User Testing (Second Round)
Explain the Persona (Jack) and their expectations, pain points, and task/experience goals.
Jack is 22 year old student at Loughborough uni who lives with 3 friends in a house, off-campus. He’s a finalist studying Visual Communication.
He likes alcohol but doesn’t like going out only to get drunk or to go to nightclubs. Having conversations and getting to know more about friends is more interesting to him
He wants better social places. He think there’s need for nice and trendy bars and pubs in the town centre which are value for money and are targeted at students.
He’d like to have experiences similar to big retail centres which also include food and entertainment in them. (e.g. The corner house in Nottingham, Around Highcross Shopping Centre/john lewis in Leicester, Westfield in London)
Doesn’t mind if businesses are independent or chain.
Wants to experience more cultural and social events in Loughborough. Wants more variety of different experiences to make the town livelier. Also, he wants a better communication for what’s on in the town centre.
By this point Social Quarter is well stablished. So, I’ll be explaining about Social Quarter through branding materials and A3 sheets of renderings of the physical area (sketchup).
A4 paper storyline: I need to say… this is a hypothetical journey, I’ll ask your genuine feelings/opinions at the end of the journey.
Imagine that Love Loughborough has got a new website which provides information about businesses and events in town centre. You want to check what’s on tomorrow evening for a bit of entertainment. You come across an advertisement about Social Quarter’s dedicated app which can tell you about what’s going on, give you offers based on where you are in the Social Quarter when you’re physically there, help you budget your evening, etc. etc. You’re sold …
and you decided to download the app from Google Play.
this is how the app’s structure would look like (roughly).
You need to enter your full name, phone number, and a password to create an account.
You can define your interests so that what is suggested to you is based on your interests. Let’s say you like Live Band and Fruity Cocktails.
On the homepage explain the options…. You can browse what’s on in the social quarter today or tomorrow, this weekend, or later on.
Another option is that you can securely add your debit/credit card to the app add credit to your app and budget your evening that way and using that credit to make contactless payments seamlessly through your phone using a technology called Beacon which is based on Low Energy Bluetooth.
Also, if you visit the social quarter and interact with the area and spend time there you get points.
On top of that, if you’re bored, you can start a challenge in which you can select the level of difficulty. It all happens in Social Quarter and involves doing activities and finding hidden signs. When you finish a challenge, you’ll earn some points as well.
The other section activates only when you are physically in the Social Quarter.
TASK: Imagine you want to find something entertaining for tomorrow evening to go to with your housemates but you don’t want to book it just yet. You’re only interested to get some info about it.
User testing: Time it, note number of requests for help, % of completion,
You’ve decided to go for a dance performance called Swan Lake but you wanna buy the tickets when you get to the town hall. You can pay for things in the Social Quarter using your phone and the social quarter app so you decide to budget your evening now.
TASK: Add 23 pounds 50 to your ewallet in your app to spend tomorrow.
User testing: Time it, note number of requests for help, % of completion,
Tomorrow comes and at 5:45 pm you leave the house with your housemates to be at the town hall before 6 when the show starts.
You notice the flag of the Social Quarter and turn on your Bluetooth which is a Low Energy one.
Also the statue which marks the beginning of the area.
You receive a notification on your phone which welcomes you to the area.
You head to the Town Hall to watch and enjoy Swan Lake. After an hour and 15 minutes, the show is over. After the end, you receive a notification again on your phone.
The offer sounds good and you actually like to do something after watching the show. You’re sold to go to orange tree with housemates.
You go inside. It’s a joint event between Orange Tree and Caffé Nero. Hot beverages are provided by Caffé Nero.
You check your app and notice the app has realised you’re in Orange Tree thanks to Beacon technology.
You want to order a drink and you pay for it through your mobile phone without leaving your friends.
TASK: Thanks to you phone and a technology installed in Orange Tree you can order and pay all from your phone. You want to order Jellybeanitini and pay for it through your phone.
User testing: Time it, note number of requests for help, % of completion,
After 5 mins you go to get the drink from the bar.
You have a great evening with friends.
Do you think this experience would make Jack happy?
What are the best and worst parts of this experience in your opinion?
Would you be motivated enough to go to Orange Tree the same as Jack?
Would you say this experience is better than what you can currently get from the town centre for social interactions?
On scale of 1-10; how interested are you in the proposed idea? 1: I don’t mind it , 10: I definitely want it.
Which part of the proposed idea provided value for you?
How useful do you find the app?
