Plot Synopsis has updated!
Aeverwylde has officially entered spring! All NPCs and Player characters have aged up 1 Moon, and the normal and seasonal shops have been updated, as well as the synopsis of the plot so far.
hi, very excited for a possible opening! curious, how active is the server community? are there group-wide discussion channels?
KoA has honestly been a little slow as we introduce new mods to the server to help keep things more active! And as for your second question, all the kingdoms can be viewed by all players, as characters that are over the age of 6 seasons are permitted to journey to different kingdoms! (it also keeps everyone in the loop regarding lore, spicy plot updates, ect) We have group and non-group related channels for players to chat in and hang out :) We highly encourage players to talk with and rp amongst one another, as players are viewed as Main Characters of the plots they decide to partake in, along with the overarching plot of the world!
A handful of some of our NPCs from all over Aeverwylde!
Where to find us.
Our NPC gallery is located on dA! Please go check out all our lovely NPCs https://www.deviantart.com/koaadmin/gallery The group page on dA has all the necessary info as well! https://www.deviantart.com/kingdomsofaeverwylde
Queen Yilmi and her faithful familiar Slither
The Plot So Far
𝒲𝑒𝓁𝒸𝑜𝓂𝑒
This world is ruled by the three Kingdoms, Willowshire, Corvidos, and Stormrun.
For four generations, the three Kingdoms have coexisted peacefully, and continue to maintain bonds be it through friendship, or mere courtesy. War is an ugly, messy endeavor, and it seems everyone wants to do what they can to avoid it. There are some, however, lurking in the shadows, and plotting their schemes of unrest, and chaos. A nation in war is far easier to overthrow, after all...
In the most recent moons, the betrothal of Young Princess Yilmi, and Crown Prince Ralleh has been announced! Everyone seems elated, especially the King and Queen of Corvidos, who have been unable to conceive other children since their eldest sons birth.
Now the two Kingdoms of Willowshire and Corvidos are alight with activity. Both cities are buzzing, as the Prince is soon to visit his bride to be, and the whole of the town is decorated beautifully in flowers, and silk. It has been some generations since the last time two of the royal families came together in matrimony, so it's a pretty big deal.
꧂
Prince Ralleh and his party arrived at the kingdom just in time for the Fertility Festival, and despite word from Stormrun prior, Princesses Thilia and Veroh also appeared for the festivities. As well, the princesses announce formally of their mothers pregnancy.
The events go decently, with Yilmis guard Ylva finding himself particularly lucky being matched with Princess Veroh in a couples matchmaking event. No doubt the rest of the Stormrun royals have heard of him by now.
Meanwhile at the castle, things brew behind the scenes. Queen Orai is up to her usual antics, while Taldac struggles to balance his duty to his apprentice, and his duty to his Queen.
Ralleh and Yilmi have finally met, and things seem... Good? The two are still a bit awkward, however, they seem to get along. The rest of the holiday goes by with relative ease.
Now the new Stormrun prince Worrehn has been born; the Corvidos caravan has returned with Yilmi in towe, and, Queen Orai has announced her own pregnancy.
The news leaves the King and Queen of Corvidos anxious to get the marriage underway, though, it seems Ralleh is doing his best to keep things on a more lenient schedule, as spring shifts into summer and new chapters are beginning to unfold.
꧂
The summer heat blazes before waning into the cool airs blowing from the west, signaling the beginning of Autumn. The colours of tree leaves begin to change, and animals fatten themselves in preparation for the colder months ahead.
Orai has given birth to twins! Prince Orobos and Princess Talynn. The Kingdom rejoices, however there are those who question the kittens parentage. These rumors aren't uncommon, however the appearance of the new princess has made these rumors harder to ignore. The Kings brother Morucio has finally found a bride, and is expecting kits of his own! Marrying the new brewmaster of the Willowshire Inn, Figly, the two make a handsome couple.
In Corvidos the prince can no longer stall, and King Grukar has set a hard date for the wedding between him and princess Yilmi. The mines are in full swing, putting in more hours to get what materials they can before the start of Winter, when the rock becomes too hard to work with. Some families seem overtired, however, the prospect of the royal wedding continues to keep the spirits alive in Corvidos. Yilmi has quickly become well liked by the commonfolk, and while her altruism served her well in Willowshire, the upper crust of Corvidos find her generosity and good faith in the common drab to be unbecoming.
꧂ Autumn rolls through the kingdoms without much news, or rather, nothing outwardly obvious. Things were brewing in both castles, as they prepared for the royal wedding. In Corvidos, Prince Ralleh has revealed his secret to Halburg, that being... He was gay. He hadn't been able to tell his parents before the royal deal fell into place, leaving Ralleh, and Yilmi, stuck in a situation only one of them seemed happy to partake in. Speaking of the princess, she only grows more elated as days go by, happier than ever knowing that soon she would be wed to the prince of her dreams. When the wedding arrives, it's a dreamlike affair. Besotted in the light of stained glass windows and the soft sound of music, everyone in attendance was enthralled by the dreamlike occasion. But it didn't last. When Yilmi and Ralleh are crowned the new King and Queen, rumbles began to occur, before explosions broke out. Luckily no one was killed, but a few were left with scars. Now, part of Corvidos castle was in ruin, and no one knew what exactly had caused such an event, no one had seen anything like it before. As everyone tries to figure out what happened, and the strange smelling blasts, the new King and Queen are now faced with the challenge of rebuilding the castle during winter... It looks like it will be an especially slow, and cold one this year. ꧂ As Autum rolls into Winter, it seems that all of the Kingdoms begin to hunker down. Everyone minds their own business in the cold, it seems. During this year, at least. However. as the icy cold wind blew through the openings in the destroyed parts of Corvidos Castle, Ralleh was hard at work on the repairs, while Yilmi dealt with the people of Corvidos; offering her assurance and sunlight in order to calm the spirits of the people. The attack on the royal wedding was unprecedented, and the newly crowned King and Queen had their paws full with duties, so much so, that the investigation into what had happened began to fall into the wayside... Meanwhile, in Stormrun, it seems as though after the birth of Prince Worrehn, Queen Weruh grew ill, and never truly recovered. As Winter drew to its end, the Queen drew close to her death, and, peacefully, she passed into the wind during the night. As Spring comes to the Kingdoms, Stormrun begins its preparations for the Trial of Heirs in order to choose their next ruler. To Be Added To ℛ𝑒𝒸𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝒶𝓈 𝑜𝒻 December 1st. 2022
FAQ of Aeverwylde
𝓖𝓻𝓸𝓾𝓹 𝓕𝓐𝓠
Q; "Why is KoA 18+?" A; Two main reasons are
1. the inherent problematic themes within the classic fantasy genre and the inspirations of this group and it's underlying plot. (Violence, gore, adultry, substance use, religion, to name a few)
2. I, the creator of the group, am 25. I am understandably more comfortable with only allowing other adults into my group.
Q; "When is the next opening?" A; Hard to say! Openings may be sporadic. Best way to keep up is to watch the group and read the journals when posted! There may be kit tryouts in the future as well! Q; Will each opening have pre-determined occupations people can choose from? (If not, how will prospective members knows which occupations they can have?)
A; Not all of them! However, for tryouts without predetermined occupations, there will be added information for the player to go off of when creating their audition. This information will vary depending on the audition and the current plot. This does not include kit-tryouts, which are their own thing.
Q; "How many characters can I have?" A; Character slots are limited, and for now are still somewhat up in the air. Currently, Members can make a secondary character after a 4 month cooldown, however, Modteam highly recommend holding out on making new characters in case new in-game auditions pop up. This answer will be updated when there is a more solid answer.
Q; "Do characters have to be drawn with clothing?" A; Not really, but it is encouraged!
Q; "How many NPCs are there and how many/which ones can I romance?" A; There are currently 96 NPCs in the KoA roster, and more of them than you think can be romanced. The only way to find out is to shoot your shot. Poly relationships with multiple NPCs are not allowed. This answer will be updated.
Q; "Is there a way to guarantee mutation?"
A; Not at this time, however you can increase your chances at a mutation by having kits with someone who has a mutation, or taking a pre 'designed' surrogate to have your kits. This answer may be updated if things change.
Q; "When player characters have kits, what happens to them? Do they become NPCs or can they be offered for tryout?"
A; It's up to the player associated with the kit(s)! As litters are generally 1-3 (1 being most common and 3 being very rare), I would assume most will offer them for tryouts first and foremost! NPCing a kit will give their RP responsibilities to a mod if you allow it, otherwise, the kit will pass away so as to not clog up the NPC roster with no utility. (Surrogates already do that.) If you decide to allow a mod to RP your NPCd kit, the design will be fully returned to you along with any accumulated art if they're featured in plot events upon closure of the group or that characters death.
Q; "Why is the stat system like that?"
A; It is easier for both players and mods, and removes the tedium of a leveling system and HP system which would only get in the way of the more rp and discovery oriented experience the group is aspiring for.
𝓓𝓲𝓼𝓬𝓸𝓻𝓭 𝓕𝓐𝓠
Q; "Who can I interact with?"
A; When making your character, you will be associated with an NPC. You may RP with that NPC freely as much as you wish! To unlock other characters to RP with, you have to encounter them at the Random Encounter Desk. Traveling Merchants can only be encountered through rolls.
Q; "When submitting an RP, do I count the entire wordcount, or just my character?" A; You only need to count your characters words for rp submissions. Do not count the NPC wordcount in your submissions please <3
Q; "How does combat work?"
A; Combat is a fast paced roll vs roll endeavor, with no real rp going on for the sake of brevity. Player and Mod will roll 1d12 to determine the first attack, and things will play out from there.
Q; "Can I post rumors?"
A; Yes! You can post rumors in whatever kingdom your character is currently in.
Q; "Will you ever utilize Tupperbot?"
A; No, there are no current plans to implement Tupper, as the NPC roster is pretty massive, and will be changing as the group continues. It would not serve any true purpose other than an added aesthetic, which while nice, is not something I am prioritizing above a smooth player/mod experience.
𝓦𝓸𝓻𝓵𝓭 𝓕𝓐𝓠
Q; "Roughly how do ages work in the world, ie; going from child to teen ect?" A; basically feline age is similar to irl
0 can be anything from a newborn to a young child
1-2 season is childhood
3-4 seasons is adolescence to teenage
5-6 is older teen early adult
7 up to around 20something is adult
20something to 30 is older adult
anything above 30 is considered pretty old, elders aren't as prominent due to their frailty and the lack of advanced medicine within the world
Q; "How do Cross Kingdom marriages work?"
A; Ultimately the couple will have to choose which kingdom they want to live in, or they can choose to become travelers and forgo kingdom ties, which some NPCs may not be keen on if they're well established in their kingdom.
Q; "What is the groups policy on age gaps for ships?"
A; If a character is at minimum 7 seasons (21 months) they are allowed to romance and marry whoever they please. This may come with in world ramifications depending on the circumstances, context, or lackthereof.
Q; "How do apprentices graduate?"
A; Primarily it will happen through roleplaying with your mentor. Some are more strict than others, and most will either just come to believe you're competent enough to graduate, or offer a final test. It very much depends on the mentor.
Q; "What is the levels of loyalty folks have to their kingdom? Can they go as they please, or do certain ones frown upon it?"
A; Most cats hold a relatively strong loyalty to their kingdom, more for the friends, memories, and traditions of their kingdom rather than loyalty to the crown. However, no one really bats an eye at cats moving around from one kingdom to another. Stormrun cats are the least likely to leave their homeland (aside from bards).
Q; "What kind of training to guards go through?"
A; Guards participate in a primarily combat focused 'academy' which is run by senior soldiers and those who have previously protected the royal family. They also learn some basic search and rescue. Most often the guards and soldiers work as a task force, helping construction, dealing with fires, any dire situation or crime is what soldiers and guards are utilized for.
Q; "Are there separate churches for Mother Sun and Mother Moon? What are services like?" A; There is no difference between the religions in Corvidos and Willowshire, only that the cats of Corvidos tend to relate to Mother Moon, and Willowshire cats tend to relate more to Mother Sun. Only Stormrun would be considered its own religion, as they worship both mothers equally, and are the only kingdom which acknowledges Tempest.
~May be updated in the future.~
Character Creation
General;
No gary/mary sues; all characters should have a balance of good and bad traits, and should be able to fail. Your character will not always win, and in some instances failure may be necessary for certain plot developments.
IC =/= OOC . If you have personal issues with either another player, things surrounding your character, ect, please contact Mods/Admin in order to discuss. If there are issues regarding players getting along, Mods/Admin have the right to take whatever action we deem necessary in order to solve the conflict. If conflicts persist despite mod/admin intervention, we hold the right to dismiss one or both parties from the group.
On a related note, no self insert characters are permitted. Self insert characters, while fun, can make the separation of IC and OOC difficult, and can lead to conflict that could otherwise be avoided.
Character histories are subject to mod approval to make sure everyone is on the same page, and in case there may be some tweaks needed! This will help make your characters involvement in the plot more satisfactory and meaningful. We will work to have your character keep to the vision you intended, we just want to make sure you can experience the plot of Aeverwylde to it's full potential!
If you want to make an antagonistic character PLEASE discuss with mods/admin! We are all for a baddie, but discussing it with us will give us the ability to make sure to utilize your ideas to the fullest potential within reason. It may also be the case that we might ask you to wait to bring in the character, as they may be better suited to a future plot! (there might also just b too many baddies at once, this ecosystem cant support that many girlbosses)
First characters may be no younger than 4 seasons and no older than 8 seasons.
Backstories can have some angst, but don't go too wild with it. There will be more than enough opportunity for angst and drama to unfold in the world around your character, so keeping them relatively trauma free might be a good idea.
Appearance;
Cats may not have any of the traits listed on the mutations list. If a trait isn't on the list, it's probably fine to add it to your design, but if you're uncertain please ask in the discord server.
You will be offered the ability to roll for mutation when submitting a character, and it's your choice if you wish to do so.
If your character has a mutation, keep in mind how this will affect them during RP.
Semi-realistic pelt designs only, there are no neon/geometric coat colours or patterns.
Violet eyes are allowed, but can't be neon/too intense.
Cats cannot have 'extreme' sizes. The largest and smallest characters are delegated to NPCs to stop players from competing on who is the biggest/smallest. A description such as 'small' will suffice, as even 'tiny' characters will not be smaller than 'tiny' NPCs, the same goes for 'large' and 'hulking', ect. (The only exception is the teacup persian mutation)
You can design your characters clothing as you wish, though keep in mind their rank, and the clothing and brooch guidelines.
After you've finished creating your character, you're ready to draw their art on the official Application Sheet , as well as fill out their bio! (The necessary basics of which are in the description of the blank application sheet.) Submit them to the player characters folder, and you're golden!
Character bios do not have to be in the dA application, as long as they are easily accessible to staff, and legible, you can use whatever alternative sites you preffer.
Stats and Items
Stats
The stat system in Aeverwylde is a static stat system. This means that the stats you start with are the ones you have forever. Your cats, however, also have two item slots which they can use to hold stat boosting items, or items that can be utilized in action sequences or even rp! The stats are as follows. STR: This stat is how physically strong your character is. AGI: This stat measures your characters speed, and reflexes. CON: This stat is how healthy and resilient your character is to taking damage. CHA: This stat measures your characters charm, or intimidation, as well as common sense. INT: This stat is how smart you are, and how good you are at remembering new information.
Note that your character doesn't strictly have to adhere to these preset and vague meanings, they're just a generalized idea of how your stats are likely to correspond with your characters personality!
You must have one stat of each level from 1 to 5. Below is an example of a finished stat chart with NO item bonuses.
[EXAMPLE] STR: ✦ ✦ ✧ ✧ ✧ 2 AGI: ✦ ✦ ✦ ✧ ✧ 3 CON: ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✧ 4 CHA: ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ 5 INT: ✦ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ 1 || Item 1 ||
|| Item 2||
That's pretty straightforward, but now it's time to discuss how Items come into play!
Items
While generally it's up to players if they even want to use items, they can effect both combat and rp based encounters, and due to only having two slots to work with, it's up to you to optimize your build; be it for trying to talk to a cute villager by raising your CHA and INT, or going on a royal boar hunt, and raising your STR as high as possible!
In the below example, you can see that while this small brooch raises the players charisma, it also has other in world effects, because, if an item is equipped to your character, it is assumed that it's being worn! (Though it is NOT necessary to draw your character wearing their held items, as they will probably change rather frequently.)
However, while brooches are ever so in fashion these days, along with piercings, some might hinder you as well as help! This may be through stats, in world effects, or both! In the below example, the fang piercing certainly does raise your CHA, but if you're trying to be sweet and persuasive, it won't be as effective since the piercing itself is seen as somewhat brutish. However, if you were trying to intimidate someone during an interrogation, you'd be much more effective.
As well, there are some items that are single use! All single use items must be declared at the beginning of the encounter, to make note of its use officially. Being single use, they will be destroyed after the given encounter.
With all that in mind, let's look at a complete stat chart, with item bonuses included!
[Example]
STR: ✦ ✦ ✦ ✧ ✧ 3 AGI: ✦ ✧ ✧ ✧ ✧ +3 CON: ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ 5 CHA: ✦ ✦ ✧ ✧ ✧ 2 INT: ✦ ✦ ✦ ✦ ✧ 4 | | sm cape | | +1 AGI | | custom cuffs | | +1 AGI
You can see that while there's only 1 ✦ in the AGI stat, due to the additional +1's of the two items equipped, this cat now has a +3 bonus to AGI! To indicate a stat effected by an items bonus, the +3 is then underlined. If underlining isn't available, simply bold and italicize
And that's all the basics! Make sure to read the rest of the character creation journals, and have fun building your character! We look forward to having you join the kingdoms!
Time Progression
In KoA characters measure their age by the seasons. So a character born in Spring would be 0 until Summer, at which point they will be considered 1.
There are four seasons in Aeverwylde. Summer, Autumn, Winter, and Spring. Each of them is 3 in game months long, however, in real time every season takes place over the course of two months.
This means that a character born in January (0), by December, would be 5 seasons old, turning 6 the following January.
During the different seasons, different items will become available in the seasonal shops! These shops are temporary, only showing up for the first half of each season irl (every other month.)
As well, there are different holidays celebrated in each season by the different Kingdoms, information on which can be found in the discord. These holidays offer ways for players to earn extra Bits in order to, of course, buy things! There may be other RP related opportunities regarding these holidays as well.
If ever you're uncertain of your characters age, feel free to ask mods, or, check the time progression channel in the discord to math out how long it's been since your character joined.
Marriage, Betrothals, Litters, and Surrogates
Marriage
Romance, dating, and other such things are all commonplace in Aeverwylde, and so it's only natural that marriages will follow. However, Marriages can also be arranged through betrothals, for status, or politics. Those who aren't bound by betrothals generally marry out of love though.
Processions can be grand or quaint, but all of them are watched over by a holy cat, who officiates them under the eyes of Mother Sun and Mother Moon. After this, they are seen as bound for eternity, as the Mothers are themselves.
Marriages can be between two or more player characters, or between a player and NPC. Poly marriages can have a maximum of 4 participants, but NPCs are not open to poly marriage.
Marriage Requirements;
4 rps of a romantic nature with a minimum of 600 words each.
1 rp of your characters confessing/asking for their paw with a minimum of 600 words each. (Both/all parties must agree)
1 Literary piece or full art piece of your characters planning their wedding. Minimum [If Poly, Literary pieces can be replaced with rps with 600 minimum words each. Art pieces must be collaborative in some way.]
1 Literary piece or full art piece describing their wedding. [If Poly, Literary pieces can be replaced with rps with 600 minimum words each. Art pieces must be collaborative in some way.]
Once all requirements are met, please submit a ticket in the discord. Please note the wordcounts of all individuals in regards to rps and literature.
Betrothals
Betrothals are for people who are either too rich to socialize, or, to set up your kits with the kits of NPCs. (Excluding royals.)
NPCs are NOT guaranteed to say yes to your offers, especially if you are of a lower station than them, or they have never had a proper interaction. If you interact with a character a couple times and it ends well, they will be more likely to say yes.
In the case of an NPC rejecting your proposal, you will be refunded all but 50 bits (to pay for the postage familiars).
Betrothals for Players. Players must buy a "Letter of Proposition" for 800 bits from the shop in the discord, and then create a ticket with the subject "Betrothal Attempt with 'NPC' ". There you will write your proposition to the NPC in question, and try to convince them of why betrothing themself to your character would benefit them (especially if you have never met them). If they agree, you will circumvent the marriage requirements save for 1 art/lit piece about the wedding. After submitting that piece you'll be officially married with that NPC.
Betrothals for Litters.
Players must buy a "Letter of Inquiry" for 500 bits from the shop in the discord BEFORE beginning tryouts for their kit(s). After purchase players will create a ticket with the subject "Litter Betrothal Attempt", and therein write a proposition for the union of your two families and how this will benefit both parties. The kits of the character you are asking must be 1 to 3 seasons old to be eligible. If they say yes mods will roll randomly to make matches.
Litters and Surrogacy
Litters can be had by all couples, be it genetically or through a surrogate! Surrogates will affect how your kitten looks if they have a pre-established 'design', but they also have a higher chance of having surprise mutations, meaning your kits will be more likely to have them as well! But, if you're not interested in 'designed' surrogates, you can choose ones who have no preset description and design them as you please, however these surrogates do not have the surprise mutation chance.
Poly couples/marriages can only have one AFAB and one AMAB character parent the kits, or can opt to choose a surrogate outside their polycule, and designate one of the polycule to be the other genetic parent.
IMPORTANT! Once you decide to use a surrogate, they are PERMANENTLY TIED TO YOUR CHARACTERS! You may only use that surrogate in future litters, even in poly relationships where partners can genetically have children with one another. However, in polycules, you may choose a different genetic parent to pair with the surrogate if it is applicable.
You may only have one surrogate per couple/polycule.
You may only have one litter per season, meaning there is a 2 month irl cooldown on when you can choose to have your next litter. AFAB characters can have a maximum of 6 litters in their lifetime.
Litters generally have one or two kits, with three being the maximum. This is to keep the group a reasonable size, as well as to better fit the world and lore.
Accidental litters derived from flings are only applicable to amab/afab pairs, be it with a player character or npc. Surrogates are not applicable to flings or accidental litters.
Litter Requirements;
3 rps of a romantic/flirty nature with a minimum of 600 words each.
2 Literature or art pieces depicting your characters in a romantic/flirty situation. Must be 600 words minimum or a fullbody coloured piece (background encouraged but not required)
1 literature or art piece depicting how the characters decide to move forward, whether its accidental, or they decide to find a surrogate. Must be 600 words minimum or a fullbody coloured piece (background encouraged but not required)
The above requirements must be met before submitting a surrogacy form, which will be given to you after mods look over your litter requirements. You may then claim a surrogate from the surrogate list.
Once all requirements are met, please submit a ticket in the discord. Please note the wordcounts of all individuals in regards to rps and literature.
Combat
Combat in Aeverwylde is 'hit' based rather than HP based, with different enemies have different hit values one must meet in order to gain victory. As well, characters themselves have hit values based on their CON stat.
1 con is a hit value of 4, and increments up by 2 hits as the stat increases.
2 con is 6 hits
3 con is 8 hits
ect, ect.
More information on Combat mechanics can be found on the discord.
Characters who undergo enough hits to be forced to flee may choose to add a scar, the size of which will depend on the enemy encountered. A rat is only likely to give a small scar, while a fox will give a medium scar, and so on.
Your character will NOT be forced to die if they are defeated. There will never be an instance where mods or admin will force you to kill off your character.
As well, Aeverwylde generally uses a d12 rather than a d20, but a d20 may be used during bigger fights or plot relevant battles. The reason for this is to simply adjust odds/difficulty depending on the situation.
Currency
Bits and how to earn them.
In Aeverwylde, cats use Bits ъ as currency, which are small metal coins with depictions of the Mothers on either side. Bits can have various colours as they're crafted from crude metal ores, but all of them hold the same value.
Upon your character joining the group, they will be given 75ъ to use as you please! Be it to save up, or to spend on some items to start with.
Players can earn bits through roleplay primarily, however, art pieces can earn some bits as well, there are also daily ventures! Daily ventures can earn between 1-5 bits every 8 hours using the $work command.
Literature earns the same amount as para rp, which is 4ъ per 150 words.
Paragraph RP earns 4ъ per 150 words.
Script RP earns 6ъ per 150 words.
There are also art memes which will earn a flat rate of bits, which are stated in the memes description.
The minimum requirement for art pieces is a coloured bust sketch, but here is a more detailed list below.

Familiars
While familiars of all types can appear anywhere in Aeverwylde, these are the most common of the respective Kingdoms.
Willowshire; Small/Songbirds, Snakes, Squirrels
Corvidos; Corvids, Bats, Owls
Stormrun; Falcons, Weasels, Hares
Of the animals listed, they can be any european or north american or mountainous variety due to the temperate nature of Aeverwyldes climate, but please check in and make sure it's an acceptable species, as there are some that won't be allowed due to being too large/overpowered.
Alternatively while making a character, you can ask to have the mods roll a random familiar type which you can choose a specific species for.
Familiars are animals that appear and bond with a cat once they reach the age of 8 seasons. This is when a cat enters their prime, and their spiritual energy comes to life.
All cats have spiritual energy, however only those who are exceptionally strong spiritually will gain a familiar.
There are times when it can happen early, or late.
Generally Royal family members gain a familiar at 5 seasons.
While Familiars can't "speak" with their Cat, the two will eventually grow to be able to communicate. The Familiar can understand, and respond accordingly to Cat language and speech, but it is more of a mutual understanding than a true back and forth. This doesn't, however, dampen the bond a cat will inevitably gain with their familiar. When a familiar dies, the cat who loses them is often said to lose a part of their own soul as well.
If a cat dies before their familiar, most often the familiar will simply wander off into the wilds, never to be seen again.
The Goddesses
The general religion of Aeverwylde follows the Goddesses of the Sun and Moon. They're portrayed as an elegant songbird gryphon, and a wicked but beautiful bat creature. Stormrun also believes in their child, Tempest, who is the god of storms, and the sea.
It was said that the familiars that accompany some cats were born from an ancient battle between the goddesses, erupted from anger and jealousy. From the Suns feathers came all the Birds, and from the skin and blood of her legs, came the Snakes and their venom. The Moons fur fell to the earth and created Squirrels, while stray skin from her wings created the Hares and Bats, while from a single tooth did the Weasels emerge. It is said they were the Goddesses original children, and after seeing the new life they had unintentionally created, they fell madly back in love. To make sure their creations flourished, they tend to the earth, giving warmth, and cool, and rain, and sun.
The cats in Stormrun believe that Tempest was the first cat, who lashes out in anger towards his mothers after banishing him to the sea, while they fawn over their creations on earth. It is said that all non-familiar predators, and prey, are Tempests corrupted attempt at making his own life. He creates massive storms, and has taken countless cats and their familiars to the bottom of the sea. The centuries of anger and hatred have changed him into a horrible monster, covered in scales, with bulging black eyes, and glowing fleshy quills, he is occasionally referred to as a dragon. It is said the Goddesses created Cats for their own entertainment. They silently watch, and provide for the land, but, they are fickle beings who rarely answer the prayers of their worshippers. By doing their best to tend to the earth and to one another, as well as provide offerings, the Cats of Aeverwylde believe they can appease the Goddesses who created them. (Lest they decide to cast us all to the bottom of the sea along with Tempest, say the cats of Stormrun)
