My collection of blends is large. They are well preserved, to ensure the richness of aroma is not lost to time. And then... each one is carefully chosen for the mood I am in. And right now, I fancy something Ryeham has to offer.

Ah, but can you really fault me, an observer only, for seeing humor in someone else's tragedy? I am not unaware of the fingers pointed and the laughs hidden behind my back, either. Let me feast on my observations just as much as all of "you" do when observing my fates.

Enough of that. You are here now, and we must proceed regardless, don't we?

His Excellency, of course. Surely you have heard of Him, by now? What do you really know about me? About the Syndicate? What we aim to do?

Your form is irrelevant. We can fix that problem, if you are so concerned about it.

Your power, however, is essential. Use it openly, and people dare not disobey you. Use it covertly, and people cannot defend against you. Whichever way you choose, use it to your advantage.

Stop being a hamster in someone else's wheel, Linnie. Set the cage and wheels yourself! Come, join us and watch with us, as the world runs by our rules.

(Linnie takes another long sip of tea, swallowing thickly and biting back a rather sharp response)

"Very well."

("Gods...really? Can I not have a vulnerable moment? What an ass..." Linnie thinks as he takes another sip of tea, choosing to avert his gaze rather then rolling his eyes. He lets Cyran fill the air and monologue until Cyran mentions Him)

("Oh of course. I should have expected that... You're really not all that different." Linnie's eyes narrow, gripping the handle of his teacup tighter)

"Heard of him? Of course I have. Your counterpart was planning to use me to help free Him, part of that plan was cursing me. As for the syndicate. Freeing hypogeans? Offering dark solutions to peoples problems with a cost that could ruin them? When they're in the thralls of despair? Doesn't sound particularly noble."

(Linnie sighs)

"I will agree that the world has its problems but so far all I've seen is tragedy caused by the Syndicates hands whenever it tries to solve these flaws. Could you perhaps prove me otherwise, I wonder?"

(Linnie settle his cup on it's saucer, folding his primary hands on his lap)

"I suppose you have point. I am being rather vain about it...and both those statements are true. Fear is an effective manipulator and weapon,"

(Linnie pauses for a moment, pursing his lips at the... hmm what is that, mockery? in Cyran's metaphor. He crosses his secondary arms, tilting his head to the side at the sound of the bizarre offer before leaning over the table between them)

"Your rules more like, come now, you'd never like mine. That aside, if you are trying to convince me to join you, you're going to have to try a lot harder than that, Cyran. Go on, try and make me an offer I can't refuse. I dare you."

*Cyran scoffs gently, before it phases into a sigh.*

You have such a ... narrow-minded view of things. But, in your current condition, perhaps there is a chance that you might come to understand with a bit more ... clarifications.

You are the reason the Syndicate had to suffer from these setbacks, be it in our research or our business operations. Think about it, Linnie. Have you allowed us to operate? Let us complete our businesses, deliver to our customers and build bridges to possibilities you could never imagine? No? Then why are you so surprised to see the negative consequences of your actions?

Perhaps you should consider all the successes we have had, and what they meant to the people we serve? You would be surprised.

Our rules? No... the rules of nature and the world. Nature is eradicating life constantly and ruthlessly. Only those intelligent enough to understand these rules, or STRONG enough to defy them, can live. Your mistake is to assign any value to the life of individual pawns. With or without their happiness or longevity, Esperia exists.

You ... were... not immortal. Your stance among the pawns would make no difference, do not delude yourself. The moment you are gone, the world will run by the rules it has set for itself once more. You cannot change it. So why bother? Truly, a lost effort.

Oh, an offer? Beyond whatever you can imagine? Ah yes, still Merlin at heart, after all. You have been wronged and yet you dare hold on to the world that has forsaken you.

What more do you want, other than a system where such betrayal is no longer possible? The liability of blind trust won't even exist anymore. It is nothing but business, fair or unfair, whatever you prefer, and its inevitable consequences.

But, of course, you are free to return to your world and wallow in that self-pity and the agony of having become the victim of these ... rules.
