watching a documentary on henry and anne. i love how people tend to forget how truly pious anne was. mostly because people paint her as a witch and harlot.
The Queen’s day began with the great curtains of her bed being drawn back by her ladies. Elizabeth was not, as she said of herself, a ‘morning person’. Sometimes she rose early in order to be ready to grant an audience at eight o’clock, but more usually she was still in bed while the rest of her household went about their duties, lighting fires and sweeping the chambers. (…) Elizabeth rarely dressed immediately but, clothed in her ‘night stuff’, would be served breakfast in her Bedchamber – manchet bread, meat, pottage, ale or wine – before taking a fast walk in her privy garden. She was an ‘inveterate walker’ whatever the weather. She generally walked with a ‘stately gait’, unless she wanted to ‘catch a heat in the cold morning’ or wander through her gardens for pleasure and recreation. Sometimes she might walk accompanied by her ladies, but very often she preferred to be alone, with her guards at a careful distance. On other occasions she would begin the day sitting in her nightgown, reading by the window in her Bedchamber. [The Queen’s Bed - Anna Whitelock]
can anyone blame elizabeth for never marrying or having children??? yes as queen it was her duty to form an alliance through marriage and produce heirs. but from the time she was child till she ascended to the throne??? not once did she have a strong male figure that didn’t somehow abuse or use her. as much as i know she loved henry, she also loathed him with equal measure. never spoke an unkind word toward him because honestly elizabeth wasn’t a dumbass. but still, she did. the boleyn's were disgraced. and tbqh the seymour’s aren’t winning any brownie points after the sexual abuse she endured at thomas’ hand. so really??? reluctance towards marriage was a result of a lot’ve things. the only thing elizabeth ever cared to belong to??? was england and her people.
Katherine Ashley tells how Thomas Seymour abused Elizabeth Tudor
She saith at Chelsea, incontinent after he was married to the Queen, he would come many mornings into the said Lady Elizabeth’s chamber, before she was ready, and sometime before she did rise. And if she were up, he would bid her good morrow, and ask how she did, and strike her upon the back or on the buttocks familiarly, and so go forth through his lodgings; and sometime go through to the maidens, and play with them, and so go forth: And if she were in her bed, he would put open the curtains, and bid her good morrow, and make as though he would come at her: And she would go further in the bed, so that he could not come at her.
And one morning he strove to have kissed her in her bed: And this Examinate was there, and bade him go away for shame. She knoweth not whether this was at Chelsea, or Hanworth.
At Hanworth, he would likewise come in the morning unto her Grace; but, as she remembereth, at all times, she was up before, saving two mornings, the which two mornings, the Queen came with him: And this Examinate lay with her Grace; and there they tickled my Lady Elizabeth in the bed, the Queen and my Lord Admiral.
Another time at Hanworth, in the garden, he wrated with her, and cut her gown in an hundred pieces, being black cloth; and when she came up, this Examinant chid with her; and her Grace answered, She could not do withal, for the Queen held her, while the Lord Admiral cut it.
Another time at Chelsea, the Lady Elizabeth hearing the privy-lock undo, knowing that he would come in, ran out of her bed to her maidens, and then went behind the curtain of the bed, the maidens being there; and my Lord tarried to have her come out, she can not till how long. This Examinate hard of the gentlewomen. She thinks Mr. Power told it her. And then in the gallery this Examinate told my Lord that these things were complained of, and that my Lady was evil spoken of: The Lord Admiral swore, God’s precious soul! he would tell my Lord Protector how it slandered him, and he would not leave it, for he meant no evil.
At Seymour Place, when the Queen lay there, he did use awhile to come up every morning in his nightgown, barelegged in his slippers, where he found commonly the Lady Elizabeth up at her book: and then he would look in at the gallery door, and bid my Lady Elizabeth good morrow, and so go his way. Then this Examinate told my Lord it was an unseemly sight to come so barelegged to a maiden’s chamber; with which he was angry, but he left it.
The Confession of Katherine Ashley
Pay attention to:
… she would go further in the bed, so that he could not come at her…
…he would likewise come in the morning unto her Grace; but, as she remembereth, at all times, she was up before…
…the Lady Elizabeth hearing the privy-lock undo, knowing that he would come in, ran out of her bed to her maidens, and then went behind the curtain of the bed, the maidens being there; and my Lord tarried to have her come out, she can not till how long…
…he did use awhile to come up every morning in his nightgown, barelegged in his slippers, where he found commonly the Lady Elizabeth up at her book
It shows Elizabeth trying to avoid Seymour’s inappropriate advances. Imagine how confused and frightened she must have felt.
Mary? How can you trust her?
watched the series finale and all i have to say is...finally. she starts acting like the elizabeth i know and love.
The White Princess, episode 8 - Old Curses
“ I haven’t seen vampires die like this since… ” “ Don’t make me a liar. ” “ How do we find that? ” “ Spare me the medical analogies and fix him! ” “ Take a walk. Get some air, let her work. Please? ” “ Please tell me you can do this. ” “ I’m not gonna stop until he’s safe. ” “ There’s got to be another option. ” “ I’m not just gonna sit around while she’s dying. ” “ I work better alone. ” “ You’re the only one I trust, alright? ” “ I never told you, but over countless years, you have meant so much to me. ” “ You have been a redeemer, a confidant, a mentor, a rival… and a friend. ” “ And at times, yes, you have been a royal pain in the ass. ” “ This will not be your end. ” “ I could do with a bit of murder and mayhem. ” “ All right, chit-chat’s over. Can we slaughter someone now? ” “ Lethal thorns, resurrected witches, what can possibly go wrong? ” “ He’ll recognize me. ” “ Now, that is messed up. ” “ How gallant. ” “ Can I interest anyone in a swift and painless death? ” “ Do we have to be so swift? ” “ Yes, but I’m not finished with this one. ” “ Yes and I’m the worst of the worst. ” “ Why didn’t you tell me? ” “ We’ve got work to do. ” “ You liar. You swine. ” “ No, no, no, that Bordeaux was a gift from the Duke of Burgundy. ” “ It’s more than worth the indulgence. ” “ That’s not our only problem. ” “ That’s a peculiar place for a nap. ” “ Look, I don’t need to inform anyone of my tactics, especially you. ” “ The magically crafted source of all our current misery. ” “ Children, please use your words. ” “ Do you really want to fight the both of us, after everything that we have endured? ” “ Perhaps next time less carrot, more stick. ” “ You don’t have to do this if you don’t want to. ” “ Hopefully, that’s a good place. ” “ I’ll be right back, sweetie. ” “ All right, I’ve had enough of your condescending cold shoulder. Talk to me. ” “ You’re filled with grief and you’re lashing out. ” “ Oh, lovely, you’re sounding like your old self. ” “ I’m here to help you. ” “ I appreciate you meeting with me and I’d like to make it worth your while. ” “ Now, I know what you’re thinking… ” “ There’s no reason we can’t go back to old times. ” “ But trust me when I say I make a better friend than foe. ” “ You guys put up a good fight. I respect that. ” “ I suppose I should say thank you for your hard work. ” “ That’s just your paranoia, all right? Not everything is a plot against you. ” “ There was a time when you’d have gone to these lengths for me. ” “ I’m not trying to fight you. I’m just trying to bring you home. ” “ Now, listen, I need you to trust me. ” “ Please don’t do this. ” “ I’m right here. ” “ You need to leave. This isn’t safe. ” “ Please forgive me. ” “ Good work today. ” “ Well, top-notch day, huh? ” “ Well, you don’t sound all that optimistic. ” “ You can have one or the other: power or friends. ” “ Well, for what it’s worth, pretty glad you’re my friend. ” “ I can’t do this on my own. ” “ From what I hear you saved the day. ” “ You know what we are. ” “ We’re, all of us, monsters. ” “ Well, everybody got what they wanted. ” “ Can I convince you to do the same? ” “ I’m not in the mood for games, witch. ” “ Some would go to the ends of the earth to protect their love. ”

elizabeth the I, mother of england, and proclaimed virgin queen would not give up her fucking throne/titles for a damn man.
i love how reign makes it seem that elizabeth’s happiness depends upon a man.
“I suppose you think he likes you.”
