🌦 « aditi rao hydari. non binary. she/her. 35. » was that 𝚜𝚊𝚢𝚊 𝚔𝚑𝚊𝚗 walking through the doors of amorelux ? i heard they just moved in to apartment #703 from LONG BEACH, CALIFORNIA and work as a painter / private curator. they seem 𝚓𝚘𝚢𝚏𝚞𝚕 & 𝚝𝚑𝚎𝚊𝚝𝚛𝚒𝚌𝚊𝚕 but don’t get on their bad side ! they can be 𝚎𝚡𝚙𝚕𝚘𝚜𝚒𝚟𝚎 & 𝚙𝚊𝚜𝚜𝚒𝚟𝚎-𝚊𝚐𝚐𝚛𝚎𝚜𝚜𝚒𝚟𝚎 which makes sense since they’re a 𝐥𝐞𝐨. you know they’re home when you see a flash of mugs filled with used paintbrushes , an organized yet messy workroom , well-worn paint smocks filled with stories. @amoreluxintro

ꗃ 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐔𝐍𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 : family background.
the khan family is most notable for it's patriarch, khan hammid or simply hank khan: the first lieutenant of a prominent division in the u.s marine force... saya khan's life was never easy. she was bred to compete, she was the sun and everyone else the moon; saya had shoes to fill from the second she was able to walk upright and her father never allowed her to forget it.
moving from one place to another linger in her childhood memories. it wasn't until her mother, sandra's, interference. saya needed a stable and nurturing environment for her to exceed her father's expectations. ever since then, saya has considered new york city to be her home. the mother-daughter duo resided in a swanky upper east side townhome while the khan patriarch traveled for work. despite being separated saya's father made an effort to be in his daughter's life. though hard on her, she was the apple of his eye. saya vividly remembers seeing her father's face in the crowd of her violin recitals, spelling bees, model u.ns, and student debates. her mother ? well. that was complicated.
saya was never sure that her parents loved each other. perhaps at one point in their youth they did but as adults things must've taken a turn. on holidays she hears her mother cry through the walls. her father's anger --- which he rarely ever displayed sent him into drunken comas. things were better when her parents were apart but the love saya had for her father didn't want that to be true. the khan's never divorced but that didn't prevent sandra, saya's mother from fulfilling her desires.
ꗃ 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐔𝐍𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 : childhood.
the mother's side of saya's family comes from the manhattan elite... and not in the new money with skyscraper buildings and multiple properties; but old, old money allowing them to reside in a stratosphere that saya, even with her mother's help, could never reach. though saya could never confirm if her mother cheated, the long stay guests and later the seemingly endless vacations with expensive men said otherwise. it was all speculation until she had brought home a young boy named rohit, who was around four years old into their manhattan townhome. saya was seventeen at the time and her senior year in full swing but her fun had come to a screeching halt because of the introduction of this four year old child.
saya was told that he was her cousin from india and that his family had tragically passed away only a few months prior. feeling complete remorse for rohit, saya assumed the role of big sister, mother even. as her own wasn't interested in raising the child but rather allowing an unloving nanny do the work. saya balanced raising rohit as well as completing her senior year. with her sights set on the future, all looked bright until holiday swung around once again and saya had to witness the seasonal brawls between her parents.
she wasn't supposed to hear it but the whisper was far too loud to go unnoticed. rohit's parents weren't killed in a tragic accident, rohit was sandra's child... saya's half brother. it was utter betrayal and her heart broke witnessing her father in such a state of dismay. but like always, divorce was never an option. feeling emotions boil to the surface, saya yearned from a life away from her family even if it meant leaving her father and rohit behind. she initially had planned to attend school in new york, become a lawyer, and stay local and become something her parents would be proud of. but her path changed and her parents stood behind her --- that was the least they could do.
ꗃ 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐔𝐍𝐋𝐎𝐂𝐊𝐄𝐃 : adulthood.
saya moved to california and attended a state university with the intention of becoming a lawyer. she completed her general education but before she could fully immerse herself into the world of law , she dropped out and decided to pursue her truest passions. art was always a second nature to saya. arguably she was much more adept in various forms of art than standard academics. she didn’t share her career change with her parents , in fact it’d been a few years since she had any contact with them.
saya thrived in the art world in her own , unique way. though she didn’t make big bucks with her first pieces , her name was travelling through the art world without her parents interference. when she sold her first art piece to a wealthy businessman , saya knew her career path wasn’t in vain. she built relationships with her buyers and networked with a few of the most prolific artists on the scene. with her paintings not making much income , she adopted the skill of becoming a private curator for prestigious clients who simply didn’t have the time to adorn their own homes or workspaces with unique art pieces. it’s been treating her well but the absence of her family sharing these triumphs with her weighed heavy on saya’s conscious.
originally , saya entered seattle to attend a friend’s wedding. considering the length of indian weddings are no joke , saya stayed in the city longer than she anticipated. her natural instinct to work during downtimes and grew a liking to the social circles in seattle. they differed greatly from the snobbish personalities in california and saya found herself easily fitting into social circles here instead of there.
