Kim’s Things in the shop! Kim makes handmade crafts using upcycled materials and vintage imagery.
My things in the lovely Crafty Praxis, Huddersfield. I've not been doing a huge amount of art lately and have been focusing on jewellery instead.
On Monday I took all of my work down from the Lawrence Batley Theatre. Next thing up is A Taste of Host. Some really amazing stuff going up! I'm excited to go back and have a look at it all properly up.
Started putting an exhibition together for The Lawrence Batley Theatre "Luddities in Kirklees" exhibition. I'm finishing it off tomorrow! It's such a gorgeous space!
Today I’ll be running a monster making workshop in the exhibition space in the technology building from 10:30 - 12:30! If you’re an early riser and fancy something to do this morning, come along! We’ll make monsters! This is a lil guy I put together last night =]
Dinosaur drawings I did in second year and then forgot about!
I added 3 more images to the pink pig competition! I’m Kim Searle incase people don’t know!
Two multi layered screen prints from my second year dinosaur project, one of my illustrations of Finland.
Also, Laura Horsfield just entered, she’s another woman on my course who does some really lovely prints. This last image is her map of NYC.
Hey! I’ve entered some of my Hudd based work into Pink Pigs sketchbook cover competition! (Pink Pig’s Hudd based so felt it was appropriate =] ) Vote for me pleaaase! Pretty soon I’m gonna be pretty broke and £300 could really help me keep my head above water for a while and help me keep being able to do arty stuff!
Today's the first day of setting up the exhibition, scary times! Then we have until Thursday to rearrange things and finish up.
Today I did more digital printing, I'm excited about it =]
Doing some digital printing tomorrow =]
Hand silk screened staff tshirt for Crafty Praxis!
Exposing screens is something I still think is magical. Like darkroom photography you watch an image appear out of the darkness. And that screen when it's first made and hasn't been stained with ink is a just beautiful.
I get too attached to my screens. But this is why I'm a printer, it brings me unrivalled joy.
I decided for my press pack hand in to make a hand silk screened press pack. It was a days extra work but I think it was worth it.
The tactility of my CV makes it more crafted, more cared about and speaks about the handcrafted, time taking, personal touch of the maker that craft entails.
Printing up some Crafty Praxis merchandise.
As part of the Luddite 200 Festival I did a Make Your Own Huddersfield workshop. It was in an empty council owned building and I got the most beautiful quaint little space. I went in the day before to decorate it will my little models!
After a lot of trials I've started putting my CAD work into actual digital printing. I'm a bit chuffed with how they turned out.
I've started doing lots of work in CAD to do some digital prints. I've been merging my drawings with high resolution scans of textile work such as rag rugs, rug tufting, yarns, weaving and other things that relate to Huddersfield's textile heritage. This is a comment on how Huddersfield stunning architecture was built on a strong textile industry. Because digital printing costs a lot I've been doing a lot of small paper maquettes.
