I wasn’t a big time Star Wars fan boy but have really loved the latest two installments with Rey, Rylo Ken, etc. Randy Gallegos had pre-altered this Island, which seemed like just the mentor the Rey of the Veil picked up a couple of weeks ago needed.
Zoltan Boros wasn’t at GP Seattle, but this rogue painted on the back of a Very Cryptic Command (rogue version) came in the mail just before, and I can’t help but show it off. I love the perspective on this, like we’re hiding behind the corner as well.
It is always a pleasure to see Steve and Kat at west coast Grand Prix. They have got Grand Prix line management down to a science, churning through alters and signings while cheerfully interacting with everyone. This time I pre-ordered an alter and went full-on artist’s choice to see what wildness would spring from Steve’s brain meats, and this bookish lil’ guy was the hilarious result.
I’ve got a lot of catching up to do from GP Seattle! Got to meet Magali Villeneuve for the first time, an she’s an absolute delight. Assisting her for the weekend was Manju Elise in an impressive Chandra costume, right down to Chandra’s glowing yellow eyes and smirk.
I’ve been stalking this Rey alter from the Steve Argyle/TCG Player partnership with a mania that would make Supreme Leader Snoke proud, and at last, it is in my clutches. Together, she and I shall rule the galaxy!
Greetings from GP San Jose! As always, ‘twas a pleasure seeing Steve and Kat (and Randy Gallegos, in the neighboring booth). For this Illusory Ambusher alter my only request was it not terrify my kids, and the 10-armed huggy monster was as big of a hit with them as with me. :)
Game Show 21
“FIND THE TRUE MEANING OF CHRISTMAS. WIN MONEY, MONEY, MONEY! (something else entirely) SPECTACULAR! SUPER-COLOSSAL! NEIGHBORHOOD (international) CHRISTMAS (or… you know, whatever winter seasonal holiday you celebrate…) LIGHTS AND DISPLAY STORY-WRITING CONTEST.” - A Charlie Brown Christmas… sorta
Your mission for the final Game Show of 2016… write a holiday-themed, children’s-book-type story of Hermy the Introvert Crabsanta. 200 words or less. You have until December 31, 2016. Winners will be chosen in January.
C’mon… the inspiration is all there!
In the mean time… HAPPY HOLIDAYS MINIONS!
Do we send it to you or tumblr it?
actually, reblogging it inside this post would be easiest to find…
Time is running out…
Hermy was scuttling back to his nice, warm ocean trench for a quiet Christmas with his most beloved company -- his own thoughts. As he rounded the last kelp cluster he walked right into a wooden chest, smashing the cozy, understated shell that had been his mobile sanctuary for a decade. That chest had no business intruding on his perfectly lonely holiday! But there was no time for moping. He scurried up the side of the chest in search of a makeshift shell, but inside was nothing but tinker toys, some marbles…and a soft red hat lined with white fur. It would do. He pulled it over his back and climbed down. A school of fish ambushed him as he touched the sand below, excitedly swimming around and around. “Santa, Santa,” they shouted, “What are you bringing us for Christmas?” Desperate to rid himself of the unwanted company, he scurried back up the wooden chest and brought down all the tinker toys and marbles he could hold. “Merry Christmas, children!” he responded, thrusting the tinker toys toward them. While they figured out how to build with tinker toys with nothing but fins, he made his getaway…

Titus Lunter and Noah Bradley have illustrated some of my very favorite lands, and both were at Grand Prix Washington. My buddy Anthony was kind enough to pick up proofs for me, which actually puts me close to having enough proofs for a playable red-blue-green deck of proofs.
Dig Through Time is a perfect card to me–incredible art, great name, and strong effect. I asked Ryan to illustrate a planeswalker who would cast Dig Through Time, and his pick of Tamiyo was excellent.
This artwork is incredible, and Miles Johnston's non-Magic stuff is stunning but I'm a different style. The sketch is in between the two stylistically.
These don't have illustrations on the back but have embellishments on the front: Adventure Time mimic, and Matt Cavotta correct a misattributed Bash to Bits.
I’ve collected a lot of sweet Steve Argyle stuff but didn’t have an artist proof of his. First time I’ve seen this style from him, and it turned out amazing. The double-signature is especially neat on this one.
Recently stumbled on Anastasia Ovchinnikova’s and Scott Murphy’s Etsy stores through which they sell proofs. Sight beyond Sight and Meteorite.
I love these two pieces--Muzzio by Volkan Baga and Uba Mask by Randy Gallegos.
I’ve fallen behind in posting, including this pair of Aleksi Briclot planeswalker artist proofs. Love this illustration style even though it's distinct from much of Aleksi's published work.
