The Perfect Blouse

Starfire had seen the most gorgeous pink blouse displayed in a shop window the other day, and knew she had to come back for it. Today she was returning with the funds to purchase the item, thanks to the generous allowance that Robin had set up for each of the Titans.
(It was a good thing that the Titans were never lacking in cash, because Starfire still didn’t quite understand how much Earth money was worth. On her planet, there wasn’t much of a need for currency due to their values of sharing resources, and instead the Tamaraneans had a barter-based system when needed.)
Now the Tamaranean happily glided into the store to retrieve the shimmery piece of clothing. To Starfire’s relief, there was just one item left on the rack- and it looked like it was in her size. ‘Glorious!’, she thought as she reached for it.
To say that Kitten always got what she wanted would be an incredible understatement. Between her father and Fang, anything she could ever hope to own, she would be gifted. Now, whether those gifts were actually bought versus stolen, she couldn’t speak to. Not that she cared either way. Diamonds were diamonds, no matter where they came from.
The blonde teen had spotted the top when she had been shopping just a few days prior, right before things with Fang had fallen apart. Even then they had been fighting, and she had been so distraught that she hadn’t even been able to it on despite how cute it was. So here she was again, ready to claim her prize. Daddy had just given her a fresh stack of cash all for her spending pleasure.
Just her luck, there was one left hanging on the rack. Even the one that had been in the window was now gone, so this could be the last one in the store. Kitten wasn’t taking any chances. It was too cute for her not to have. She made a beeline for the blouse, gripping the item in question only to find she had competition. And who did she see when she looked up? Of course. Her.
“Not you again!”
Starfire was jolted from her happy daze as she felt a tug on the fabric. On the other end was a familiar face: Kitten. The Titans had faced the girl many times prior, and their relationship had gradually changed from clear superheroes versus villainness to something more muddied.
They had intervened with Kitten’s familial issues the time that she had gone around as various villains’ daughters, and they had saved Killer Moth another time when Raven’s personified emotions had gone amuck. Kitten and her father generally seemed to be more on the down-low these days, but it seemed that the girl sometimes still dabbled with evil-doing. Which made the relationship complicated.
And while Starfire had shifted her emotions of jealously and dislike over the years to more of pitying and understanding the girl’s actions, she still wasn’t particularly fond of her. To the Tamaranean, it wasn’t fair that Kitten would try to take the blouse that she had been so looking forward to buying. It felt like a personal attack.
“Kitten, I had arrived here first and I intend to make this purchase, please!”

Holiday Preparations
azarathsprotected:
When Starfire asked Raven to bake with her, she had reluctantly agreed. Okay, let’s be honest, she was coerced. It was no small effort on Starfire’s part to get Raven to begrudgingly agree, but then, most things were like that - she was reluctant to participate initially, but ended up enjoying the activity when she was in the middle of it. That, and, of course, Raven quickly realized what would happen if she allowed Starfire to continue unsupervised - or God forbid, if Starfire got Beast Boy or Cyborg involved. Or Robin, honestly - Raven wasn’t sure he knew how to cook anything that required oven operation.
Plus, loathe as Raven was to admit it, the holiday season did inspire a quiet, warm feeling in her chest. There was something charming about it, a time for reflection and appreciation of your loved ones. Certainly something Raven could get behind, in her own way.
Still, here she was, face to face with - she’s pretty sure Starfire called it a Gl-something, but the syllables were a lot for her to take in when she had to create a dark energy shield around her face to keep from gagging at the smell of whatever the hell that creature on the counter was. Where did Starfire even get these so-called delicacies? It wasn’t like Tamaran had a grocery delivery service.
“…since when do you put that in chocolate chip cookies?”
Starfire was blissfully ignorant to her friend’s distaste for the creature that was to be an ingredient, as well as her reluctance to the activity as a whole. Getting Raven to come out of her room was a feat that Starfire sometimes took on as a personal challenge, and today she had won. Being such a social being, the alien didn’t always understand when people needed their space. If two people were companions, shouldn’t they want to spend as much time together as possible?
The Glowl was rapidly defrosting now that it was exposed to room temperatures; the tips of its tentacles beginning to twitch. They were going to have to quickly complete the recipe before the animal tried to escape. Starfire fondly remembered the times she wrestled the Glowl with her k’norfka as a small girl, when he would teach her and Blackfire how to cook these traditional dishes. Of course, they would hunt the animal first before preparing anything.
“We can do the baking of the chipped chocolate cookies, but first we must begin boiling the Glowl for the sweet-tasting rloinad. It can get quite, how do you say, ‘fiesty’”. Starfire realized that Raven might not have any idea what the dish was. “The rloinad is a dessert from my planet that has an outer layer that crunches, and an interior of the ‘squishy’... Similar to the pies that are eaten on this planet.”
