I was 13 and we were on a plane to a class trip in the states (I go to a very well to do private school).
The only adult on the plane was the pilot. The rest were young boys such as I.
As you can tell, it was already a set up for disaster.
The plane malfunctioned and we crashed near a small island somewhere in the Pacific ocean.
Our pilot did not survive.
Things were fine at first, I met a boy named Jack Merridew. Jack and I grew.... very close. We still are, unfortunately. You may see us interact on us from time to time on here.
I get voted in as “chief”, despite Jack’s insistence that he should be because (and I shit you not) he can sing C#.
Things get... blurry from here. They weren’t so bad for a while. But boredom is a cruel thing.
The boys became frustrated, no longer wanting to pull their work. Many of them, especially the younger ones, kept making remarks about a supposed monster... a beast roaming the island. We didn’t know how to reassure them otherwise. Paranoia and discontent grew.
Much more happened after this, but it all mixes together for me. A power shift happened, and many flocked to Jack’s leadership instead of mine, under the lure of food and power, and out of fear for the beast.
Eventually I was left completely isolated, and a manhunt was set against me, with the rest of the island going up in flames.
I finally managed to escape to the beach where I..... ran into my father.
Who is a naval officer that had come to rescue us.
And then we all went home.
And we’ve been spending the past couple of years at the same school, forced to attend group therapies together, and most have sought me out for leadership again. And it’s fine. I don’t complain. They’re human, they made mistakes. Humans are easily swayed, and the medication helps.
The true irony is that my father’s line has been filled with naval officers for generations, and I was hoping to be next. I’d still like to.
