…
Dreyse: …Lorenz. There is a difference between self-reflection and self-deprecation. And we don’t have the time to be upset.
Lorenz: ……
Lorenz: …Yes… that’s right…
Dreyse: …Mm… Did I come off too harshly…
Chapter 8: Senior and Junior Military Guns
Radio: The enemy squad is passing through Point A. We are approximately 5 minutes away from encounter.
Chassepot: Charleville… my senior. You’re old-fashioned, so it’s best not to push yourself too hard, alright?
Chassepot: Please stay behind me, the superior breechloading bolt-action rifle.
Charleville: …I’m not some weak Noble Musketeer who you need to protect.
Chassepot: …! Don’t blame me if you break.
————
Snider: …Hm, are they having a falling out? Those French bastards are noisy.
Enfield: Senior Brown Bess. You’re very noble and strong, but I’ll protect you in times of need!
Brown Bess: …Y-You should be saying such things to Master, not me.
Enfield: Yes, of course I’ll protect Master, as well! Naturally.
Snider: Hey, Enfield. And me? Your cute little brother?
Enfield: There you go again. You’re strong, so you can protect yourself, can’t you?
Snider: …Isn’t there a contradiction in what you’re saying?
Enfield: Where? My senior is an 18th century musket, and you’re a 19th century breechloading rifle! You’re not the same at all.
Brown Bess: Hey, there’s no time for you to have a falling out! The enemy is approaching!
Chapter 9: Rampant Wrongdoings
Mahmut: This town doesn’t seem to be very lively…
Esen: Yes… in this town, the World Imperial Army’s levy on goods is intense, so daily rations are also delayed…
Esen: Rumor has it that internal embezzlement of these resources has been running rampant.
Mahmut: …Corruption, isn’t it?
Esen: Yes.
Ali Pasha: Compassion and prayer won’t solve anything. Now isn’t the time for you to say detest battle, is it?
Ali Pasha: Why don’t you face reality, Mahmut.
Mahmut: …Ali Pasha, you’re quite the strong one. However, I am a helpless Noble Musketeer who can do nothing but pray.
Mahmut: I don’t possess the power to fight…
Esen: …Sir Mahmut, are you going somewhere?
Mahmut: I’ll take a bit of a closer look at the town… Esen, please come meet me afterwards.
Esen: Understood.
Chapter 10: Family
Furusato: Everyone who has come to this Resistance has gone through such painful experiences…
Kinbee: Mm… people who’ve had their families taken away, and people who were deemed criminals for refusing to be drafted and driven out of their hometowns…
Furusato: And those who’ve lost their homes and families because of the World Imperial Army… There are many people like that in times like these.
Furusato: Since I’m a Noble Musketeer, I may not truly understand how everyone feels, but…
Furusato: I was all alone when I came to Japan, so I understand how it feels to be lonely.
Furusato: But then, Kin-kin was made, and then dear Sakai and Kunitomo, and lots more family members, as well…
Kinbee: Mm… If I’ve been of any support, I’m truly honored, Lord Furusato.
Furusato: Of course. I want to be that kind of person for everyone at this base, like how you are for me, Kin-kin.
Furusato: Everyone at this base is my precious family.
Kinbee: Lord Furusato…
Kinbee: I want to protect this base so you and Master can spend your days in peace together.
Furusato: Kin-kin… thank you ♪
Chapter 11: World Imperial Army's Search
Kiseru: Oh, Master!
Kiseru: …Phew. W-We’ve returned, Master. The scouting went well…
Cutlery: All we can do is mundane work, but… I think we made a bit of progress this time.
Cane: Yes… as for the World Imperial Army’s movements, it seems they are searching day after day for something in a restricted zone.
Cane: It seemed like a large-scale search, so it must be important to them.
Cutlery: We still don’t know what it is… we’ve tried investigating in various ways.
Cutlery: Sigh… it seems important to those guys, and if we can figure out what it is, we can find and seize it first.
Kiseru: B-but it might be risky… I heard rumors that soldiers…
Kiseru: That some soldiers on the search mission suddenly became soaked in blood all over and died…
Cane: Yes, I heard a similar story… There may be something dangerous in that area…
Cutlery: Yeah… Master, you shouldn’t go to dangerous places like that.
Cutlery: We’re fine no matter what happens to us, but… you can’t be replaced.
Chapter 12: Red Memory
Dreyse: Tabatiere. How are Chassepot’s injuries?
Tabatiere: Master has healed him, so he’s doing alright. He’s resting over there now.
Chassepot: Ugh… it… hurts…! S-stop…
Tabatiere: Seems he’s having nightmares again…
Tabatiere: Hey, Chassepot, are you alright? Wake up.
Chassepot: Haah… a dream…?
Chassepot: Ghh…! You… Dreyse! Because of you… because of you my beloved France is… I am…!
Tabatiere: Hey, calm yourself, Chassepot! You’re frightening our dear Master.
Chassepot: Eh… Master? Ah… Master, my apologies…
Tabatiere: Now look, there’s a watering place over there, so let’s go wash your face.
Chassepot: Don’t touch me! …I can walk on my own.
Dreyse: It happened a long time ago… but again, it has only been a century. It’s only natural that those wounds haven’t healed…
Dreyse: But I, as his comrade…
Chapter 13: Noble Kiss
Hall: Yes, Master. Thanks for the mission.
Hall: …Ah? The wound on your hand has healed a bit, hasn’t it?
Geweer: Hm…? Ah, it’s definitely improving. I thought that’s just how it was, since it never got better.
Geweer: Did you find some good medicine?
Hall: Perhaps… I wonder if my Noble Kiss from the other day worked?
Geweer: Huh!? K-kiss…!?
Hall: Ahaha! It’s not that surprising, is it? I just gave them a little “mwah♥” on the back of their hand!
Hall: You’re surprisingly innocent, aren’t you~? Ahaha!
Geweer: S-shut up! We don’t have customs like that in Japan!
