Are we just not gonna talk about how Michael was so willing to get Jeremy out of an abusive relationship when he thought Jeremy was still âniceâ but refused to give him an out after Halloween until he apologized during The Play?
Like, imagine someone knows this person is in an abusive relationship so they give the victim an out. The victim says no because they donât believe that their abuser is, well, an abuser. Later on, however, they realize that they donât want to be with their abuser anymore so they ask the person for an out. The person says, âyes but you have to buy me an apple.â
In both instances the victim is denied a way out of their abusive relationship because a third party wants something that canât be achieved by the victim at that moment.
The victim from the example probably doesnât have any money because abusers normally control their victimsâ money so they canât escape. Jeremy couldnât apologize to Michael because the SQUIP was literally controlling his vocal chords to stop him apologizing and his body to physically fight Michael.
Do I think Michael deserves an apology? Yeah. Before the SQUIP is out of the picture? No. As a bargaining chip to give Jeremy freedom from his abuser? Absolutely not.
Thereâs also the fact that Michael is aware that the SQUIP can stop Jeremy from doing something even if he wants to do it.
So, yeah, Jeremy did some shitty things (almost all of which can be explained by the SQUIPâs abusive behavior try me) but so did Michael. No one character in Be More Chill is completely innocent (thatâs kinda the point of making them seem more human). Stop treating him like he did nothing wrong and making Jeremy out to be the villain because thatâs not the point of Be More Chill. Treat them like the fully fleshed characters they are.
Also, the SQUIP is the absolute worst.
