Behemoth + Watian + Bölzer at The Metro Sydney 03/10/15
So the all mighty Behemoth along with Watain and Bolzer where in Sydney on Saturday night, and holy hell it was a fantastic experience! With it nearly being a sold out show, Satan himself would of been proud!
The night started with Bölzer, a two piece from Switzerland. Even though they where small in number they commanded the whole room, many people expressed that they where a highlight of the night! Little it known about this band because they never do any press, but they did put on a great show.
Next where the mighty Watain all the way from Sweden. Now I had been warned that this band may make me want to puke as they cover themselves in animal blood, that they never wash their stage clothes and throw blood on the crowd, to say I was worried was an understatement! We all congregated in the photo pit all with the same look of worry on our faces and waited for all hell to break loose.
For once I was glad for our nanny state over protective laws here in Sydney, as thankfully there was no animal blood thrown around, but the band themselves where covered in it, and given the heatwave that we where experiencing the band didn't smell to bad! Phew!
Last but not least where Behemoth themselves, and the chance to see them and photograph them was an incredible experience. Nergal walked out onto the state holding two fire sticks while his fellow band members stood in silhouette and I knew I was in for a treat.
The band performed with such infectious energy and the crowd soaked every inch of it up, screaming back the lyrics with as much ferocity as Nergal himself, I've never seen someone perform with as much intensity, you could tell that the band where happy to be there! From opening with Blow Your Trumpets Gabriel to closing with O Father, O Satan, O Sun, the band never stopped giving it their all.
I am truly thankful for being able to experience such an amazing show with so many of my friends, it really was an absolutely incredible night. Thanks to Soundworks Touring for putting on the show, and thanks to Heavy Music Magazine for sending me along to the show.
