(2 weeks until Christmas.)
You woke up, rubbing your eyes and moving your free hand around looking for your phone.
You got a text, it was from Grayson.
Hey Y/N. I’m taking you out tonight. Be ready by 6. Dress nice.
This boy.
You smile down at your phone.
My address is Y/A. Can’t wait to see you.
You stretch your arms and roll out of bed. You opened the curtains. You had to squint your eyes from the bright, dazzling snow reflecting from the ground.
You were happy
You were genuinely happy.
That night…
You sat in your room looking in the mirror putting on your favorite lipstick. You were wearing a short black dress that, you gotta admit looked amazing on you.
*Knock knock knock*
You jumped up from your seat and frantically ran down the stairs trying to put on your high heels. Why is he so early? You should still have 30 minutes left to get ready.
You opened the door. Grayson was standing in front of you with a tux and a bouquet of roses.
You admired him head to toe.
“Hi,” you panted.
He noticed you looked distressed.
“Hi, you okay there?”
“Yeah just chillin,” you rested an arm on the door frame.
“Wow, you look...stunning.”
“Thanks. You look...so hot,” you paused, shocked of the words that came out of your mouth.
Why. Just why Y/N.
“I mean you look good as well,” your face went so red.
He laughed, handing you the roses.
“This is for you.”
“Thanks,” you laughed awkwardly. “Come in.”
You put the roses in a vase filled with water and set it on the kitchen table.
Grayson looked around the room.
“Nice apartment.”
“Thanks. It’s small but it works.”
“I’m sorry i’m early, I was just excited to see you.”
“Oh it’s more than okay. I missed you,” you felt like punching yourself for sounding so obsessed.
“I missed you too,” suddenly you didn’t feel so bad anymore.
“So, where are we going?”
“It’s a surprise.”
You parked next to a fancy restaurant. You’ve been driving for about an hour, bumping to your favorite songs. Grayson opened the car door for you and took your hand, helping you out.
Walking into the restaurant felt strange. Not that it wasn’t absolutely speechless, because it was, but it felt like you were at the wrong place. It was lit up by candles that sat on each table. There was classical music playing and tons of posh looking people chatting.
“Reservation for Y/N and Grayson.”
The lady showed us to our table and placed two menu’s in front of us.
“Woah, this place is absolutely beautiful! Have you ever been here before?”
“No, actually. This is my first time. I've always wanted to go but I didn’t have anyone to go with. Not anyone I wanted to bring bad enough that is.”
That hit you right in the heart.
You both ordered lobster. It took about 30 minutes to get to your table, which wasn’t really long. The time flew by. You actually got a complaint from the table beside you for laughing to loud and “disrupting the peace.”
You both started feasting, and you tried really hard not to look like a pig stuffing down your food.
“Hmm, this tastes so good Gray. How’s yours?”
“Honestly, couldn’t ask for anything better.”
You reached across the table to grab a tish but accidentally knocked over your glass, spilling wine all over your dress.
“Shit!”
Grayson jumped up from his seat, rushing over to assist you. He grabbed the tish you were originally trying to get and started rubbing the lower part of your dress.
You looked up at him innocently. He immediately stopped and stared back.
This was it. The moment you were waiting for. The thing that was so close to happening so many other times. The kiss. This was it.
You started leaning in.
Here we go.
Grayson quickly backed up, “I’m sorry, I can’t.”
“What? Did I do something wrong?”
You felt so dumb. You were so embarrassed.
“No, It’s not you…i’m just- Look, i’m sorry. I shouldn’t have gotten you into this.
“What are you talking about?’
He looked down, looking both guilty and sad.
“I’m sorry, this was a mistake.”
He grabbed his jacket and threw some money at the table.
“I’ll take you home.”
He was already rushing out the door.
You were still sitting at the table thinking for a few seconds. You got up and started running after him. You swung open the door and stepped outside the restaurant.
“Grayson, stop!” You yelled.
He turned back to look at you.
“Come on, let’s just go,” he said opening the door.
“Is this about what you and your dad were talking about?”
He sighed heavily, looking around seeing if anybody was watching.
“Yeah.”
“Grayson, just tell me.”
He just stared at you.
“Are...are you seeing someone?
“What? No!”
“Then what are you so afraid of?!”
“Me and Ethan are moving back to LA in 2 weeks.”
You didn’t know what to say. You couldn’t think.
“I just- going into this, I didn’t think. You know?”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t know I was going to feel this way about you, but I do!”
You kept your eyes down at your feet, thinking of what to say.
“Gray, we can figure something out.,” you said lowering your tone.
“No Y/N, we can’t! You don’t think I tried to think of some other way? It’s impossible. I won’t see you ever again, and even if I do, then what?
You were shocked. You’ve never seen him like this before. A tear rolled down your cheek.
This fun little thing, whatever it was. It was over.
