What movie is this again?
“Nothing much honestly, just getting settled in to the neighbor hood.. I met a few people” Rosemary shrugged. “And you?” she smiled turning to her.
“Oh yeah? Who did you meet? Everybody’s so nice, right?” she asked drinking some soda. “Not much. Just working all the fifteen hour shifts I can get my hands on at the hospital. I mean I don’t really have anything better to do you know? I think I should just give up the house and live there.” she laughed.
The fuck smells so awful in here?
Well, you’re standing next to the medical waste can so that’s not too
shocking.

“Yes, it’s about how these kids from the same high school but different social clubs meet for detention, then while in detention they start realizing how they all have a hard life”
Kherri nodded as Rosemary described the movie to her and watched for awhile. “We haven’t hung out in a while. What’s going on with you, Miss Lady?” she asked with a smile.
What movie is this again?
“Yes, this is possibly the best movie ever.” Rosemary nodded, “I cry every single time” she chuckled.
“Really?” Kherri asked eating some chips and drinking some soda. “So what’s the synopsis? I know they’re all in high school right?” she asked.

“oh, snacks! I love snacks” Rose giggled, “It’s ‘the breakfast club’ greatest movie ever”
“As do I, girl! As do I!” Kherri laughed handing her the popcorn bowl. “Oh yeah! This is like an eighties movie right? I think my mom was obsessed with this movie when she was a teenager. I never watched it though.”

I forgot while I went to the kitchen to get snacks.
“With all the caffeine I ingest during my work hours, I’m surprised my body doesn’t just run on autopilot by now. How is sleep even a necessity anymore? Quick, someone with science skills explain this mystery.”
“Well, your body still has to re-energize and repair the damage that it’s experienced during the day so that’s why sleep still happens. Also, your heart and brain still need a rest as well. I am a little worried about the amount of caffeine you’re ingesting however. I’m a nurse by the way so that’s why I know about this stuff.”

Realizing that she caught on to him looking around, he immediately turned his gaze upon and he smiled, “Nope. It’s fine. Sorry.” He said, waving his hand, “Force of habit. I usually come into peoples homes looking for evidence so I’m always looking around.” Casey rubbed his hands together and bowed his head a bit, embarrassed. From his years of being on the force, he had a lot of habits that he needed to work on. In the past, though, he never really had anyone around to tell him that they were weird.
Casey was hoping that Kherri would tell him the truth since he had just caught her in her own lie of being okay. But she wouldn’t. He sighed softly and nodded as she spoke. It was no surprise to him that she would blame her work Everyone always would. “Right, right.” He finally said, frowning a bit, “But you’re my friend, Kherri. One of my few. I’m going to worry.” It was just in his DNA.
Hearing her offer him something again, Casey shrugged his shoulders, “I guess a water would be good. Thanks.” He said. Might as well get something. At least then it would help stall her and he could think about how to get the truth out of her. The weirdest thing, to him, was why she wouldn’t tell him. If she was in trouble or something happened, he could help. He wanted to help. That was his job and he was damn good at it. People just didn’t know it, it seemed like.
It struck her when he said that she was one of his few friends. Being friends with someone meant a lot to Kherri. She knew how deep friendships could be and she didn’t really want mess up her friendship with Casey. She knew not a lot of people understood him, but she did and that’s what made him her friend. She looked down as he said that he was going to worry because she was his friend and sighed. “I can take care of myself. If someone’s coming after me, I’ll just knee him in the balls.” she shrugged laughing a little.
“A water coming right up.” she smiled as she got up and went into her kitchen to get them both water. She was strangely happy that she got to leave the room for a bit and get herself together. She had to pull this off. It could change everything that Casey had said about her. Everything that he even thought about her. She just didn’t want to risk that.
Kherri re-emerged with two glasses of water. She gave him one before sitting down and taking a long sip from her own. “So how have things been going down at the station? Still as boring as ever?” she giggled a little. Getting the attention off of her for awhile would be a good thing.
Yeah, I am too. [smiles] I’m not afraid of her, she can yell all she wants but she wouldn’t scare me. Sometimes siblings are like that and even when they raised by same parents in the same way, they turn out differently. I’m glad you have your brother though, at least one good relationship came out of your situation. [smiles] Yeah, we use shorter versions of our names too, it’s easier but the ones my older brother uses against me aren’t nice. In fact, they frustrate me. I can’t say for sure but they never talked about having another. Either way, I’d support them and be excited about it.
[Laughs] Alright, I believe that you’re not scared of her, but maybe she should be scared of you. [Nods] I totally understand what you’re saying though. Just seeing the difference between her and my brother makes it quite evident. I’m so thankful for my brother though. He’s literally the best person in the world. He’s my best friend [smiles]. [Laughs] Yeah, that makes sense. Dec sometimes calls me annoying nicknames too, but then I do something funny like dump a bucket of ice water on him or something. We like to play pranks on each other from time to time. [Nods] That’s good. I would support my parents too. Though they’re situation is different. After my brother was born, they told my mom she couldn’t have any other children so that’s why she adopted me [smiles].

“I think it’s more that I could never forget that hospital stench you wear all the time.” He said and winked with a smile. Casey didn’t even think that hospital’s had a smell…except bleach. And really, there were worse things to smell like in the world so if she did have that smell to her, she should be happy. At least people associated bleach with cleanliness.
Following her into the living room, he listened to her words and smiled slightly with a nod, “Good to know.” Sitting down opposite of her, Casey unfoled his arms as his eyes began to scan the area again. It was a new room which meant that there were new things to look at. Hearing her question, he waved his hands and placed his eyes upon her, “No, no. I’m fine. Thanks though.” Regardless of whether or not he was, he didn’t want to be a nuisance.
As Kherri spoke, he took note of her movements and lightly bit on his lower lip. Just by looking at her, he could tell that there were a million things running through her head and he wanted to know what they were. He couldn’t just come right out and ask, but dammit, he wished that he could. “Of course, right.” Casey said with a nod, “And I’d be glad that you’re taking my advice that that was the truth…” He told her, “But that’s not it, is it?” He wasn’t sure if his perception was a good or bad thing when it came to friendships but it wasn’t like it was something he could just turn off, unfortunately.
Kherri grinned. “Of course, it’s always the hospital smell giving me away.” she smiled. She took a few more breaths as she listened to him. This was hard. Casey was her friend, but she couldn’t just let everything out. She had only known him for a few weeks. She couldn’t lay all her secrets on him. He was a good guy.
He kept looking around and Kherri was becoming more curious. “Is my interior design too ugly for you?” she asked with a smile. Him looking around was making her a bit nervous. Had he seen something she didn’t see before? Had the mysterious person done something she didn’t catch because she didn’t want to leave her bed? She wasn’t really sure, but she became a bit more worried and let her own brown eyes scan the area. Everything looked alright and like it was in place. “You sure? I could whip something up very quickly. I enjoy cooking for my friends.”
Her smile started on her lips as he seemed to believe her story. She had been successful. It had been awhile since she had to fake how she was feeling and she wasn’t sure if she was still any good at it. She was about to smile in spite of herself, when Casey’s words made her smile drop. He didn’t believe she was okay. She opened her mouth to say something, but simply shook her head. “I’m...I’m okay, Casey. You don’t need to worry about me. I’m just..tired. Work is getting stressful and I had to take a break you know? Things are...alright.” she said avoiding his gaze a bit. “I’m going to get some water. You sure you don’t want anything? Scotch? Bourbon? Pick your poison.”

After a minute or so of waiting, Casey couldn’t help but ask himself why he was still there. He supposed it was because he was just worried. Whenever he didn’t see someone walking around town for a bit, it concerned him. He was sure that she was okay but it would still put his mind at ease to know for sure. He wasn’t going to waste his time waiting around though. That would just be weird.
Right as the detective turned to leave, he heard the door opening and was soon greeted with the smiling face of Kherri. Right off the bat, he knew that something was up. It wasn’t the normal smile that Kherri had. This one seemed forced. His eyes narrowed in the slightest before he settled them and smiled softly back at her, “I tried to forget it but it just wouldn’t leave.” Casey joked, stepping inside her home.
Immediately, his blue eyes began to shift and look around the area, taking it all in. It was another habit of his. For some reason, he always began to look for evidence even when there was no reason for him to do so. After a moment, his eyes fell back upon her and he folded his arms across his broad chest, “Sorry to come over here like this.” He said, truly feeling bad about it, “I hope I didn’t interrupt anything.”
Casey kept his arms across his chest as he spoke again, “I haven’t seen you around lately.” He decided to begin with, “I was just making sure everything is okay.” Casey smiled again, “It’s in my job requirements.” Although, really, he was just doing it because he was worried. She was his friend, one of his few, and he didn’t take that lightly. Once you’ve earned his trust and companionship, it was hard to get rid of him. That was one of his biggest flaws, in his opinion.
Kherri closed the door after he walked in and watched him enter her home. Instead of feeling on edge, she felt strangely comfortable. More comfortable than she had been in the past few days. “Not enough alcohol in the world to forget me or my house, huh?” she smiled wrapping her baggy sweater around her more. She was wearing a tank top and yoga pants. It was really cold in her house, but she just felt the need to wrap her arms around herself.
“No, Casey. You don’t have to apologize. You can come over whenever you like. Have a seat and stay awhile.” Kherri said giving a grin and sitting on her couch. She folded her legs under herself and ran a hand through her hair. “I’m sorry. I should’ve offered you something. Would you like something to eat or drink?” She took a deep breath trying to calm herself and look as normal as possible. She didn’t think she was as good at it as she used to be.
Her heart dropped a little as he said he hadn’t seen her around. She bit her lip and looked down trying to avoid his gaze. Calm. She had to look cool, calm, and collected. “I just um...I just had some days off and wanted to sleep.” she nodded. “Just relax. You know how you always get on me for never relaxing.”

There weren’t very many people that Casey would consider to be a friend around town. He had acquaintances but a friend? That seemed so foreign to him. But there was one girl that he would slip into that small category and that was Kherri O'Hara. She was a good egg. For being so young, she had a good head on her shoulders and knew what she was doing in life. Casey respected that.
The only problem was that he hadn’t seen her in a little while. Usually, he would see the same people over and over in town but he hadn’t come across Kherri like that. There was a very good possibility that he had just missed her walking around and was thinking way too much into it but that was just Casey. He always thought about things more than he had to. It was his job, after all. He wished that he could just turn that part of him off but he had been doing it for so long that it was just customary now.
After getting off work, the dirty blond decided to swing by the girls home and see how she was doing. Could he have called? Sure. But he didn’t really like talking on the phone. It felt too impersonal to him. It was funny that was coming from the least personanable person in town but it was true. Phones were okay when in a bind or too far away to swing by, but why do it when you could?
Casey remembered where Kherri lived after dropping her off one night after the bar and let out a light sigh when he arrived. Walking up to someone’s front door was also a bit awkward but Casey was able to get over that. In New York, half of his day was spent banging on peoples doors. Waltzing up to the woman’s door, the detective lifted his hand and knocked on the door a few times with a small melody and dropped his hand, waiting for an answer. If she was even home.
Kherri stared out the window of her bedroom. She was completely wrapped in her covers in her bed which she hadn’t left in a few days. She didn’t want people to see her this way. She was always smiling and bubbly for the most part and to be anything but that would be weird for others to deal with.
It had started a few nights ago. She had come home from a shift from work. After getting inside and getting a glass of water, she saw a car drive slowly by her house. No one got out and the lights were low. She hadn’t thought anything of it. Maybe it was someone new in town that had lost their way. Maybe it was someone not even looking at her house. She dismissed it and went to bed.
The next night was different, she heard rustling in the bushes and saw someone peeking around backyard. She couldn’t tell who it was, but they were definitely hanging around her house. She wasn’t sure if they were trying to get her attention or stalk her. The Gates had cameras everywhere so she doubted that they were trying to break in. Besides, everyone lived in pretty much the same kind of house. Why would they want to steal from a hospital nurse? That night the nightmares started and she couldn’t bring herself to come out of it. She took off of work for the next few days to get her life together. Things were starting to unravel and she had to catch them before they broke her.
The knock at the door cause her to jump. She bit her lip wondering if she should go down and answer it or not. The sun hadn’t fully set yet, so she figured it was safe. Climbing out of her bed, Kherri brushed her hair so that it wasn’t all over her head and washed her face quickly. She walked down her stairs and peeked through the hole to see Casey’s face on the other side. Leaning her head on the door, she let out a sigh of relief. She set her smile and opened the door. “Hey Stranger. I thought you would’ve forgotten where I lived by now.” she smiled stepping aside so he could come inside.
It was actually two men so I had no chance against them. It’s fine now, they’re waiting for the trial I think so they should be locked in for a while, my family took care of it. [smiles] Yeah, but they are so precious, we all just wanna protect them. I will, let me know who she is and I’ll go straight to her and tell her what she’s missing out on. [smiles] Chris is still holding onto nicknames he gave me a while ago, he lives to torture me, I swear. But then again, he doesn’t let anyone hurt me. Yeah, it used to be harder because Chris and I learned to be together all the time and now we had another person there so Luke felt left out a little. But we try our best to include him in more and more stuff as he gets older.
[Frowns] I’m so sorry. Well, I’m glad they’ll be prosecuted and put where they belong. Yeah, we do. They’re the future you know? [Laughs] She’ll probably be rude as hell to you and I’d have to yell at her. She’s not the nicest person in the world to people which I totally don’t understand because our family is freaking amazing and the nicest people in the world. My brother is always saying that he can’t believe they grew up in the same family. Aww, that’s sweet. We all have nicknames in my family. My mom’s, Laur, Dad’s Aid, my sister’s Nola, my brother is Dec and I’m Kherri. My mom insisted on having names that could be turned into nicknames. It’s kind of our thing [smiles]. Awww, that’s sweet. You sure your parents won’t have anymore?
Yeah, for a while I wasn’t comfortable being alone especially out on the streets so I’d always have someone with me. My brother gladly took that part because he blamed himself although it was no one’s fault. [smiles weakly] I do believe it, I mean kids get scared when they bring a pet to my dad’s animal clinic so I get the fear from the real hospital. [nods] Oh, that sucks but in my opinion she should be happy to have a sister like you. Me too, I annoyed him all the time but now he does the same to me. My mom says were worse then our little brother and I can’t say anything because we really are. He’s 11 so there’s a 10 year gap between us and even bigger between him and our older brother.
[Nods] I mean that’s understandable of course. I’m not so sure I would be comfortable myself roaming the streets on my own after something like that. Of course, it’s no one’s fault except that asshole person that robbed you. Oh yeah, those poor little darlings are so scared and the doctors never know how to calm them down. I always love playing with them and telling jokes and stuff. It’s literally the highlight of my day. [Smiles] Thanks. If she ever comes to visit, be sure to tell her that too. Oh, if Dec was here, he would be all over me like white on rice. Teasing me and annoying me as well as having fun. We used to play tag football in the backyard so I know that would be happening in my backyard every Sunday whether it’s football season or not [smiles]. Oh wow, that is a pretty big gap. Do you guys still relate well to each other?
Yeah! We should start a club, or something, where we eat mashed potatoes and look at pictures of Ireland. My family is from the North! Oh, I know the feeling. There’s something so captivating about all of the pictures.
We totally should! Mashed potatoes and cornbeef and cabbage all day every day [laughs]. Oh wow. My family’s from Galway. Definitely! And I love the accents. I used to sit and listen to my grandparents talk back and forth all the time. It’s hypnotizing [giggles].
@KherriBerri: So this is my mom, Laura O’Hara! She’s one of the strongest, determined, stubborn, and loving people I’ve met in my life. If it wasn’t for her and her unwillingness to settle, I would never have been able to be a part of the most wonderful family in the world. I love you, Mama <3
Definitely, people think that I should be hating technology because I’m someone who works in a book store but technology is a good thing. I’m taking it that it is a bad thing that I’ve never been? (smiles) Well, we should head towards the coffee shop. I can take us in my car if you want.
Yeah, because the whole ebook thing is taking over. I wonder if the owner of the book store could get in on that somehow. That could get you guys some more customers maybe. It’s a horrible thing, but we’re about to change that [laughs]. Yeah, let’s go there. Sure, thanks for driving. Where’s your car?
