Today Germany saw a record number of people gather together in Dresden. They sang Christmas Carols and smiled together. 17,000 Germans sang Christmas Carols whilst calling for the eradication of Islam and Muslims.

This was the latest and largest in a string of Islamophobic, racist and fascist marches by the right wing in Europe. As a Muslim growing up in the west I am more scared now than ever before. My ancestral homelands are ravaged by war and terror. And my home in the west now also feels unsafe. Islamophobia isn’t something small and uncommon anymore. It’s become accepted as something not only common but as something good. I fear for the future.

If people can sing carols while calling for the death of a billion people then how can I feel safe. I’m scared for the next generation, my younger siblings and their kids. As a student of history it’s frighteningly easy to draw parallels with period before the Holocaust.We all swore never again and yet now my people are the new targets.

Please share and reblog this so people can see that Muslims do renounce terror. We do not hate anyone. We are afraid of what the terrorists do. We are more afraid of what others will do to us because of them. Please share this. Help us see there is nothing to fear.

As a German, I'd like to clarify some things:

1. Politicians (except for the far-right wing national parties and the pseudo democratic party AfD) are condemning these demonstrations as blemish and disgraceful.

2. These demonstrations do not reflect the common consent of the german community. Yes, there are thousands marching, many of them not even entirely aware of what is really happening or that they are just being instrumentalized by nationalists, which, when asked on TV is something they don't want to be recognized as. Are they to be taken less seriously because of that? No. And politicians and the german public are aware of that problem and desperate to alter this state. Germany as a country has struggled long and hard because of it's racist and fascist history, and do believe this: THEY HAVE LEARNED FROM THEIR PAST and never ever want to let something like it happen again. There are many genuinely good people in germany, people who see through all this fear and hatemongering, who don't let themselves be used as puppets by the racist scum. And, they represent the majority.

3. Did you know that in many german cities, the traditional christmas markets have been renamed into winter markets to not discriminate against people of other than christian belief? Believe it or not but Germany is a country really eager on appeasing and making amendments to other religions, especially Islam. In light of current events, one politician even made the request for muslim songs to be sung in church during christmas mass.

4. It is easy to condemn this simply as racist or xenophobic, but one has to take a closer look at the rule of this issue. Many of these protestors fear to lose their own traditions and their national identity (thus the name PeGiDa - Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the Occident) and are being instrumentalized by right wing agitators and fascists. I don't mean to lessen this issue or sympathize with the protestors in any way but this issue is not as easy as it seems.

Justice for Vader!

We would like the justice for the unlawful euthanization of Vader the pet exotic fox to his owner Tara. You can see from her blog that he is nothing but a sweet, kind animal with no aggressive tendencies, and the accusations are false.
