The 1st Edition of The Hiphop Medical Clinic 2015.

We are excited to announce that the 1st Edition of The HMC 2015 was successful. The HMC is the first of this kind of establishment in Africa that aims to use musicotherapy, classical music, graffiti and visual arts to tackle mental health issues.

This event happened on November 13th 2015 at the Methadone Clinic which is inside Mathari National Teaching & Referral Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya. The Methadone Clinic serves more than 637 patients who are addicted to Cocaine, Heroine and other hard drugs. The patients are put on a drug called Methadone inorder to aid them through the recovery process.

Later on, the medical teams and the social department at the hospital realized that patients were relapsing back to the same conditions due to lack of something meaningful to do when they were discharged back home hence the Hiphop Medical Clinic was born.

During this 1st edition of the HMC 2015 we collaborated with Veteran Graffiti street artist who’s nicknamed Swift Graffiti to conduct a practical training session and a piece called “Hiphop Cures” just to inspire the patients.

We are happy with the results that we got and the positive feedback that we received from the patients, the social department and the doctor.

We are three-quarter way through our Nairobi-Makueni 197KM walk and today we are talking to a young visionary called Mr. Fred Kang'ethe who has just opened up Transformative Youth Watch & Resource Centre at the Outskirts of Makindu. Mr.Kang'ethe's Non-Profit aims to provide youths with resources and tools needed to overcome modern day challenges at this Rural County in the areas of I.T., Health, Civic Education, Arts & Cultural Development and many more. We exchanged contacts and have already outlined how we are going to partner. (at Makindu, Eastern, Kenya)
