Me, watching a romantic Kdrama:
Me, watching an intense Kdrama thriller:
watching dramas and being in tumblr is like;
checking the tag before you've properly started watching it
spoil something for yourself and trying to forget; attempts being futile
still being in the tags whilst watching the drama but carefully trying to avoid spoilers
finishing the drama and reblogging any and all content there is in the tags
I know Viki has gotten a little bit of extra hate recently for having really slow and badly translated subs but I gotta admit, those subs can be top tier. The way some subbers add notes in to explain the cultural context to some scenes? Immaculate.
First I consume media and then I go to the tumblr tag and consume the fan content until the obsession fades
can you recommend one drama for each dynasty? I love history in itself and find shows/books/movie easy ways to introduce the idea and my brain has been eaten with the need to know all the chinese history now.

S/n: I’ve watched all of these series or at least a considerable part of I didn’t finish watching them. I have to admit; some of them aren’t very intriguing and very predictable they’ve taught me a considerable amount of Chinese History. Not all of the dramas are harem dramas; Succession war, General and I, and Story of Minglan are of a slightly different genre.
So, I caught up with all the 14 eps of Renascence that are out.
1. I am amused to note that poor Prince Su lost the woman he loves to the Emperor not once but twice.
2. Glad to know the Emperor is EVIL tho they toned it down considerably from the novel.
3. The male lead is a literal baby and not my type look-wise but he has a lot of on-screen charm. Good job! His leading lady is fine. I am not going to seek her other dramas out after this, but I am not going to cringe hearing she is cast either.
4. This was cut from 70 episodes to 36. Their editors deserve a medal because somehow it is still a fully coherent story. I mean, you can tell things have been cut out and it moves fast (which is good) but also feels very shallow because they don’t dwell on anything in depth, but it’s coherent.
5. If you want to see a thoughtful historical take on the same story (woman empress who loves one brother, a general, but has to marry the other; the former is the one who should have been the emperor), please watch The Promise of Chang’an which seems to promise and deliver that. (I plan to start this weekend.) This is not it. This is good popcorn fun, no more no less. It is very much like popcorn actually - no nutrition, won’t fill you up, probably not great for you, but fun and tasty as long as that is not the only thing you eat. Basically the feeling this gives me is exactly the feeling I get when reading many a webnovel - trashy, fun, and hella addictive.

I thought it would get better, I kept my hope alive.
But I don't wanna be the bearer of pain just so we can survive.
You opened up Pandora's box, you don't know what you just unlocked. I lose all control, let go of my darkest thoughts.
'Cause I see the truth when we were stacked against the odds...
And I pray that hope's not lost

The Empress of China (2014)
year-end drama recommendation
Holy shiet, what a year it was. Definitely not what we expected, and definitely not what we were prepared for. There were many ups and downs for all of us, tiring days, bad news, heartbreaking moments. It was a year from hell, and yet, we are here. The end of the year 2020. Throughout all the hardships and worries I tried to stay sane, and one foolproof way for me to destress were… yup ✨ dramas ✨ .
I present to you a list of 5 jdramas which kept me company during this crazy year. I will be posting one recommendation every day starting from today and ending it on the 31st od December, New Year’s Eve. I hope you’ll like them and maybe a few of you will be interested in watching some of them. Now, I proudly present
1. Love Lasts Forever (2020)
10 eps, 51 min each
A cheerful, romantic and adorable jdrama liked by many. I had stumbled upon it just after the quarantine started and it was a good pick-me-up piece that made me feel like I was watching Mischevious Kiss once again. Butterflies everywhere fest.
Main female lead is admirable and cheerful. Not only she is very serious about her feelings, but also inspired and determined to work as a nurse. I adore the way this drama is dealing with Sakura’s attraction to Tendo, because while she is terribly in love with him, she also tries to be independent and her own person during various situations. Also, there were many hilarious and sudden inserts where Sakura - dressed in armor&holding a big ass sword - carries on with casual conversations between her and her coworkers. Tendo is more on the tsundere side, and we all know how it affects out fragile hearts. He is a little harsh on the outside, but he deeply cares about his patients and wants the best for them, which is why he might have been too demanding at first. After the initial shock we see more of him and as his character is developed, so is his softer side. This mix of characters and light-hearted moments were a well-rounded and efficient cure for my distress.
