“Fine. I can play nice.” But the words were softly spoken; not challenging. “Of course there’s not.” Alina let out a sigh as they continued on. “We’ve only about three hours of daylight left, so we should probably find somewhere to stay the night in about half that time, in case we have to backtrack to a place we saw along the way.” Not that she was going to get much sleep with a stranger beside her, but Damon didn’t seem like a sociopath to her, so that was at least something. Plus, she seemed keen on living, which although they didn’t have in common, Alina did know where a Christmas stash of guns were that she knew would still be there.
“Alright, good.” The better they got along the less of a chance either would end up dead with a knife to the skull from the other. “I’ll keep an eye out, but if our luck is as good as it’s been with finding cars we’re fucked,” she replied to the other woman’s suggestion at finding shelter. Things were dangerous enough during the day without the nighttime providing low light. She kept a look out for anything that could provide shelter for the two of them but that seemed about as fruitful as their search for a car. “I’m starting to think the fates hate us,” she stated aloud as they walked.
