Check out our new Trans Health Advocacy program! We are currently training volunteers and accepting calls.
We must recognize police do not make transgender people safer. This is particularly true for trans people of color and others facing intersectional marginalization. We cannot forget police have historically targeted transgender people in uprisings such as The Stonewall, Compton’s Cafeteria, Cooper’s Doughnut, and Black Cat Tavern Riots. Police now profile trans people (particularly trans women of color) for walking while trans, carrying condoms, or having documents that do not “match” their appearance. Visit our police page for more information and resources.

The majority of people who have abortions are people of color. We live at the intersections of oppression which impacts our abortion experiences. It’s time we talk about those intersections. It’s time we testify. Learn more about the @National Network of Abortion Funds‘ new program @WeTestifyAbortion at WeTestify.org.
KSN's average pledge is $50. In fiscal year 2015, the average cost of a KSN client’s procedure was $1,072. Could you afford that out of pocket? Donate here: bowlathon.nnaf.org/KSN #bowl16
Today’s postcard, from Hazel: My uterus. I control it not you. No Shame.
Yesterday, the WHO declared Zika a global emergency—but, despite the fact that it's linked to serious birth defects in babies, women in affected areas still can't get safe abortions.
“This bizarre paradox—in which women are cautioned to avoid getting pregnant but denied the option of ending an unplanned, unwanted, potentially dangerous pregnancy—leaves women with tragically limited options. In many of these countries, a woman infected with Zika who becomes pregnant can do one of two things: She can either face a significantly increased chance of giving birth to a child with a serious birth defect, or she can resort to an unsafe and illegal method of terminating her pregnancy. In Brazil, before the Zika outbreak began, between 800,000 and one million women obtained illegal abortions per year. That number will likely increase in the wake of Zika’s spread”.
Black History Month -- Support Black YouTube Creators.
It is well-documented that Black people face bias on a consistent level in all fields. YouTube is no different. And a lot of this has to do with YouTube FANS succumbing to their own subconscious biases and only subscribing to people who look like them.
Tumblr has a strong Black community that is supportive of #BlackExcellence, #BlackGirlMagic, #BlackLivesMatter, #BlackoutDay etc., and it is free and takes just SECONDS to subscribe to a YouTube channel. You want to support Black businesses? Support Black YouTubers. That shit is a job. It takes hours/days to edit and promote a 3 minute video. There are tons of great channels of all races and ethnicities and genders and sexuality, but if we can have a moment of honesty, mediocre white channels still can experience explosive growth where that is simply not possible for Black channels–until now.
I’m imploring you (regardless of race) to SHARE this post and SUBSCRIBE to every channel therein. You don’t necessarily have to like or watch any of their videos, but you probably will and that’s great! But know that BRAND DEALS (read: THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS) go to creators with high subscriber counts, and we as a group have been disadvantaged since the beginning of the platform.
You lose NOTHING by subscribing to the channels here, but you will be making it possible for hundreds of talented (or at least relatively driven) Black creators to be seen by brands that are only looking at numbers. Help even the playing field!
THE ASK
I’m going to list some Black YouTube channels.
REBLOG THIS AND ADD HOWEVER MANY BLACK CHANNELS YOU CAN THINK OF
–avoiding repetition if possible. If you can’t think of any, LIKE THIS POST, AND SPEND 10 MINUTES SUBSCRIBING TO THEIR CHANNELS. We aren’t powerless. We never have been. Sometimes it just takes deliberate action to make things fair.

The Hyde Amendment keeps low-income people from using public insurance to pay for abortion procedures. Until this discriminatory policy ends, abortion funds like Kentucky Support Network will help people pay for abortion: bowlathon.nnaf.org/KSN #bowl16
There are two public health issues that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention was evidently trying to address: the dangers of fetal alcohol spectrum disorders and the high number of unplanned pregnancies in this country. By not keeping them separate, the agency effectively reduced all women to nothing more than fetus-vessels-in-waiting.
“Tell women who are or are planning to get pregnant that the best medical advice of the day is not to drink any alcohol. But don’t treat all women like pregnancies waiting to happen, don’t assume that everyone is going to get pregnant someday, don’t assume that everyone who does get pregnant will carry the fetus to term, and don’t tell them that they simply can’t drink during their fertile years.” by Martha Kempner at RH Reality Check
Loretta Lynch explains why the Dept. of Justice is suing Ferguson
After a 2014 federal investigation into systemic abuses, the city and the Department of Justice came to a settlement on agreement. But on Wednesday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced that the Justice Department is suing the city due to a recent city council vote.
