As the World Falls Down, also known as Fox and Frankie, is a South Korean sibling duo that formed under Shining Light Entertainment in 2021. The unit is made of Fox/Yeonseok (Key) and Frankie/Kyungmi (Chaeyoung) of The Monster Chronicles.

Pre-Debut:

Kim Yeonseok is best known by his stage name Yeou (여우, which translates to ‘Fox’) and Kim Kyung-mi, who is best known as ‘Frankie’, which is short for Frankenstein. Both of them were already well-established artists under Shining Light Entertainment. Yeonseok was a soloist who debuted in 2008 as Yeou. He is not only known as SL’s all-rounder but was also well-known for being a fashion designer, songwriter, actor, and television presenter. His younger sister Kyung-mi debuted in 2015 in a group known as The Monster Chronicles, also under Shining Light Entertainment. The group was known for its ‘monsters’, where each member represented a famous monster with Kyung-mi being Frankenstein, which is where her later stage name Frankie comes from.

In 2020, The Monster’s Chronicle disbanded. Some of the members even left the company, however, SL Entertainment’s CEO didn’t want Kyung-mi to leave as they wanted to debut as a soloist. At this time, Yeou was working on a project he had worked on for a while but was stuck in a brain/writer’s block. In the meantime, Kyung-mi wasn’t sure if she should stay or quit altogether and continue as a graphic designer, something she always wanted to do before being hired by SL Entertainment almost 10 years prior. At some point, when she was spending quality time with her brother, they began talking about their future plans.

Whilst the two have an 8-year-gap, and were in various different states of life growing up, the two had lots of common interests. This ranged from their fashion to music tastes, so the two came up with the idea that they would make a unit and combine their ideas. They tell this to their CEO and she approved of it.

The two would then start to train again to rehabilitate their skills and in 2021 they finally debuted with their song Labyrinth

➼ When she was 12 her and Yeon’s grandmother passed away so she moved to Seoul. But due to her parents and brother being busy, she would often spend her hours at home alone.

He was practicing in the studio at that moment and when he came out, the producer half-joked about Frankie trying to sing. She did it and was later scouted to join the audition and become a trainee there.

a masquerade ball where people can be who they want whenever they want without giving away their identity.

seems like fun, right?

but that’s not all.

out of nine, each girl had a mission to find who this mysterious person is. this person who has been said to be an enemy of their mafia. one of their biggest.

it’s surprising because, they’ve never heard of her? or even seen her.

but tonight they were going to find out.

what they didn’t know is how they all crossed her.

nayeon, had a conversation with her over the talks of how lovely her dress was. asking how she did her makeup, despite only seeing very little. how does she do her lips? she asked. suddenly the woman had to leave. she was puzzled.

jeongyeon and jihyo, conversed with her over drinks, the girl took small sips of her wine before having to suddenly leave. they don’t know why.

momo had come across her! on the dance floor. she and the mysterious girl waltz together so elegantly. their gazes not leaving each other. the chemistry was so good. only until she had to leave and momo sulks.

sana was her usual flirty self, along with chaeyoung who would complement the girl on her soft hair, and how the dress compliments her body. how her giggle is so cute! so caught up in the conversation, they become quite sad that you had to leave.

but dahyun and tzuyu were becoming suspicious. each girl had come across the same woman in the same night. throughout the big ball, she’d managed to come across half the girls now. they observed her, watching her as she made her way to mina.

mina was infatuated with the woman. words easily came out of her mouth as she was talking with her. it also seemed the woman was interested in her. her smile is what caught mina. slipping mina a small piece of paper, she held onto it. but she suddenly had to leave, as she was glancing at the two women who were watching you and mina.

jihyo confirms it over the ear pieces that it was her. the woman they all came in contact with.

the last thing tzuyu saw of the girl was her smirking as she left the ball room.

no one knew where she had went.

but mina had evidence of who she was.

all the paper had was your writing in cursive that said ‘call me señorita’

Name of Odin attested 150 years earlier than previously thought!

A really cool discovery made by Danish runic and language history researchers from a huge gold treasure which turns out to be the oldest attested mention of the god Odin not only in Scandinavia but in the world.

Two Danish articles that I translated below, but tl;dr summary:

A historical discovery made my Danish archeologist, runic researchers and language history researchers reveals that there’s attestations of the old norse god Odin by name about 150 years earlier than previously thought (not just in Scandinavia, in the world). The translation of a runic inscription on a bracteate contains the phrase “he is Odin’s man”, and the bracteate is dated to the 5th century. This means that at least in Denmark, there is an attested belief in Odin (and most likely the other old norse deities) much earlier than previously thought, but it is generally the oldest attestations to the named deity “Wōd[a]nas” (Odin) thus far discovered (previously oldest attestation was from southern Germany and the 6th century. In Denmark the oldest previous attestation was 8th century bone amulet). The discovery has also opened up new ways of translating runic inscriptions this old, which could help with further research of older texts that have previously been untranslatable.

I need to ask: what is the nightless night??

It's a saying for summer nights in Finland, especially for the Midsummer night. Due the tilt of Earth's axis, the sun barely dips down the horizon for a little while. Finnish summer nights look like this at from 3am onward:

In the North, the sun doesn't set for 3 months, so Lapland's nights are like this:

This is really the darkest it gets during summer nights:

When winter arrives, it turns the other way around. All 180 degrees! The sun barely rises over the horizon (8 degrees only) and sets after 4 hours. Here's 12pm sunlight in December, the lightest time of the day when the sun is at its highest.

In Lapland the sun doesn't rise for 3 months. This time is called Kaamos and this barely light time lasts for a few hours. This is the lightest it gets during kaamos.

Here's a normal winter day at 3pm. 20-23 hours are like this.

It's weird to me to think that majority of the people live in areas where the differences between the sunlight aren't this drastic, going from an opposite to another, but the days' length are about the same over the year.

That's crazy! I actually have to wonder what that does for people mentally because, at least here, people get something called Seasonal Depression which one cause is by the sun setting earlier and there being less light. I have to wonder what it does when there's practically no light for months.

A seasonal depression is a thing here, called as kaamosmasennus (Kaamos Depression), together with a vitamin D deficiency. The official recommendation from the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare is to take a vitamin D supplement daily from the beginning of October to the end of March.

The vitamin D deficiency hits hardest immigrants and POC Finns as darker skin absorbs vitamin D from the sunlight smaller amounts than a light skin. I was just diagnosed with a vitamin D deficiency, too.

I remember the old people saying when I was young, that when the lakes freeze and defrost, that’s when mental health issues in people abruptly arise. Especially if the person is already having mental health problems. I think it is linked to the lack of light and suddenly the light coming back. A spring depression is also a thing. Some people suffer of it after the dark winter time for a little while until they get used to the lighter time of the year again.

If you like the sun, the light and the warmth, Finland is not your place. Neither is Sweden, Norway or Iceland.
