Andrew followed his brother’s lead towards the kitchen without a word, and grabbed the beer he was handed him. He looked down at it, but didn’t open it just yet. He wasn’t sure drinking was the best idea right now. “I screwed up.” Andrew repeated, running his hand through his hair, then rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. Where to start? And did he really want to talk about it, to say everything?

“I met this girl, Meghan,” He said, fiddling with the top of his beer nervously. “She’s the most innocent and lovely person I’ve ever met. She had a big argument with her aunt a few months ago, so she lived with me for a couple of weeks. I grew attached to her but… I think she should stay away from our family, from my bullshits, you know. She can’t be broken like us, or at least like me.” He paused, glancing up to his brother’s face. “I slept with her aunt. I mean, she’s a vampire, she’s not 60 years old, not physically at least. Of course, shits happened and…” He pursed his lips, taking a deep breath in to stay calm. “They don’t want me around anymore. Which is fine but I…” It was hard to admit for the younger twin, because he’d been bottling it up for months now. “I love her. And now she hates me.” He finally opened the beer and took a large sip of it. “I’m pathetic, I know.”

“Alright,” He spoke softly just to let Andrew know he was listening. It had sounded like Andrew was making a lot of mistakes lately, but how could he fault him? Zachary saw mistakes as a crucial part of the learning process. Humans -- or any other species for that matter -- couldn’t get better without learning from their own upsets. He had been learning that the hard way in the previous years.

Zachary opened his beer and took a pull as Andrew explained what had happened. He recalled meeting a girl named Meghan, who lived with her aunt, and had mistaken him for Andrew. Oh shit, he realized they were the same person. That’s why Meghan had been hesitantly awkward with him initially. Zachary nudged Andrew towards the living room so they could sit. Andrew looked physically worn out and emotionally strung out. He wanted to offer a safe space, a place he could find comfort and peace. “So let me get this straight. You like this girl, she lived with you for a while, you slept with her undead aunt, now you think they both hate you? That’s all?” He felt like there were other underlying concerns Andrew may have had. They’d come to light eventually. God, Andrew sounded like a broken mess when he said he was pathetic. It stung to hear his brother talk that way about himself. “Okay, maybe conflicted and confused, but I wouldn’t say you’re pathetic, Andrew.”

Noah only rolled his eyes still, looking over Zach with an amused smile. It was so strange how things easily just fell right back into a place they once were at, but after so long of spending time apart, it felt like a rarity. The vampire looked out across the city then and shook his head. “I would have looked like my dad.” He muttered off, sighing still. Even though he didn’t get along with his dad too well these days, there was still something so bittersweet about not growing up. “Sure you will champ. I’ll believe it when I see it.”

“Maybe.” He wouldn’t argue on that point. He’d hardly known Noah’s dad, having only met him a few times. He wondered how Noah felt about his dad. Were they closer now that he was older? He remembered hearing about how difficult the divorce had been on him. If he was scared about talking to his mom he couldn’t imagine how things might be with his dad. “Well, then you’ll see it. Someday.” He gave him a grin as he watched the city’s lights reflecting off high structures. “So anything else new in your life besides the obvious? It’s been a while since we’ve talked. Surely stuff has happened in eight years.”

Saying that Andrew felt like shit right now was an understatement. He felt vulnerable, pathetic, and miserable. The expression on his face wasn’t easily readable – was it pain, anger or sadness? Was he about to have a nervous breakdown, or to kill someone? One thing was sure, by the redness in his eyes, he’d been crying. Having a conversation with Cynthia was impossible, all the thing she said were true but painful, and even worse with Meghan. He lost her good this time.

Zachary was the only person he thought he could talk to without being judge. Their argument about staying home was the last thing in Andrew’s mind right now, and he just needed someone to prevent him from doing anything stupid – not suicide, of course, but going after some supernaturals completely drunk, for example. He drove to the address his brother sent him, and made his way to his apartment. When his twin opened the door, he didn’t even try to offer him a smile – he was too exhausted. “No, it’s not cops.” He said as he walked inside the apartment. He didn’t really pay attention to the fact that it was clean and tidy. He shoved his hands into his pockets, and stood in the middle of the room. “I just– I fell in love and that’s the last thing I needed right now.” He admitted, avoiding eye contact with his brother.

He was mildly relieved when Andrew arrived safely at his apartment. He wasn’t sure what to expect thanks to the texts he had received. He wanted to help his brother, be there for him whenever he was needed. He pushed away any thought of being the bottom of the totem pole and Andrew’s last solution. That shouldn’t be his concern. Right now he needed to make sure his brother was taken care of.

“Okay, good, that’s one thing on the plus side.” Even if it had been cops he realized he would help. Aiding and abetting someone on the run? No big deal, right? This was his brother, and not only that, they were literal flesh and blood. Identical twins from the same original cells. Zachary shut the door firmly after Andrew entered and watched him. He looked uncomfortable or unsure of what was next for him. He led him towards the kitchen and handed him a beer. “Love, huh? What’s wrong with that?” He wanted to better understand the situation before digging in if he had to.

With a shaky hand Sabrina reaches out retrieving the bottle of water from Zach, even though she knew the seal wouldn’t be tampered she looked down at it for a brief second realising it was just giving her something to do in this awkward situation. Sabrina shot the girl who complained a look keeping her eye rolls to herself, before looking to Zach; trying to form a coherent sentence that would actually make some kind of sense. She didn’t really want to lose any more of her dignity in front of the guy and she couldn’t keep breaking down in front of people— heck this was becoming too much of a common theme for the girl recently. What was wrong with her?! ‘’Have you came in here to roast me some more, because if you can’t tell I’m really not in the right frame of mind to take a second confidence beating today…’’ She managed to respond although her voice wobbles, gulping to keep down the tears that were slowly starting to ward off. As each girl left another fear washed over her, realising he’d be able to say what ever he liked without their being a witness, and honestly, Sabrina was begining to feel weaker by the minute knowing that she indeed wasn’t strong enough for this.

‘’Okay like I said—’’ But she pauses realising that being upset over it wasn’t going to stop him; that wasn’t the type of guy he was, so with a sigh and a tug at her hair she offers a weak smile.’’ if you were coming here to just throw some more insults that’s fine or what ever.’’ She shrugs although almost painful to do. ‘’Probably my upbringing, I guess?’’ She replies to his observation. ‘’I’m a lot like my parents— not that i ever wanted to be,’’

Initially Zachary paid little attention to her admission that she didn’t think she could take anymore. He waited until the girls had filed out. It wasn’t like he didn’t want witnesses for his own sake but more for the blonde’s. Having an emotional breakdown in public was embarrassing and she likely wouldn’t want all the extra attention the girls would have provided. He didn’t think he would rebuke her again unless he was provoked into doing so.

“Listen, princess, I brought you some fuckin’ water. Peace offering. Temporary truce. Whatever.” He gestured and point-waved towards the bottle she had. It wasn’t usual for him to enjoy roasting complete strangers nor did he care to make it a habit. He gave her a mirrored weak smile. “Uh-huh, maybe.” Zachary capped his water and began tipping it back and forth between his hands, watching the contents slosh to and fro. “Ever actually tried not to be?”
