katara ! 🌊
every time I think about how katara and toph are parellels in how they express emotion I become very tender. katara seems sweet and harmless on the outside, but her greatest strength is her capacity for anger and her conviction, and similarly toph appears harsh and unreflective, but can be immensely vulnerable, as with her conversation with sokka in the Runaway. both of them break ideas of what a female character should be by the nature of their complexity, they are alternatively angry or soft, or even neither, and they complement each other so perfectly.
Imagine if Toph had battled Azula in Ba Sing Se’s crystal catacombs instead of Katara
as she should’ve because it was… her season, and she’d already been left out of the library, the circus (can you even imagine), and the drill.
Azula is literally a god killer and Yue became a god and calmed the insatiable wrath of another. They both were devoted to their people ultimately to their own isolation and downfall. Clearly both once in millennium spirits. Azula was so on top on of her duties to her nation, that she undoubtedly knew of the princess of the Northern Water Tribe even before Yue ascended, so fanfic doesn’t need any setup but Azula finding herself after her own fall from grace to intro Yue.
Zutara? Cancelled.
Yula? FOREVER.
Do you like enemies to lovers because it’s hot or do you like enemies to lovers because you think of yourself as unlovable & unworthy of love and therefore like the idea of someone seeing all the worst in you right away and still falling in love with you anyways
For the characters asks! Putting some here at once

People who try to tell me things are ‘not that deep’ fundamentally misunderstand me, I am not a fish desperately in search of the ocean, I am a magpie that roves the canons, searching for shiny things to put in my nest. Whether or not it actually is given deep narrative weight by canon itself is of secondary importance to the fact that it has the potential to be interesting, and thus, I covet it.
“It’s not that deep”
Maybe not originally, but the ground is soft and I’m ready to dig.
“The ground is soft and I’m ready to dig” is the best description of the fanfic attitude I’ve ever seen.
@shitpostsampler
The ground is soft and I’m arguably the greatest earthbender in the world:
Season 1 Legend of Korra implied that the Kyoshi Warriors became Equalists
Asami Sato should’ve been the grandchild of the Cabbage Man and an equalist sympathizer
Korra is the strongest avatar, as she was able to bend multiple elements (air and water) without Raava
After botching the systemic oppression conversation in season 1, the God/Devil battle of season 2 followed by the ascendance of many non-benders to airbenders implied that nonbenders were in purgatory (read: eternally oppressed)
Cop Toph was a mistake, and everyone but Bryke knew that
Yue should be capable of reincarnation, as should Unalaaq
I will literally fight Eugene Luen Yang on sight for what he did to the comics REPEATEDLY
“Too old to fly anymore?”
It was supposed to be a LOK-focused project but Aang happened because he’s my favorite.
Mai: do you believe in ghosts?
Ty Lee: I do. But more importantly, I think they need to believe in themselves

Based on that the glass castle phrase.
And some thoughts of mine around a campfire on the beach at 3 in the morning.
I just have a lot of feelings about zuko.
