i am fundamentally not an isterik fan (and am in fact pretty vehemently opposed to viewing their relationship as a normal consensual and healthy one) but the nature of this website means that i will encounter many isterik fans. that is fine, but if you can’t handle discussions of istvan as an abuser + erik as a victim of CSA and, like, schrodingers incest, you’re probably not going to have a good time on my blog.
i personally find it incredibly difficult to interpret istvan and eriks relationship as anything other than a textbook case of grooming and sexual abuse. i do think istvan loved him and cared about him, and i do think that erik’s adoration for istvan informs many if not all of the choices he makes. i also think that it’s not great that erik’s family was murdered when he was a young boy by istvan (likely when erik was around the ages of 11-12), who then positioned himself as a father figure to him while indoctrinating him into a violent way of life and desensitizing him to more and more extreme forms of violence while also starting a sexual relationship with him. i see a lot of my own experience as a sexual abuse survivor reflected in erik’s characterization, and i won’t lie and say that doesn’t inform my interpretation, but i think it’s dishonest to say that the implications aren’t there (see: freud achievement in kcd1).
anyways point being i think eriks CSA swagger is unmatched. ok bye!
