me while watching ravenous: i canβt really tell if the homoerotic undertones are that prominent, or if iβm just percieving them as such. i wonder if any queer-coding is perhaps the directorial intent and not my own interpretation
1999 robert carlyle interview: yeah so basically my character wants to fuck guy pearce up the ass
Justified ^^
when someone asks me what my favorite romcom of all time is and i wholeheartedly say ravenous (1999)
Happy Pride to whatever the hell was happening at Fort Spencer in the 1800s
ravenous (1999) and the terror (2018). cannibalism as a parallel to homosexuality between (white!) men, and colonialism. very significantly colonialism. colqhoun/"ives" versus E.C./"hickey." colqhoun stripped bare & pretty in front of the fort spencer crew after they rubbed life into his naked limbs versus hickey limping away from his shipmates after they watched him bent over and whipped bloody. that stupid gay little moustache + goatee + bob combo. "ives" stabbing boyd versus "hickey" stabbing gibson. penetration & consumption. consumption as desire and consumption as greed (it's not so different). the american & english empires and their consumption of lands and their native peoples. george and silna's father being killed as sidenotesβ brown bodies never matter in the face of white consumption. the way boyd & "ives" look so very similar and the cast of the terror being so difficult to tell apart (making the native characters stand out all the more); the palpable desire all these white colonizing men have for each other. desire for what is similar to yourself (desire for the animal) (desire for the civilized). colonel hart and hodgeson, two blonde dandyish men who betray their companies, who eat human meat because they were hungry & wanted to live, and even then insist on plates and cutlery. george disparagingly and accurately likening communion to cannibalism to demonstrate the threat of colqhoun versus hodgeson doing the same as a plea for goodsir to forgive his weakness and sin. martha losing private cleaves and silna losing goodsir, the white men who could give them tenderness but never full understanding. silna walking away from the last of the ships' survivors and martha walking away from the remains of fort spencer, both disgusted. colqhoun and boyd dying sticky & entangled & pierced through together versus hickey's mutineer band dying poisoned & crushed & shackled to the same boat. colqhoun being killed by a bear trap, and hickey being killed by a bear.

"Princess" like a prayer, like an incantation to will back into existence how it was with them. "Princess." Whoever they are now, they were lovers, then.
