Make having babies easy. There are a lot of women out there who do genuinely want children, but have too many insecurities about financial stability and finding the right person. There needs to be government programs like free childcare, healthcare and financial incentives for having children to make it an easy choice. Maybe even monthly payments for each child a woman has. Men need to be financially and emotionally stable, supportive and dependable to ensure their partners feel safe and secure when they decide to start having kids. It's really as simple as that. Make having kids easier and more rewarding, and more people will want to.

Education is also important. Teaching students from an early age about parenting, pregnancy and how to take care of a baby will help take away the fear and help people make more responsible decisions when they do have kids. There was an Australian study that found girls who participated in baby simulator programs were more likely to have babies. While I'm not advocating for teenage pregnancy, I do think programs like that are helpful for teaching people about the responsibilities of having a child, taking away the fear of that responsibility and preparing people for the deep joys and emotional bonds of becoming a parent.

I also don't think schools do a job at teaching students the side effects of birth control or how birth control methods work. How can you make an informed decision about your body if you don't know that hormonal birth control can significantly impact your mental and physical quality of life, or that IUDs can get stuck and require surgery to take out, or even puncture the uterus?

We also need to stop demonizing having kids in the media. If we want people to be willing to have families, we need to have positive portrayals of families where having a baby is celebrated. We don't need another female lead where getting knocked up is used for cheap drama. Why can't it be something she genuinely wants and is excited for?
