kingsley & molly || burrow help
@motherhenmolls
Kingsley wore black on black on black. Professional robes matched perfectly with black trousers and shiny, black shoes. He was the epitome of pristine as his fist rapped against the door of the Burrow. Magical protective wards lifted for the evening to allow Order of the Phoenix members in; but he knew caution would remain.Â
There was a distant sound of children from within- Bill and Charlie, he believed, laughing as they ran around, entertaining themselves as Molly, no doubt, cooked or cleaned for company while Arthur got everything ready for the meeting.
He was early. It was his way. A helping hand he always offered; whether it be with the kids, with meal prep, with setting up chairs, or offering additional security measures in case the Death Eaters had discovered their meeting date and location.Â
There was a smile on his lips as the door creaked open and Mollyâs face came into view.Â
âEvening, Molly. How are you?â he asked pleasantly. âI hope you donât mind; I came to assist.â
amelia & kingsley || night cap
justameliabones.
A warm feeling spread through her chest as Kingsley was adamant that he would fight for her promotion, if it ever came to that. Ducking her head, a small smile graced her lips, her gaze focusing on him through her lashes. âReally? You would? You think Iâm that good? Coming from you thatâs probably as big of a compliment as I could get, seeing as youâre my superior and all.â It felt good to know that all her hard work wasnât going unrecognized by the people who were essentially her judge and jury.Â
Releasing a soft laugh, she shrugged a shoulder, her lips caressing the edge of the glass as she took another sip. âItâs hard not to be worried about being tipsy in your presence. The last thing I want to do is something ridiculous. After all, itâs important to make a good impression, right? Even if you want me to relax, I donât want to take advantage of your hospitality, even if I do consider us friends as well.â Tilting the drink towards her, she looked down into the glass. âThough this drink is rather addictive.â
Drumming her fingers on the counter, she listened as Kingsley spoke, worrying her bottom lip with her teeth. She knew he was right, she did have an unshaking belief in herself, but sometimes she wondered if perhaps that wasnât as good of a thing as everyone made it out to be. She didnât want to be delusional about how far she could push herself or how far she could go, after all. The important thing was to be realistic about her goals, and thus far there hadnât been that many female Ministers of Magic. But Artemisia Lufkin was her hero, and if she could manage to become the Minister of Magic all the way back in 1798, surely Amelia could become Minister of Magic now.Â
âI suppose, but I just hope I can actually manage. I keep telling everyone I meet my dream of becoming Minister. What if Iâm just jinxing it and all the work I put in by hoping thats the case? After all, I have to be voted into the position. I donât want people to dislike me for that desire or to look at me and think Iâm unworthy,â she said quietly, releasing a sigh. âThereâs still a long way to go and everything I do now will eventually reflect on me then.â
Covering Kingsleyâs hand, she looked across at him sympathetically, nodding her head slowly. âLiving alone can be lonely, I completely understand that,â she murmured, her gaze on his expression. âDonât let that loneliness consume you, though. If you ever need someone to talk to or to go out to dinner with, you know Iâm pretty much always available.â She let out a small laugh, tilting her head to the side. âYouâre a good man, youâll find someone to spend your time with. However, I can assure you a cat is an excellent companion. I probably rely on my own far too much.â
She let out a bright laugh as she thought about Moody with Ms Henderson, fingers pushing hair away from her face. She had to admit, the man could be patient about the most random things. âYouâre right, he is very good at his job. I admire him for his strength, honestly. He intimidated me when I first arrived for Auror training, but I think thatâs important. We face far more intimidating and scary circumstances than Moody yelling at us on a daily basis. Heâs always there for us when we need it, even if he seems distant at times.I wish I could get to know him better.â She knew that might not be possible given the current state of things, but she hoped maybe one day, after working with him for a long time, he would open up to her.
A smile curled her lips and she finished off her own drink, letting out a breath. âWell, in that case, we should probably change that, no? Wouldnât do for you to lose your tolerance for alcohol entirely. Marlene might drink you under the table at one of our social events, and then where will you be?âÂ
âMs. Amelia Bones,â Kingsley began, voice low and soft like silken honey dissolved in a cup of tea, âI would hope I could be considered more than just your superior. I would like to be your friend and mentor- both in and out of work." It was nice to establish personal connections to those he worked with and Amelia, a trainee, was no exception. He shifted back against the barstool and straightened up, his oversized fingers wrapping around the glass of his drink, taking a steady sip.Â
Ameliaâs next set of words confirmed what he proposed and he smiled, releasing a soft and pleased chuckle. âStop trying to impress me, Ms. Bones. You long since have,â he told her quietly. âBut I am not here to force drink upon you. However, I do hope you had more for dinner than I,â he exhaled, puffing up his cheeks with a soft shake of his head. Kingsley had forgotten about dinner in his haste to make it on time to the ritzy whiskey bar. Heâd devoured half of a sandwich heâd packed for an afternoon snack on his way over, but that was hardly enough to sustain a man of his stature. âI am catching a bit of a buzz, I do admit.â On his lips, a permanent grin contorted his face.Â
âYou know, half of all accomplishments begin with belief that you can accomplish,â Kingsley said smoothly. âI believe that almost everything can be controlled by your mind.â A finger tapped against his temple and he smiled. âPain, even, comes from the mind. When you can control your thoughts, you can control your destiny.â He believed in this notion, too. âWhen I was training, I kept a photograph of myself on the wall, you know, one with a taped on image of an Auror badge pinned to my chest. I believe that is a huge reason I was actually pinned. I saw it, I visualized it, I became it. I tell my sisters the same. They must believe in themselves.â One hand brought his glass to his lips and Kingsley took a deep sip while his other pressed her nose playfully. âI think youâre doing the right things, Ms. Bones. It is nice to share your ambitions with others. Just keep doing what you are doing. You are on the right path.â
Midnight eyes caught sight of her hand upon his. It was like yin and yang, light against dark. He chuckled softly and nodded. âI may take you up on the offer. Perhaps we should make a bi-weekly event of it- invite others along too on occasion. It might be nice to get everyone together outside of work. It could build trust,â he mused. Every year, Kingsley Shacklebolt made it a point to bring the entire office out around the holidays. He would pay the tab, and invite everyone to relax for a night of fun together; but he wondered if doing it more regularly would build a better rapport.Â
âPerhaps you can advise me on where to find myself a cat. And you know, general cat-training techniques. Do they require training?â
Kingsley set his glass down with purpose, mentally noting he ought slow down. He did not mind feeling a buzz, but if he consumed much more in a short time, he would feel more than just a buzz.Â
âMr. Moody can be tricky to get to know,â he said quietly. âBut he is a good man. Youâll get there with time, Ms. Bones. I can say, I do believe he has been quite impressed with you thus far. And that is saying something.â
A deep laugh shook his body and he tilted his head. âOh, I am most certain that Ms. McKinnon can outdrink me. I am not ashamed to admit this, either,â he teased, pivoting on his barstool to face her.Â
âDo tell me something about yourself, Amelia. I know all about your work life, but who else are you?â he asked curiously, dark eyes focusing in on her angular face, genuinely curious to listen.

The feeling of his hands on her shoulders always brought comfort, something neither of them would say no to in that moment. They needed to be strong, to show that no matter how horrible the situation was, they had their heads on straight and were doing everything within their power to bring these people to justice.
Returning his smile, she nodded. âDetail by detail so we can piece it together rather than speculate. I remember the lecture.â The light laugh that came with her words still felt out of place, but it was a start towards normalcy and focus.
âYes sir. If there is anything else you need, let me know. Iâll go fill in the others. Weâll get those bastards sooner rather than later.â She was surprised herself by her strong language, especially in front of a superior, and she was infinitely glad it was Kingsley, and not Moody, that she was taking to. Nodding again, Alice made her way back out to see who had arrived.

đ At the mention of the manâs sisters, Xeno couldnât help but grin widely. âSisters? I-â he stuttered, shrugging a little bit. âI have a sister too. She is fourteen.â He still received his sistersâ owls each Christmas, he still remembered her smile, and he still wanted to see her so badly. And perhaps thatâs what he shouldâve done, but he didnât want to, because it was way too dangerous for them.
âI canât possibly know.â Xeno grinned, preparing to pay for himself and the little cactus in his hand. âBut look, we are all extraordinary.â he simply said, smiling while looking down at the plant.
âWell, itâs not that I donât like any, I donât like the most. Perhaps the Control of Magical Creatures, but yet again I am not yet sure if I would fit in any form of organized day.â It was a fact, that Xenophilius Lovegood and âorderâ were two words, that never fit together. âBut maybe one day we will be Ministry colleagues, who knows?â
âOne of mine is also fourteen,â Kingsley replied carefully. Ava, Wadjet, and Medineh were his top priority and as a result, during times of war, he found himself rarely speaking of them. He typically kept a distance when they were brought up, unless he fully trusted his conversation partner. The last thing he needed was someone to find out about them, about their relation to Kingsley, and use them as some sort of sick bait to find out about the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. These were ugly thoughts, but he knew that preparing was crucial as it was quite possible. These people were sick and would not hesitate to use innocent victims for their own gain.
He was handed an oversized bag stuffed with bath goods and Kingsley was grateful, it now being far easier to carry all of his purchases.
âI do hope so, good sir,â Kingsley replied with a genuine smile. âThank you for your suggestions. I am sure I will enjoy them immensely.â He held up the bag, showing what he was referring to, and with a smile stepped away to allow Xeno room to pay for his own. âI will see you around, I am certain.â

Watching the paper intently, her heart fell when the spell caused it to disintegrate and reform. This was highly skilled magic, with knowledge of what the Ministry would try to do. This group was skilled, smart and incredibly dangerous, and Aliceâs suspicion that their own were involved were only heightened by the reaction the letter had to the tracer.
She still could not figure out why anyone from the office, or Order for that matter, would want to do something like this. Typically, most of the people in the office defended their actions, not wanting to resort to violence, though she knew a fair few disagreed.
She let out a small, humorless laugh at his words. Clever. That was not a word she would have used to describe them. Terrifying was the one she would never admit that she used. It was quite obvious that both of their minds were reeling, but neither wanted to say a word.
Alice nodded, grateful for having orders, and not having to sit around and wonder what to do next. âYes sir. Iâll go see whoâs here, and who we have to summon again. They could very well still be asleep.â Nodding again, she offered him a small smile. âIt was the right thing to do. Iâll see my family soon enough. Iâm just sorry you all had to be ripped away from yours like this.â
Kingsley wore a smile like a crown; the victor in this heavy moment of horror coupled with pride. An Auror and member of the noble, elite Order of the Phoenix, Kingsley Shacklenbolt was not a man to surrender hope even when faced with violent, seemingly impossible opposition.Â
Two strong hands rested on Aliceâe petite shoulders in an attempt to ground and reassure the young Auror-to-be. He smiled, his plump lips curling upwards as midnight eyes kept contact with hers. She was so lovely and humble, a girl with a big heart and plenty of talent and the ambition to soar her to all of the successes she could ever possibly dream up.
âThank you,â he repeated, firmly this time. âI assure, it will be okay, Ms. Prewett. Do not worry about anything but the task in each, passing moment. Do not think about the bigger picture just yet. When we all work together, we work stronger, better.â He eyed her carefully, his head tilted to the side as brows furrowed in a vague concern. âNow go on. Iâll figure everything out.â

A dread had filled her, taking root in her bones and growing by the certainty that Kingsley had spoken with.
This was another threat â and unlike the Death Eaters, she couldnât see the purpose behind their violence. It wasnât an age old desire to keep bloodlines pure and traditions as sacred, but something new. Something unknown and unaccounted for. Unpredictable in ways that were frightening, and she was sure he was right. This wouldnât be an easy war.
ââŚIt feels like theyâre one move ahead of us no matter how hard we work.â Like the soft snow that covered the ground in a blanket of white, Aversio seemed to have ways of covering their tracks that rivaled that of the Death Eaters. It was frustrating, and she could sympathize with the resentment that lay in Kingsleyâs normally calm tone. Her own need for neutrality sorely tested with this new enemy.
Considering his revelation, she paused for a moment. Trying to worm through the complicated mess of emotions and knowledge that was pushing to the foreground of her mind. And as much as she wanted to go confine herself to a book of potions and figure out what had killed the Minister, she knew that it wouldnât do much to help them in the present. âIt doesnât even seem like their end goal is the same as ours â not with the way theyâre targeting purebloods. It feels like theyâre after bloodshed. An eye for an eye, as the saying goes.â
Pulling her scarf tighter around herself, Ophelia followed after the Auror, although her head tilted back for one final glance at the ministerâs prone body. A symbol of destruction even amongst all the graves that filled the space. There was something haunting about it, and she was sure it wasnât an image either of them would easily forget.
âYou ought to go home before the meeting.â She insisted finally, her gaze falling to rest on the manâs dark eyes, sure that she couldnât pull him away from his sisters even though she enjoyed talking to Kingsley. He was competent, wise in areas she was not, and it was fascinating to hear his thoughts on the wizarding world. But it was Christmas, and although the holiday didnât matter much to her, she knew it did to others. âBe with your family before you have to confront this once more.â
A pressing thought permeated the back of Kingsley Shackleboltâs mind since the moment Aversio popped their heads up. They wanted the Death Eaters gone and claimed the Ministry and, in turn, the Order of the Phoenix were not doing enough. Was it possible that some Aversio members also overlapped with the Ministry? With the Order? Could they be a part of both? What did that mean? These were thoughts he did not share for Kingsley knew the dangers of spreading rumors that had no evidence, but he could not help think it again as they stared at the Ministerâs body.
âIt seems that is precisely what this group is trying to achieve,â Kingsley replied honestly. âAn eye for an eye, however, will only make the whole world blind. I only wish everyone could see that. I suppose only time will tell where this goes. But I know none of us will go done without a fight. It is shaping up to turn quite brutal, this war, Ms. Pomfrey, and I am quite worried about the fate of our people.âÂ
His sisters were disappointed when he left and Kingsley wondered how they were holding up now, with Aileen keeping them company as though they were her own. She was a godsend, really. He swallowed tightly.
âMaybe you are right,â he said calmly. âWould you like to join?â Of course, most had plans on Christmas that involved their own families, but he wanted to genuinely extend the invitation. âIt will just be me and a bunch of girls. Aileen is a phenomenal cook. Of course, that is if you have no other plans.â
cyrus & kingsley || illicit trades

â âOpen minds are malleable,â Cyrus replied shortly, giving the large man a meaningful look. âKnowing your own mind and your own thoughts and desires is the only way to manage success. If you are easily swayed, then you become nothing more than a puppet. The sad consequence of which is prevalent within our society. I am certain you have seen that first hand.â His gaze scoured the dark features of the man before him, his smooth skin showing how much care he put into his own personal appearance. It was certainly an aspect of him that he could appreciate.
Narrowed eyes dissected the man before him, a sneer pulling at his features once he revealed his association with the Ministry. âOf course, you do. Why else would a man of your stature enter my shop if it was not Ministry related. The only other option was bounty hunter, but you seem far too gentle for that.â With an exaggerated sigh, he calculated in his mind if it would be worth turning tail and exiting the other manâs presence, but he was curious now. He was invested in finding out what this man desired from him. If he had information, it could be worth his time to find it out. After all, it was important to stay one step ahead when one occupied Knockturn Alley.
âFeel what, exactly?â Cyrus quipped in response, his gaze surveying the surroundings once more. He saw nothing but the miniature town for what it was: a hole in the wall. Not that he had anything against these types of locations. In all his travels, he often found the most innocent and nondescript places were typically the ones that held the greatest, most dangerous treasures. Â
The spices in the air tickled his senses, and he had to admit, he was rather famished, having skipped his afternoon tea in favor of closing a sale.Â
He sauntered along besides Kingsley, observing as he hugged the hostess. He had to wonder just how often this man came here. It was either that or he was maddeningly friendly. Giving his best polite smile, given the circumstances, he inclined his head towards the woman.
âI do appreciate your hospitality,â he drawled, lifting her hand, pressing a kiss to the back of it before walking along.Â
His gaze swept upon the seating arrangements, his hand waving in dismissal as he threw himself down on the seat, crossing his legs. Arching a brow at his companion, he lifted a shoulder, gesturing for him to join him.
âThis will do just fine. Now, how about you tell me what this is about?â
It was almost as if this man was looking to get a rise out of Kingsley; but Kingsley merely smiled with a low, full-bodied chuckle. âYou are a man of your convictions, sir, and I find that an admirable, if not an occasionally frustrating trait,â he replied honestly. Something about this man, this shop, this atmosphere simply tickled him and Kingsley could not help himself but to laugh lowly.Â
Two, oversized hands rose in surrender, his eyes sparkling in amusement. âIt appears that the world is against you, huh?â he replied, absolutely entertained by the manâs paranoid accusations. âAs you have it, Iâm not currently on the clocks, so this impromptu trip is for my own, sheer, relentless curiosity. The Sorting Hat was torn on just where I belonged, you know. Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw.â Kingsley shook his head with a slight laugh. âI am both my parents all in one, it would seem.â
Kingsley exhaled a long sigh through parted lips as his arms rose, nearly embracing the atmosphere around them. âIt cannot be explained, Mr. Borgin. I suppose itâs something you have to feel from within, for yourself,â he replied jovially. âBut, I must admit, I am, perhaps, biased about this particular locale.âÂ
They found their seat away from other diners and Kingsley moved quite slowly, not in any particular rush to get to the point of just why he asked Cyrus here in the first place. It was of his own interest to learn about people. Had he been born in the Muggle world, Kingsley would have made an astounding psychoanalyst. People were funny creatures of habit and there was nothing he enjoyed more than getting to know the things about them that made them tick. This man, in particular, piqued his interests.
He already knew what it was that he wanted, the menu entirely memorized to his conscious, and his midnight eyes instead focused on Cyrusâs face.Â
âCyrus. It is a Persian name, yes?â he asked, a smile on his lips as he blatantly ignored Cyrusâs inquiry. âBut what is your descent?âÂ

There was a part of Alice that hated that they were in a professional setting rather than an Order setting. Here, everything had to be so formal, leaving her unable to truly understand how she could comfort others without crossing a boundary to the personal. She was still so new to the job, and was not entirely sure how to handle everything that was happening, though she would never dare show Kingsley that.
Shaking those thoughts from her head, she tried her best to harden her reserve. Sure, there was plenty to be upset about, but more importantly, they had a job to do.
Listening to his words, she nodded, not letting her emotions cloud her judgement as much as when she first walked into the office. This was another training session for her, of how to keep her emotions and her job separate. âOf course, sir. Where would you suggest the best place to start it, once we put tracers on this letter?â
âDonât say that. Do not put the blame on yourself. The blame falls on these people who thought they are above the law, and have the right to take another personâs life,â she said rather passionately, as she always had gotten heated when talking about Aversio, but now that had developed into a burning hatred of these people. If she had anything to say about it, all members to that group would be spending the rest of their lives in Azkaban.
It was rare that he sought comfort in a trainee rather than a superior, but it was Christmas and his sisters were opening their messily-wrapped gifts purchased with his Auror paycheck without him. Even the strongest, most level-headed could feel searing frustration from time to time. Midnight eyes relaxed as Alice reminded him of the criminals behind this act and he nodded calmly.Â
With one wave of his wand, Kingsley performed the tracing spell. He watched as the paper magically soared a few feet off the desk and glowed a bright blue before disintegrating and reforming to its original state.
âClever bunch,â he sighed. In all his years on the job, he had seen a handful of tracers work correctly and an even greater handful send them on some wild goose chase before they eventually lead them to the criminals. This time, the tracer didnât work at all meaning that there was possible Ministry involvement in Aversio. It worried him, but he did not vocalize this. There were too many things to consider right now; the Ministerâs fate of top priority.
There was a change in the static surrounding them and to Kingsley, it was an indicator that more of the department members had arrived.
âAlright, Ms. Prewett. Please, debrief our trainees and hit squad. I will talk to Mr. Moody,â Kingsley said softly. âItâs going to be okay. Thank you for owling me and being here today. I am sure there are places youâd rather be.â
The Shacklebolts
Nenet Shacklebolt [FC- Vivica Fox]; the matriarch, b. 31 August 1929, d. 3 May 1968.     No family is complete without a matriarch. Nenet Shacklebolt was a free-spirit. She loved her children, but loved her life as well. She had no fear. The Egyptian-born woman migrated to the United Kingdom at the age of seven and integrated easily with English-Muggle culture. She was never afraid of people. Her first child was born when Nenet was only 18, having barely crossed the graduation stage at Hogwarts. A Hufflepuff, she gave many of her calm, open-minded traits to her firstborn. She died in the early days of Tom Riddleâs rise to power. The Shacklebolts, a strong, Pureblood family with global ties, were appealing to the Dark Lord. Their rejection of his invitation offended him and Nenet, with her husband, were murdered.
Jaspar Shacklebolt [FC- Idris Elba]; the patriarch, b. 19 September 1926, s. 3 May 1968. Â Â Â Â A well-spoken man who chose his words carefully, Jaspar took his time with each of his children. He was absolutely, fully in love with his wife, a woman he met on holiday in Wizarding France. Although she was, like him,Pureblood, he didnât care about her background. The two made love beneath the stars almost every night of that holiday before Nenet returned to Hogwarts, pregnant. Several years her senior, he did his best to create a stable life, but it was the Pureblood Shacklebolt fortune and his own motherâs open-mind that allowed the young couple to flourish. He worked hard and instilled that in his first born. A Ravenclaw, he encouraged his children to explore their creativities and passions. Their next three came later in life, shortly before their untimely and arguably heroic death.
Kingsley Shacklebolt [FC- Sinqua Walls]; the first born. b. 13 August, 1947. Â Â Â Â Â The happy surprise; he was never planned for his parents barely knew one another when Nenet became pregnant. Still, Kingsley felt their love surround him at every moment of his life. An only child until the age of fifteen, he was his parents pride and joy. It was when Kingsley was twenty that both of his parents were murdered and when Medineh was still taking the breast. Not wanting his sisters to be separated and yearning for consistency, he took over as their primary caretaker. With the help of a live-in nanny, Kingsley raised his sisters as he completed Auror training. Like his mother, he was a Hufflepuff with a kindness to his child-rearing. Like his father, he worked tirelessly and passionately.Â
Ava Shacklebolt[FC- Amandla Stenberg]; the second born. b. 2 January 1962.      She had a fire about her from the second she was born. Whimsical and with her head always in the clouds, Ava was an easy-Hufflepuff. She was only six when her parents were murdered, but her older brotherâs care and love nearly made up for the immense loss.Â
Wadjet Shacklebolt [FC- Yara Shahdi]; the third born. b. 11 May 1964.       Quiet and reserved, she is a striking resemblance to a father she barely knew. Wadjet lost her parents just days before her forth birthday. A Ravenclaw, she works hard and studies harder. She is the one Kingsley worries about the least; with a bright head on her shoulders and a strong moral-compass, she will take on the world head first.Â
Medineh Shacklebolt [FC- Skai Jackson]; the baby. b. 19 August 1967.       Outspoken and stubborn, Medineh was always a curious girl who pushed boundaries. The lone Gryffindor of the family, she is the most recent to enter Hogwarts. Only nine months when her parents past, Medineh has only truly known the love of her siblings and nanny, which was just enough to make this girl strong and independent.
ava & isabella || caught off guard
isabellagreengrass.
Everybody who knew Isabella Greengrass was well aware that under normal circumstances nothing in this world would have ever managed to make her visit a shop - or rather a sad excuse of a shop - like this. At least not if she didnât have a plan. And that was precisely the situation right now. She had kept an eye on Kingsley and his family for a few days by now, had kept their house under constant observation. Now the spell she had lied on the house had told her that one person had left it which she had seen as a reason to follow that person and track him or her down. And this was precisely what had brought her to that disgusting shop.
Apparently reading some labels on a bottle of milk, the brunette attentively eyed the little girl who so carelessly roamed the shop as if there wasnât a war going on outside, as if she wasnât in constant danger, especially considering that she was the little sister of a well-known auror. Sure, she was quiet, but every trained predator wouldnât have the slightest problem to make her out. And Isabella definitely didnât. When she was sure that the cashier - the only other person in the shop besides them - wasnât paying any attention to them, she swiftly bridged the distance between the girl and her before she already placed her hand on her mouth and thus muffling any sounds she could make. âIf I were you, I would stay quiet and not try to flee if you donât want me to hurt youâ, she whispered in her hear before she disapparated.
The next thing that showed up in front of them was the flat she had rented simply for this occasion. One of the many perks of being rich. Carelessly she pushed little Shaklebolt away from her further into the room before she cast a âmufflatioâ spell. After all, nosey neighbors who wanted to check where any screaming might come from werenât in her best interest right now. âSo, sweetie, we can do this either the easy or the hard way, itâs totally up to you.â
It was easy to lull her herself into a false sense of security. Ava, a girl of sixteen, had up until recently found herself in the safe-haven that was Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Even with the request students stay for the holidays, she never once questioned her own safety with Kingsley for a brother.Â
But that false sense of security was entirely obliterated now as a petite but strong hand covered her mouth and she was gone. In an instant, the underage witch was pulled through the tight, uncomfortable sensation of disapparation. It was but an instant later that they landed, her feet unsteady as the stumbled forward, barely catching herself as the woman shoved her inside a small flat.
   Who was this witch?
âI-I-I-â Ava stuttered, her beautiful, dark eyes wide with fear. Her brotherâs calming voice intercepted her thoughts; heâd prepared them, in a way, for something like this, though she had not recognized it at the time. Kingsley was subtle like that, always giving advice and speaking in hushed tones about things the sisters Shacklebolt would not understand until thrust into such a situation. She had to remain calm but firm for panic, heâd said, caused chaos. âI donât know who you are or what you want. Maybe-- Maybe-- you can t-talk to my brother. Iâm sure he can help you.â

đ Xenophilius certainly noticed the way, that the other man spoke like. It was well thought out and strategic, which only signed little plus marks in the blondeâs book. Despite the man being a lot older than himself, Lovegood figured he was interesting enough to stick to. âSo you have children? Or do you refer to siblings?â Xeno would never ask, if he didnât like children as much as he actually did. His little sister was the one thing that made his choice of distancing away from his family seem like a bad idea, but seeing other children, who reminded him of her was happening more often than expected.
âOh, Iâve accepted them long ago. I donât anyone define me by that. Let them remember me, yâknow?â Xeno grinned, looking to the noticeably taller man. âDo you have any oddities? Despite obsession for bath products, though this is definitely not something I consider odd.â
âThe Ministry?â It wasnât that Xeno disliked all the Departments of the Ministry. In fact, he was quite intrigued into some of them, but some he despised and did not agree with, so perhaps asking which field the man was working in was not an appropriate question. âJust curious. I myself am fascinated by some of the Departments present there.â
âI have sisters,â Kingsley replied calmly. âThree. Theyâre sixteen, fourteen, and eleven now.â A sense of deep pride rang through his tone for they were his pride and his joy. In a sense, they were his as much as they were their late parents. Heâd been there for a greater part of their upbringing, and for Medineh, he was all she had ever known.Â
Kingsley shrugged a monstrous shoulder, his entire stature rising and falling with the action. âI do not believe so,â he replied. âBut normal is subjective. My normal, I am certain, is quite different than anyone elseâs normal, is it not?â A pink tongue glossed over his lips as he moved around the stranger to set down the jars and bottles, his hand reaching for the wallet tucked safely in the inner pocket of his robes to pay for the products.
âThere are many departments,â Kingsley replied calmly as he smiled at the cashier; a petite blonde woman with wispy hair. Meek and uncertain, she returned his smile, undoubtedly wondering what a man like Kingsley Shacklebolt was doing purchasing a multitude of sweetly scented bath products. âI would be unimpressed if it was found none of the departments interested you. It is quite a varied environment with offices that could suit any interest.â

Furrowing her brows, Amelia glanced over at Kingsley, parting her lips to respond to him before closing her mouth again. She knew he was right, of course, but being an Auror was her largest defining feature in her mind. It was that battle she had always felt herself fighting, one for what was right and fair. âOf course Iâm more than just an Auror, Iâm a friend and a sister tooâŚand yes, in the Order. I just feel as though what defines me the most is my desire for justice. Is it wrong to see myself that way? To focus on that? I just want to do what is right for a better world.â    Looking down into the drink, she took another deep sip as Kingsley described it to her, shrugging her shoulder. âAll I know is that this is dangerous. It tastes nothing like alcohol and Iâm libel to get really drunk off of it,â she teased, letting out a laugh. Sipping it again, she looked across at him gratefully, finding it amusing that somehow heâd known her tastes. âThank you. As much as whiskey is an alright drink this tastes so much better.â    Swirling the liquid in the glass she placed it down on the counter, her azure gaze settling on Kingsleyâs kindly features. She didnât understand how it was that he always knew the right thing to say to people, that he always was there to assist. She imagined it probably had to do with raising so many sisters, but she really believed that it was just part of who he was. She wished she had the same calming ability, but she doubted she could ever give off such an aura.    "You know, itâs funny you should say that, because I tell people those kinds of things all the time. Itâs just⌠it doesnât really work for me. I donât know, maybe some part of my brain is just hardwired to push myself to my limits. To see how far I can go. Most of my life, thatâs what I have done. No one thought I could enter the Auror program. No one thought I was strong enough or smart enough to carry this kind of burden, but Iâve proved them all wrong,â she stated, her hand slapping down flat against the bar top. "I suppose now that I have it, I donât want anyone to ever look at me again and see me as weak or useless. I donât want to mess up and cost lives. I donât want to allow anyone to not have the justice they deserve. Maybe I should be doing other things to push forward my happiness, but knowing that Iâve done something to help someone is the most incredible feeling in the entire world.â    She glanced across at Kingsley softly, some part of her feeling for his plight. It was the experience all people had when their kids grew up, she imagined, that feeling of having an empty nest where it was once flourishing with life. She wondered if perhaps that was why he was so focused on helping others of late; if he was trying hard to mask that feeling of loss.    "Iâm sure they are doing well,â she said lightly, picking up her drink again, taking a petite sip before licking her lips of remaining flavor. "Though really, they should write you. At least to let you know that they are getting on so well. I remember when I went to school I wrote my parents every single week until they had to tell me to stop sending owls so often.â She looked sheepish, shaking her head.    Blinking, Amelia watched as Kingsley pushed hair away from her face, a small smile on her lips at the involuntary action. She appreciated that he felt comfortable enough with her to be himself without walls.    "Thank you, I appreciate that. I donât need you to look out for me, but itâs nice to know that someone has my back. Iâm mostly just sad that whoever did this felt they had to stoop so low. I hope it doesnât ruin the case,â she admitted, shrugging a shoulder, knowing there wasnât much she could do but try to restore the files when she returned.    "Moody is⌠moody, actually. Itâs really quite an apt name for him, isnât it? I hear him shouting all the time from where my office is. I sometimes wish I could put up sound barriers,â she said with a laugh, looking sheepish as she realized what that probably sounded like. âNot that I mind, I appreciate heâs so passionate about his job. Itâs rather inspiring, actually.â
âAbsolutely not, Ms. Bones. Do not mistake my words as negative criticisms,â Kingsley replied calmly. His entire head tilted with concern to meet her eyes. âYou worry me sometimes, but I do admire your convictions more than I could say. I will fight for you to rise in ranks if I have to, but I do believe youâll do just fine on your own.âÂ
Kingsley was no lightweight; his metabolism and sheer size absorbed alcohol slowly through his bloodstream; but tonight, the top shelf whiskey created the tiniest semblance of a buzz deep in his cerebral cortex.
A chuckle shook through his body and Kingsley managed a half smile along his plump lips. âIf drunk is not what you want to be, Iâll tell the bartender to slow it down if I start to notice a difference in your demeanor,â Kingsley promised. âBut if you are afraid of being tipsy in my presence, please donât be. I am the one who ordered you to relax and take time off; and this is a part of that.âÂ
There was a genuineness to her tone and Kingsley smiled as she spoke. Proving people wrong was, perhaps, the best feeling in the world. It was certainly a driving point in motivation. Raising his sisters had been no easy feat and a part of him was proud because he knew many believed he would not succeed.
âThat is merely proof that you believe in yourself,â Kingsley replied softly. âWhich is, quite possibly, the most important thing you can believe in, Ms. Bones. Many people struggle with such a notion, particularly if they have been fed negativity from those around them. If others donât believe in you, it is quite simple to fall into that-- pattern. Of disbelief in yourself. It speaks to your character that youâve overcome that. It shows me what I already known about you. You are capable and will do whatever it is youâd like to accomplish. And I know that you know that as well.â
It was easy to understand his sisters when he knew them so well. They were busy laughing and socializing, spending time with newfound friends and completing assignments. Their lack of communication did not offend him; but he was lonely and he would be lying if he tried to deny himself of this emotion. Fighting negative feelings caused repression that would eventually explode and that was not something of which Kingsley wanted to face. He dealt with things as they came.
âI cannot fault them for being themselves. I think I just need another companion,â he admitted quietly. âA cat, perhaps. My live in nanny has also left me for Ireland; of course, I was the one who told her she was now free to go about her life. It isnât as though I need her, not in the way the girls did. But--â He stopped himself there, his dark gaze distant with consideration. âAnyway, I suppose I will adjust in time. At least the holidays are nearly upon us.â
Kingsley finished off his first drink and set the glass on the bar with a soft thud. Ice clinked against the sides of the glass and he twirled his finger along the rim.Â
âOh, you have that right,â Kingsley replied with a deep laugh. âHe is certainly moody, but gods, I admire the manâs ability to keep a straight face even when that elderly woman, Ms. Henderson, comes in and relentlessly complains to him about the mistreatment of crups. I feel for him. She blames him for everything. It is quite amusing to bear witness to, I must say.â In his pause, Kingsley rose a single finger to the bartender for his own second round. His back stretched straight, popping sore joints with a twist of his head.Â
âDo you believe, I have not drank more than one cocktail in a sitting since I was in my early twenties?â Kingsley asked. âI just didnât have the time and wanted to maintain mental clarity for the girls. But-- I guess I donât have to worry about that anymore.â
