people targeting shein instead of any american or european fast fashion brand for fast fashion makes it so obvious that they don't actually care about fast fashion they just hate china.
they'll buy from h&m, zara, aritza, hot topic, spencers, walmart, etc, and then say that people who buy from shein are evil. they'll give exceptions for thrifing though, with their meaning of thrifting being resellers on vinted or at goodwill making a profit off reselling cheap clothes at prices too high for poor people to properly afford. thrifting a shein shirt to cut up and use for a shitty bracelet you'll wear once is better in their mind than buying a shein shirt and just wearing it for 5 years

realising that being told 'you should be a lawyer' as a girl wasn't a compliment but a dig at me for being loud mouthed & opinionated
"wahh i only like enemies to lovers if it's gay bc i don't want men to be mean to women" what about a woman doing heinous shit to a man and that man (who also sucks) being pathetically psychosexually obsessed with her. you people have no fucking vision. if you were willing to read & write women doing actual wrongs this wouldn't be a problem. let that female character commit atrocities with the sole goal of ruining one guy's life while they have weird sexual tension about it

PURSUIT OF JADE 逐玉 (2026)│Ep. 36
The most stupidest defense of Xiran as not being sinophobic is the claim that well they dont hate the chinese people, they just hate the government.
Frankly speaking, most people dont see a difference between chinese people and the chinese government. They hide their hatred and dehumanization of the chinese people behind just being critical of the government.
Ive experienced this multiple times. I identify as chinese on steam, i have my country set to my place of birth and my username is in chinese. I dont have any indication in any video games i play that i am pro prc or a communist.
I have had multiple times where users in my games would just start immediately making jokes agout gulags and shit to me.
Ive been to discord servers where users say to my fucking face that they should activily filter out chinese people by mentioning the hong kong protests or Tiananmen square.
Once again i do not have any indication that i am pro prc or a communist in my discord profile.
Just being visibly chinese is enough for many of these people to treat me as an "other" that needs to be gotten rid of.
Xiran by virtue of spreading lies about china and the chinese government adds fuel to the fire, regardless of their thoughts on chinese people.
They're activily feeding into the already existing hatred of chinese people by giving validity to the lies made up by the us government and this does extend to the chinese people because most people dont see a difference between being chinese and being communist.
I hold xiran to a higher standard than just a random sinophobic chinese tumblr user because they position themself as an expert on china. They posistion themself as the authority on what china is like. They are by all means a minor celebrity now and has reach and chose to use their reach to spread lies about my country.
They are responsible for the spreading of sinophobic ideas.
Maybe its just bexause i am from a city in china with a high hui muslim population, but i find Xirans insistence that hui people sre systematically oppressed in china to be very insulting.
I just do not get how someone who actually knows chinese and has way more access to chinese sources can go around and make such bullshit claims. I cant take them in any sort of good faith anymore.
There is literal a mosque in lanzhou, the city me and my family are from. There are so many restaurants owned by hui people. And as we all know when the nazis started to genocide jewish people, the first thing they did was let them continue to own businesses and keep their religious buildings intact. (Sarcasm)
Xiran has gone from misguided idiot who falls for us propaganda to someone who is activily pushing us propaganda to me now.
And i fucking hate that its consistently people like them that are the loudest voices for diaspora chinese and are the ones being pushed as diaspora chinese creators.
I HATE XIRAN JAY ZHAO TOO
There were US state propaganda pieces about hui being the "secret Muslims" in China who were "complicit" in not defending their Uyghur muslim brethren or some shit it's simply ridiculous.
Pardon my ignorance, and I’m not defending the US propaganda, but here in England we have mosques and Muslim-owned businesses, but Muslims are still systematically oppressed on some level. Are you up for clarifying what you mean by systematic oppression here?
Thw claim that many people make about china is thay its a deeply islamphobic country that is rpunding muslims up and sending them to concentration camps.
A claim that ive literally heard being made by a tumblr user was how the chinese government will send officals to your house and force you to eat pork if you are muslim.
Now if things were really that bad and china was doing nazi shit to muslims, why would they then let them own businesses and keep their places of worship?
Now thats not to say that there isnt any Islamophobia in china but the point im trying to make is that its not a systemic government sriven genocide.
A lot of the Islamophobia in china comes from a individual level of chinese people who arent muslim viewing muslims as evil trouble makers.
Now this is a bad thing and i wish it was addressed and people werent so distrusting of muslim people and didnt view them as bad people.
But this is nowhere near the cartoonish bullshit claims of genocide that is leveled against china by the west.
American government is continuously perpetrating slow genocide of Native Americans, but nominally lets them retain some level of autonomy and land. Keeping pretenses is not an argument.
"A lot of the Islamophobia in china comes from a individual level of chinese people who arent muslim viewing muslims as evil trouble makers." sounds like completely ignoring systemic element of oppression.
No offense but this sounds to me exactly like Europeans defending racism in Europe or Americans defending racism in America.
You're confusing individual citizens having -phobic attitudes/thoughts vs statal oppression, everywhere in the west there are islamophobic citizens, homophobic citizens, antisemitic citizens, transphobic citizens, etc but it doesn't mean it reaches a statal level bc these are all results of cultural biases that yes, sometimes are fed by certain political parties as a means to earn votes for their own benefits, however statal oppression speaks of laws put in place to explicitly claim certain populations as class b citizens, as inferior, so they're persecuted, not allowed to exist in public, they're tortured, imprisoned, etc. I would say France for example is a state that oppresses their Muslim population, they consistently try to ban women from wearing hijabs on campuses, they forbid Muslim apparel on the beach (and then had to overrule this due to human rights concerns), etc, because these are all laws that forbid a very specific group from freely existing in public due to their religion. In 1970s in my country under the dictatorship you would be murdered by the state if found to be reading communist theory books and there was a very clear good citizen classification order done and explicitly published by the state and presented as a valid, lawful document, this was the case too under south African apartheid with race and the current Israeli occupation apartheid. In China this is not the case, the state does not persecute or push laws against minorities, on the contrary, minorities are actually more protected under laws, they were exempt from the 1 child policy, there's programs of cultural protection of their customs and languages, etc, what HAS happened in China is that the CIA funded cell groups of extremism for their own benefits in key, very resources rich regions such as Tibet and Xinjiang, the government has clashed with these very specific groups, not with the broader minorities, and these propaganda movements are still heavily funded by the US government to this day btw
I think it's also relevant to note that the USA has material interest in perpetuating these phobias that China does not. USA benefits from war it wages in the middle east so islamophobia is both consequence and justification for it. USA benefits from plundering latin america and getting cheap immigrant labor so it benefits from hatred of latinos in the population. As a colonial state USA necessitates continuously reaffirming the "legitimacy" of its claim to the land and so it benefits from eliminating the indigenous population and if they cant do that then keeping them down so they can't organize and revolt against the colonial regime, etc. These are the reasons why erradicating racism and xenophobia is not in the interest of the US government.
Meanwhile China is not an imperialist country and it is not a colonial country so the state has no interest in the existence of hatred for certain groups and in fact is harmed by it and seeks at every turn to try and correct it to achieve shared prosperity. The 5 year plans of the CCP regularly make large efforts to not only erradicate racism and xenophobia but also the conditions of inequality between ethnic groups that might give rise to it. What China is doing is what any anti-racist person wants to see done in the USA and the rest of the west: 1) work towards having an economy that doesn't rely on exploitation of others, 2) acknowledge the harm done in the past that continues into the present, 3) spend resources evening out historical disadvantages of certain groups caused by past oppressions, etc. You can see statistics showing that disadvantaged groups in china are improving their conditions at incredibly fast rates compared to the west where its absurdly slow or even regressing. If the USA suddenly announced they would do like China is doing, everyone would jump with joy, but if China does it then it's not good somehow.
It also muddies the conversation that a lot of the things China does are things the west claims to be doing but isnt really doing so it feels like "the same thing" but when you look at the numbers its completely different because China actually has results to show for it.
@twoblondesmaybemore I'm @ing because you reblogged from me but I only saw it now, but I want to recommend the book Why The World Needs China by Kyle Ferrana!!! I think you will really enjoy it because it goes into a lot of detail and primary sources to show the vast differences in treatment of minorities within China vs within the USA. I can send you the chapter about it but the whole book is really good. There's a chapter in Atrocity Fabrication by Abrams about the western propaganda in this regard about China as well that's really really good.
Why is every diaspora chinese writer some flavor of defector slop.
She was quoted asking: "how do you go from the roots that Mao and Rin had, to holding unimaginable power and causing so much suffering with it? How do you mentally justify that to yourself?"[9] - RF Kuang
Yes mao is evil because he didnt magically and instantly fix all of China's post war issues. /scarcasm
