I totally agree with you on the mary shooting sherlock but not magnusson complain. The only explanation i could think of was that john would somehow figure out it was mary. or that they'd get caught and the police would think john killed mary (while if she shot sherlock, it's obviously not john's doing). But I think she could have just killed CAM and told sherlock not to tell and run. Then, like in canon, sherlock and john could have also skedaddled. (also, wtf, how are there no cameras in this place?)
however, when it comes to the "too many smart people" i agree with you in theory but want to point out a few things
a) I think it's been made reasonably clear that sherlock is not so much the "smart one" as he is the energetic one (compared to his brother). This is true and canon, and he has been made even more fallible in the bbc series. He is often not quite correct in his deductions. but he does the legwork that mycroft doesn't.
b) mycroft may be smart, but he's much more discreet. even if he knew about mary, he wouldn't have shared unless there was some dire reason for him to. he doesn't care that much about john i think.
c) I was okay with moriarty being smart. cuz he's supposed to be. and irene, because she was sort of smart only in one dimension (clever and sexy and sneaky, not rule the world powerful and boring).
but yeah, adding in magnusson AND mary is getting a bit much.
also, while i thought the twist that there wasn't a real vault was a clever idea, him also having a mind palace is dumb (imo). really, this felt like a repeat of the irene adler plot, but CAM is DUMBER because he has no leverage to keep people from killing him. I don't understand why no one had killed him yet.
oh. and yeah. i want to know what happened to john during those intervening months. they sort of hinted that sherlock thought he was moving back in (with the chair) so maybe he moved back in?
