-Sir there’s no way anyone survived! -He could.
“Are you ready?” - “Are you?”
Well, his Khan-descending attitude sure got him a broken arm in the end.

The Enemy [khanthegreat]
Jim’s mind was working hard, the gears spinning a mile a minute. He was going through every possibly scenario, searching for the best outcome, and unable to think of anything. It would be much easier to think of a plan if he could pinpoint the cause of the problem and eliminate all other options. But the problem seemed to be everywhere.
The Captain followed Khan’s example and hurried to the wall where a panel sat, locking the other extinguishers away. Punching in the authorization code, the wall pulled apart to reveal, to Jim’s great disappointment, only one other extinguisher. He snatched it up anyway, moving to work away at more of the flames, looking over his shoulder at Khan as he shouted about the consequences of the fire meeting the core.Â
He couldn’t let that happen. “Noted,” Jim replied, returning to the flames. The higher ceiling allowed for the smoke to rise above them, making his breathing somewhat easier - definitely not easy, but bearable at least for the time being. “I’m fine,” he said, emptying the extinguisher over the blaze. There was only a small amount left when he stopped spraying for a moment to think.Â
They needed more extinguishers - and he knew where to get them, of course he knew that. And though leaving Khan to himself wasn’t something Jim was entirely comfortable with, he was quickly realizing it was the only option. As for the air lock, Jim could see it just ahead of them, all the way across the room. It was small, used mainly for transporting cargo needed for the engineers. But Jim was beginning to understand where Khan was headed, and he pointed to it, saying, “The air lock is there. I’m going to go get more of these.”Â
He handed over his extinguisher quickly, locking eyes with the other man. “Help me save my ship and I might consider us even for the last time you tried to have it destroyed,” Jim told him, his hand still on the extinguisher. “Maybe.” He let go, never breaking eye contact. “Don’t make me regret trusting you.”Â
Khan took this man's message seriously. Whilst he hated the Captain with a burning passion, he didn't want to die in a radioactive explosion. so he set to work. As Kirk left, he started to work on the flames. He could get closer than Kirk but the fire wouldn't quell.Â
Khan moved in, flames licking dangerously close to his face and body. He kept trying... Nothing was working. He had to get to that airlock. "Come on Kirk..." he muttered to himself as he set about trying to get further in. His clothes were drenched with the extinguisher fluid so there was less chance of his clothing catching alight.Â
He tried again - pushing further. He shrieked when he felt the flames licking up his arms. He growled and bit hard on the inside of his lip. He felt the skin on his arms being worn away but he was suppressing the flames and inching closer and closer to the airlock.Â
"KIRK!" Khan bellowed. He could see it. If he got further in, he could touch it... He was close. He needed an extinguisher now. He was running out and the flames were growing. The air was thick with particles and even Khan was struggling now. Kirk couldn't last long here and Khan would only last a few minutes longer. He needed something to latch on to when he popped the airlock. Otherwise it would be him and a ball of fire sucked out of the ship.Â
Khan kept glancing back - searching for Kirk. If he wasn't back by the time his tank was empty, he was going to have to go on without him. He would have to open the airlock alone.Â
“No I heard you, I just don’t understand how.” he sneers. “How you’re awake again after the shit you pulled, how the fuck you’re aboard my ship.” Jim snapped. “I should kill you where you stand on principle alone, I know no one would fault me.” the captain growls. “So why the hell are you here? I want details, cause obviously some one didn’t forward me a memo. I’d speak quickly if I were you.” he grimaces.
Khan knew he had pissed off the captain and it was gold to see him so irritated. "Well, Captain, it seems that I am to work alongside you on this five year mission. Consider me a Governor. I will fill in jobs that need to be done. I will be a chaperon on missions off ship. I am highly trained and much better than you and your crew at everything. So - I am vital to this mission." Khan explained with a cool exterior about him.
Sulu gave him a curt nod, lips pressed together in a tight line. “Indeed. Something I can do for you?” The look of the man standing opposite him gave him an uneasy feeling but the lieutenant held his ground.Â
"I am here to assist you." He announced with a wrinkle of his nose. He was clearly not keen on the idea. He just had to fill in for jobs around the ship. Today, he was to fill in for the ensign who could not attend the bridge due to illness. And it looked like he and Sulu were going to be working side by side.Â
