This morning some exciting news was announced – there may soon be changes to the Taiwan animal testing laws! This is an exciting change because, if passed, this would make Taiwan the first country in its region to ban cosmetics animal testing. What is being proposed is a chance to the Control for Cosmetic Hygiene Act in Taiwan. This proposed change would ban the sale of cosmetics that have been newly tested on animals. This bill also states that this is regardless of the state of alternative tests. If passed, companies would have a three year grace period to comply. If passed, this change in Taiwan would have a greater impact than the recent ban on cosmetics testing in South Korea. #beaglefreedom #crueltyfree

Looking for a great new eyeliner? Look no further! This is Too Faced's Bulletproof 24 Hour Eyeliner.  All of Too Faced's products are cruelty-free and they have vegan options available as well.

This particular shade is called Dirt Bag. It is a beautiful copper color with a bit of built in shimmer. It is paraben-free, waterproof and smudge-proof - the color locks in place within 60 seconds! Use this as a traditional liner, or create a smokey eye effect by using the blending ball at the other end of the pencil. The packaging contains several specific ideas for how to use the pencil to create various looks.

If you haven't purchased anything from Lush before, you are really missing out. Not only do they make some of the absolute BEST fresh, handmade cosmetics, but they are incredibly passionate and vocal about their stance against animal testing, and have been that way for over thirty years! Needless to say, ALL of their products are cruelty free and a large majority of their products are vegan. 

This product is Lush's Lip Scrub. This particular flavor is no longer available (Lush changes their scents frequently), but there are several other fabulous flavors that are available both in stores and online. The lips are an extremely sensitive area of the skin that can often be overlooked. However, they need to be cared for just like every other area of the face. The application of this scrub is super easy - simply lightly rub the product over your lips and then lick off the excess product. (Yes! The scrubs are edible and delicious!) Simple as that! Then follow-up with your favorite lip balm or lip color.

What Does the Safe Cosmetics Act Mean for Animal Testing?

Today I write about a first experience for me, something I have never done before in my long history with makeup. Can you believe that I have never before purchased an eye shadow palette? To be honest, I am not sure why I haven't. Perhaps I naively thought I could match my own eye shadow colors, or perhaps the palettes included colors which I thought weren't quite my style. Whatever the reason, I have been missing out! This is the Natural at Night Neutral Eyeshadow Palette from Too Faced. The creators of Too Faced are Jerrod Blandino and Jeremy Johnson, both of whom have long and successful careers in the beauty industry. They are also animal lovers, and proudly state that all of their products are cruelty-free, and many in fact, are also vegan. 

This particular palette contains colors that can be combined nicely for everyday looks, or can be pumped up for beautiful night out looks. The collection comes with three different inspiration cards that give you ideas for how to combine the colors. The first look is called "Night" and features all three shades on the top row of the kit. The second look is called "Classic" and contains shades in the second row. The third look is called "Fashion" and contains shades in the third row. The best part about this collection, is that there are truly endless ways to mix and match the shades. My current go-to is a combination of all three rows! 

The eyeshadows themselves are extremely silky, easy to blend and wear well all day long.

I just love shopping local! I think it is so important to support businesses that are a part of our local communities. However, sometimes it can be really difficult to find local products that are both local and cruelty-free. During my last trip to my favorite Minneapolis salon, Jaide Organic Salon, I was introduced to a company that is both locally made and cruelty-free. The bonus…they are also vegan! The company is called Ahnesti and they are a line of professional, salon-quality hair care products out of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Their values as a company are inspiring, and totally in line with my own.

My hair stylist immediately recommended this product to me. It is Ahnesti's  Eterniti Refresher Spray. It is a MUCH better alternative to a dry-shampoo. This spray actually removes any dirt and oils from the hair, as opposed to just absorbing them, which is the only thing typical dry-shampoos are able to do. The coconut-derived cleanser not only removes debris, but it adds volume and shine to your hair again. It also contains lavender which makes your hair smell amazing!

Since buying this about a month ago, I have used this very regularly. I like to only shampoo my hair every-other-day, so on the in-between days, I have been using the Refresher Spray. I didn't really know what type of results to expect, since other dry shampoos sometimes provide results that don't last all day long. (My hair will feel great for an hour, and then soon makes me feel like I should have shampooed that morning!) In contrast, the Refresher Spray provides results that last the whole day and then some! I have even used the Refresher Spray the morning after a workout and you would never have even known that my hair was in a sweaty ponytail the night before! My hair was shiny, bouncy and fresh, as if it was "day one" hair!

The application of this product is a bit different than with traditional dry shampoos. You spritz the spray on the specific areas that you feel need refreshing. I typically spritz it on the crown of my head and around edges of my hair by my face. Massage the product in to the hair. Then, as opposed to just letting it set in, you actually blot the product with a dry towel to remove any excess product. If desired, you can also blow dry at this point. I have used this spray both ways - with and without using the blow dryer. Both ways produce the same amazing results! (Have you figured out at this point how much I LOVE this spray?)
