Physical and Mental Health Headcanons
Physical: Rufus likes to keep himself relatively in shape. He’s not a body builder by any standard but he wants to keep himself healthy so he has a personal trainer to maintain a fit figure. He has a strong immune system, he doesn’t get ill very often (But oh when he does he’s down for the count for days on end), the most often ailment he suffers from is exhaustion from pushing himself through too many long nights and relying on caffeine to keep him going. He likes to eat healthy to an extent but isn’t a fanatic about it, as in he will occasionally indulge in grease ridden street food from lower Midgar but not often. While I don’t address post game timeline very often on this blog I have put thought into it and after the explosion that put him in a wheelchair he tended to rely on his Turks for physical therapy- wanting to have as few people as possible see him in such a ‘weak’ state. It only became worse when he contracted Geostigma, and then even after it was cured he suffered from lingering pain that wracked his entire body that he had to learn to push through, and his immune system took a huge hit, making him vulnerable to every cold, flu and virus that he got near. Mental: Rufus has a long list of problems with him, and while most of them are emotional it has taken a toll on him mentally. Despite ruling ShinRa (or perhaps because of it) and his father being well and truly in his grave- Rufus feels the constant weight of the man’s judgment of his every move, decision, and thought. He often has arguments with his ‘father’, be it a picture he’s projecting his argument on or even just a figment of his imagination haunting him. His constant need to be ‘better’ by his own definition then his father, while also trying to live up to his lofty expectations and the pressure of running the most powerful company in the world serves to fuel his borderline psychosis.Growing up in the business world, Rufus has severe trust issues, assuming that anyone trying to get close only wants something to benefit themselves from him or is trying to overthrow him in the same way he did his father. The only people he’s fully willing to trust are the Turks, and even among them only Tseng has his complete trust.
