Already I no longer felt the bulkiness of my clothes, footwear, and air tank, nor the weight of the heavy sphere inside which my head was rattling like an almond in its shell. Once immersed in water, all these objects lost a part of their weight equal to the weight of the liquid they displaced, and thanks to this law of physics discovered by Archimedes, I did just fine. I was no longer an inert mass, and I had, comparatively speaking, great freedom of movement."

I just finished reading The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne and only found out it was a sequel to 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at the very end, and was thinking of picking up a copy of 20klutz to read for the first time, but your art has completely convinced me! I especially like your antique-scuba costume drawing :]

to know that my illustrations can have such a convincing effect on someone means so much to me. i thank you from the bottom of my heart. i also want to notify you that The Mysterious Island is not only the sequel of Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas but a sequel of Verne's another book called In Search of the Castaways (or Captain Grant's Children). all three books belong to the same trilogy. chronologicaly you usually go like this: children -> leagues -> island. but it's not necessary. the plot of the children happens earlier (1864) than the plot of the leagues (1866) and their stories aren't connected but the third book of the trilogy The Mysterious Island connects some details from the both books.

to be honest i haven't read the island yet (but i'm on my way!) so i can't be 100% sure about that one particular book. however i enjoy both Captain Grant's Children and Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas.

the majority may find Verne's writing style too ponderous and all the scientific details too tiresome but it puts me into a state of ecstasy to be honest. i don't understand the half of the words but that's just somehow so enjoyable (the descriptions of marine life especially). his *sometimes too* detailed description help me to illustrate the moments more accurate (antique-scuba costume drawing wouldn't have existed without the exact description of it!)

that was a long rant and i apologise in case it was tiring to read (i hope it wasn't!). thank you one more time and i wish you all the best

My name is Fabrice. I am a trans woman and a refugee living in a camp in Juba, South Sudan, alongside other trans women. Our lives here are extremely difficult. Because of our gender identity, we face constant discrimination, insecurity, and exclusion. Every day is a struggle but we are still here, holding on and trying to survive.

We do not have jobs, and the little assistance we sometimes receive is not enough to meet our most basic needs. Many days we lack adequate food, clean water, medication, and essential items we need as girls. Some of our sisters are currently in the hospital, yet they have nothing to eat and no one to support them.

We are reaching out with humility and hope. Any support you are able to give through our GoFundMe will help us access food, medical care, and basic necessities. Your kindness no matter the amount can make a real difference in our lives and remind us that we are not forgotten.
