AYOOOOOOOOO
time to get building a new rig
nothing special, this is just how i use cardboard to make my props
cardboard prop tutorial for those of you who waited until the last second to make a halloween costume (read: me)
i've always wanted to do a big daddy cosplay, but lately i've been thinking songbird might be more fun to do/wear. rosies are pretty much just a barrel with kneepads, and i mean, come on, where the hell am i gonna store that?
pretty much done. wore it to the blackfly ball. wings kept breaking but we had a good time anyway
crapped this out in about five minutes. worbla is amazing
harness is almost done
straps are cut and ready to be sewn
nearly finished
what have we here?
surprisingly i've actually had a pretty productive day
almost done with this piece
this is kind of a big deal for me for two reasons. the first is that these wheels were given to me three years ago, by one of my favorite people at my favorite place in the world, neither of which i'll likely ever see again. i've held on to them for a while now, and now i finally get to use them. the second is that this is a part of grimlock that's been in play since day one. when we first started talking about building him in san diego, the first thing i said was "what about his tail? that's gonna be huge and ridiculous"; my friends suggested i put the back end on wheels and that it could be on ropes so they could control it, like a chinese dragon (obviously i've ditched the latter idea). people have asked me about the tail a lot and i've always /said/ how it's gonna be, and now it's a reality that's three years in the making. /rant anyway, i'm almost done with the tail. it's a little too hot to fiberglass (i've already passed out once; i've shedded my coveralls and am doing it in my underwear a la walter white), but it's getting there. maybe it'll be ready for halloween. :I
presented without comment
behold, grimlock's tail in all it's wiggly action, as promised. that third link has broken twice now, but a few coats of fiberglass should fix it
God damn, I really want that armor.
someday i’ll have that armor
IT. IS. FINISHED. well. the technical stuff, anyway. it can be put together as one big unit and it's the BIGGEST single costume piece i've ever made. it looks even better in motion, and i'll upload a video of that tomorrow. there /is/ still a lot to do, but this is a huge step forward towards completion. the next step will be to finish fiberglassing and install copious amounts of hardware. stay tuned for more exciting adventures in fiberglassing~
