A prayer for the end of capitalism, for the restoration of earth, and its people.
A wild Artemis and Apollo appear. 🌿
Ludvig Munthe (Norwegian-German, 1841-1896)
Moon-kissed child of Hircine: / Accept mine proffered blessing do / So thou wilt never flee or rue. / From faun to fear-bringer, / Nadir to night-singer / Even the odds and return those who huntest thou to basest parts / Hearts and all.
My Skyrim Dragonborn, Vakna True-Thunder shortly after turning an unlucky band of highwaymen into a three-course meal. Wanted to make an illustration alluding to her history with lycanthropy and the Daedric Prince of Prey over the course of a decade. After all, where is the sport in hunting an unarmed prisoner on the run–a young messenger for the Jarl of Windhelm himself who had yet to see even her sixteenth winter? The pursuing Dominion jailers and hounds never had any intention of playing fair, blood moon or not, so Hircine offered the desperate girl the power to even these odds and make his forest a proper hunting ground once more. And in years since, she has certainly never let this power go to waste.

Now Was the Day Departing (1890)
think it's a deep consolation to know that spiders dream, that monkeys tease predators, that dolphins have accents, that lions can be scared silly by a lone mongoose, that otters hold hands, and ants bury their dead. that there isn't their life and our life. nor your life and my life. that it's just one teetering and endless thread and all of us, all of us, are entangled w it as deep as entanglement goes. v neat i think.
I'm just fascinated with how the gods are all by themselves sides of the same coin. Apollo is medicine and plague. Demeter is harvest and famine. Athena is the order of the polis and the uncertainty of war. Dionysus creates chaos only to reinforce order once the party is over. Poseidon is the untameable sea and the liberty that seafaring permits. Artemis is a goddess of the wild yet helps young girls transition into their settled life as adult women.
#this is why gods and monsters are cousins #both straddle an impossible boundary that would tear any mortal being apart #for the monster that existence is agony #but a god can encompass impossible dualities harmoniously (@aethersea)
Haven't see you for a long time...
This is a bronze statuette of Artemis, dated to the end of the 4th cent. B.C., which was retrieved from deep waters in the open sea by Mykonos, in May 1959 and since then has been kept in the storerooms of the National Archaeological Museum. This specific statuette was probably dedicated to a sanctuary of the goddess. Its provenance indicates that it was once included in the cargo of a ship, possibly transporting works of art among other things.
