joowon wouldn’t say he was unfamiliar with this kind of sugar mouth. he knew some kids who talked like that, back then, when he was trying to fit in in the school environment. he worked hard to be liked, he worked hard to be nice. in result, kids would flock around him with fake admiration. to some extent, it did feel good, joowon wouldn’t lie about it. some relationships faltered but new seeds might grow somewhere, anywhere. and kevin was one of them.
the word best friend would taste less bitter if it was muttered in genuineness. joowon let out a soft sigh to comfort himself, folding arms over his chest. he leaned back against the seat, making himself comfortable as much as possible.
“no, of course it’s not,” joowon replied. he eyed the woman next to kevin and gave her a courtesy smile when their eyes met, but never feel bothered to look at her again. with a little hum, joowon brushed off this awkward feeling of meeting a friend he had not met for a while–or, in other words, people he would like to avoid. maybe it was just in his head. maybe kevin did miss him since joowon was isolated from his social relation because of the dead phone a while ago. “how have you been?” he asked, pulling a cheeky smile. “it seems you’ve been doing great. even showing off your girlfriend in front of me now.”
Every time they met it was always like this. Courteous smiles and friendly words masked the underlying hostile meanings and barely-disguised insults. How long had it been like this? He couldn’t even remember when exactly honest intentions transformed into the mockery it was today. If he’d been an honorable person, he would’ve broken off this friendship a long time ago. But he had never said he was a good person. And meant it. It probably didn’t even matter though. This thing between them was so strained that it could break at any moment. He could practically feel it fracturing and breaking off little by little.
Even so, Joowon’s words left a foul taste in his mouth and he withdrew his arm from around the woman’s shoulders, reaching forward to grab his drink. He knew she didn’t even like him anyway-just wanted a good tip. Resisting the urge to throw it at the smug face across from him, he downed it in one gulp instead. The alcohol left a burning path down his throat and a bitter taste in his mouth.
If he was really honest with himself, it probably all started because he was so unbelievably jealous. That’s right. He hated Joowon and everything he stood for. He hated that Joowon had everything he never had, and everything he never would have. Joowon was accepted and loved by everyone who met him. He was not only good looking, but had one of the purest hearts he had ever come across. It made him want to stain Joowon’s reputation-make people look at Joowon like they looked at him. He wanted to see Joowon angry again, to prove that he wasn’t perfect, that he wasn’t all that he presented himself to be.
Was it borderline obsessive? Probably. Was it even worth it? Not at all. Did he hate himself for the way he felt? Yes. But it was too late now. He had come too far. It wasn’t like he could even stop now, even if he wanted to. He wasn’t even sure if he knew how.
“Not really. You were right when you suspected I had ulterior motives,” Kevin admitted. “I did something I’m not proud of,” He reached inside his jacket pocket to take out a piece of paper, hesitating for a split second before unfolding it and laying it down on the table between them. It was the copy of the massive loan he’d taken out. And at the bottom was Joowon’s name.
“I’m sorry,” he said simply, looking down at the table.

no matter how many versions of this same little tea shop she owned over the years, nyssa would never ever be able to suppress the little jolt of excitement and glee that shot through every inch of her when the door bell chimed, indicating that someone had stepped in. managing the little place on her own, however, meant she was often everywhere BUT the register where she needed to be to greet them. in fact, she was often in the back counting stock or shifting boxes or otherwise keeping herself thoroughly occupied. but that door bell – it was the one thing that caused her to drop everything and sprint from the back room to the front and greet whoever with a cheerful, “welcome!–ah….” surprise. confusion. more surprise. and more confusion. these where the emotions floating around in her head as she took in the sight of the young man who’d never stepped foot into her store before, “uhh–can i–help you find something?” she spoke more formally than she meant to, her limbs tensing up on her a bit as she rocked back and forth from heel to toe, awaiting a response from him.
Kevin Woo stood in front of the shop, double checking the address for what was probably the umpteenth time. Again, the address was right. He bit lightly on his lower lip, debating if he should enter or just come another day instead. It was the first time he’d come here, and he was unexpectedly nervous. He’d met Nyssa a couple of months ago. She’d messaged him on SNS, and he had impulsively replied back. After that, it was easy to say that they had become fast, if unlikely friends, and before long, he found himself looking forward to every conversation. But they had not yet met face to face. Then, a couple weeks ago, she mentioned her tea shop in passing, and invited him to drop by whenever he liked. So, he had.
Even he knew his stalling was somewhat silly, and he finally let out a quick breath before gathering enough courage to pull open the door. The alarm bell chimed, announcing his presence. There was no turning back now. The air was cooler than it was outside, and the clear fragrance of brewing tea wafted towards him. Kevin had just enough time to notice that there was no one behind the counter before he turned to see a figure barreling towards him.
He recognized her right away. Her smile was bright and clear as she called out a “welcome!-ah…,” before her eyes met his, her voice faltering as she halted in place. He was just as startled as she was and hadn’t had the chance to say anything yet before she spoke again, this time her voice more formal. “uhh-can I-help you find something?”
Now that they were suddenly standing in front of each other, it was slightly awkward. “Nyssa, hey,” He smiled cheerfully, giving a small wave. “It’s me, Kevin. I was in the area and remembered your invitation, so I thought I’d drop by,” he said somewhat bashfully. He cleared his throat, running his fingers briefly through his hair. “I hope I didn’t come at a bad time,” he added, glancing around the shop.
his eyes stopped on the soda can on the table served by his company. water condensed on its surface in small granules, as if it had been lied down on the open air for a while before his arrival. joowon pulled it closer toward his side, but restraining himself from taking a sip. he tugged on his dark baseball cap instead, hiding his face from a group of people around their table. he slumped on his seat, too uninterested to stay longer than his actual plan.
“thanks,” he muttered, tilting the drink container. “You’re only this nice to me when you want something, so out with it.”
starter source | open : male x male | you have known joowon for years and you often brag to people that he is–sort of–your best friend. you use your connection with him by borrowing money/using his name for a big sum of money from a loan shark you can’t never return. even though, he’s trying to be kind and understanding, yet you talk bad about him behind his back when you don’t get what you want. you could have been the one who sent those bad rumors about joowon to the media, because you know about his past the best. the toxic friendship might end up with a big fight someday and ruining joowon’s good reputation, but you would take the risk as long as you can leech on his wealth to survive. on a side note, you could have been the only one who witness joowon’s temper he has never shown anyone else. [ mun’s note: I would like to witness joowon breaking down, to be honest ]
“What do you mean?” Kevin sighed, his hand touching his chest as he feigned a deeply hurt look at Joowon’s direction. Internally, he was instantly furious, but he wasn’t known as the smiling angel for nothing, no matter how embarrassing the title was. He had a great poker face, and even his closest companions couldn’t say for sure if they had ever seen him angry. Joowon was similar to him in that way. And they’d gotten along pretty well at first. Kevin had even liked him. But things were different now. He was getting older, and it was getting harder and harder to rely on that fleeting thing called fame. Well, at least when trying to maintain his current lifestyle, that was.
“Is it a crime to want to spend time with my best friend in the entire world?” He leaned back on the sofa, putting his arm around the woman beside him. She leaned into his side and giggled, her hair tickling his neck. She smelled like strawberries. He hated strawberries. He smiled. “I missed you, that’s all.”

Jihoon didn’t really know why he was still in this club, but it was Saturday night and he was still younger, so really why the fuck not? Plus he was supposed to meet a friend here and he did find them, but of course they disappeared and he can’t find them now. By this time he had seen so many people grind on each other (and he did join a couple people through-out the night) and so many people already getting sick in the washroom or fighting outside the washrooms. He wasn’t for all this anymore, it wasn’t fun like before and he was getting tired of all the bullshit so he went to look for a free spot in the corner. Pulling out is phone. 3 percent… fucking perfect. Guess calling or looking for someone to pick him up wasn’t the plan for tonight.
While looking through his contacts and trying to figure out who was able to pick him up, his phone died. A large sigh left him and he rubbed at his face before scanning the place soon spotting someone sitting by themselves, Jihoon walked up to the other that was close. They seemed like they wouldn’t really mind being bothered. He leaned in, tapping them on their shoulder and tried his best to speak loud enough, using gestures to his wrist for better communication “Excuse me, do you have the time?” Funny enough the time that he had with his phone, he didn’t think to check the time. He was guessing around midnight or one in the morning.
Kevin was in one of his disguises again. Today it was a black dress, tights, low strappy heels and a dark wig that went down to his waist. Sipping at a drink, he surreptitiously looked out at the dance floor. It was the second weekend in a row he’d spent in this club, wearing women’s clothing, no less. The first day, he’d wanted to melt into the floor in embarrassment. Surprisingly though, no one had really seemed to notice. It still didn’t stop him from making a beeline to the bar as soon as he’d gotten there. The more he sipped, he found, the less embarrassed he felt.
It was hot. A bead of sweat trickled down his brow. He wiped it away and pulled out his phone, checking if Jimin had texted him yet. She hadn’t. He looked out across the dance floor, filled with a mass of writhing bodies moving either with or out of time with the throbbing music. Much like the music, his head throbbed. Had she forgotten?
It was all because Jimin had roped him into this. She had somehow got in into her head that her boyfriend of three years had been seeing another woman, and instead of confronting him like, you know, a normal person would, she’d come up with this insane plan to somehow catch him in the act. He’d tried to reason with her. Even if her boyfriend had been cheating, he’d have to be a fool to bring her to this particular club, where their group of friends had come so often. So why did he agree to help her? Because it was Jimin, of course. She should have been a lawyer instead of an idol.
He was so immersed in his thoughts that at first he didn’t see the person that walked up to him until he felt the tap on his shoulder. In surprise, he swiveled his gaze to the side just in time to see a man lean toward him, tapping at his wrist. “Excuse me, do you have the time?” Kevin could just make out his voice. The stranger’s face was bathed in the shadows, making him look almost inhuman. Kevin nodded, pulling out his phone again and lighting up the screen to show him the time. 12:59 am
The club lights flashed like lightening as his phone chased away the shadows on the stranger’s face, giving Kevin a jolt as he realized it wasn’t a stranger after all. He froze, his eyes widening. He cursed internally. Of course I would run into someone I know when I’m dressed up like a girl. It was Jihoon. The phone slipped out of his grasp, clattering noiselessly to the ground.
