Pretend- Tapestry'd Life (Apologies for my inconsistent exposure in these pictures) Pretend is *in my opinion* one of the best modern math rock bands out right now. The way they can achieve both such a graceful and floaty sound yet be so technical and intricate, it's astounding. This physical copy is beyond beautiful; 1 and 2 are different variants, and one thing I noticed was that the double sided poster that came with it correlate with each variant (genius) Spinning this record is so mesmerizing and sometimes when I put it on i feel like I'm leaving my body
Lower- Seek Warmer Climes (2014) I recently have become obsessed with northern european post-punk, it has such a distinct sound Love this physical copy; pure white variant, Adrian shaving his head with a regretful looking expression, beautiful
Real Friends- Maybe This Place is the Same and We're Just Changing
Foxing -The Albatross (2014) One of the prettiest, and one of my favorite, variants. Spinning it is fucking magical. -Dealer (2015) Beautiful splatter and I could get lost in the artwork and photography. It's such a rich vinyl to spin, "so here I sit, flooded in molasses" feels literal when I put this record on. What a beautiful band
My Knuckle Puck collection My god these dudes kill it. Without their ability to surpass the boundaries of pop punk and emo and create a sound all of their own in a recycled genre, pop punk would be obsolete by now. Every time I see them live I am amazed. Every time I meet them I am amazed. top to bottom: -The Weight That You Buried (2013) I bought this one the second time I saw them live. It was the night of the 2016 presidential election, and in a time of massive political anxiety, they (and Real Friends) gave me so much comfort and hope during that show. When I got back home I spun No Good acoustic and cried. The screen print on the back is genius more people should do that - While I Stay Secluded (2014) Grabbed this the last time I saw them, in a small bar/venue on the strip. It was the second time meeting them *the first time was at warped 2016, my best friend and I worked for catering, we served them food, and then they remembered us later and we hung out for a little bit. I gave John and Kevin a painting I made for them and they for real gave me a formal handshake and said they were so grateful*. I got to talk to Joe more than the first time and it was great. They're so genuine towards their supporters. Anyway just a plain yellow variant but very beautiful - Copacetic (2015) THE POP PUNK GAME CHANGER. Everyone should hear Untitled on vinyl - Calendar Days/Indecisive EP (2017) Indecisive was one of those songs that came out and resembled so much of what I was going through at the time, super cute baby pink variant, I think pretty limited? Not compared to the other pressing of this one but still - Shapeshifter (2017) I was thoroughly impressed with this album this year (which isn't surprising), my dad picked out this variant and I'm glad he did haha
My (almost finished) Real Friends collection These guys are the best, so genuine and humble and I'd go see them live every chance I get because their shows are always amazing. The energy in the room always floors me and their utmost respect for their fans is beautiful. They treat you like they've known you for years, in person and through their music. top to bottom: - Everyone That Dragged You Here (2013) Picked this one up at a local record store and was so surprised by the variant, I spin this one when I'm alone and wanna yell lyrics as loud as possible (especially to Floorboards) - Maybe This Place is the Same and We're Just Changing (2014) So. Gorgeous. Probably going to take better photos of this one for the variant details. This album got me through freshman year haha - The Home Inside My Head (2016) Who would have thought brown vinyl would be so pretty and comforting man dang
I'm a classic emo American Football- self titled (1999) [Deluxe Edition 2014] Probably the coolest special edition ever: extremely pretty smokey red variants, beautiful photography on the slips and gatefold, and the most detailed book ever with amazing studio photography, lyrics, explanations, credits, and even the tuning. Sides a and b is the standard album, sides c and d are the live versions, demos, and unreleased tracks
S- Cool Choices (2014)
This album is connected to a big section of my growing up, finally got ahold of my own copy (and for 50% off)
Thanks Sam
Starting off with my most cherished, my *unfinished* Bright Eyes collection. Conor Oberst is my biggest musical inspiration and the first musician I ever got into. His lyrics are pretty much my bible and without his art I wouldn’t be who I am today.
top to bottom:
- Fevers and Mirrors (1999) I consider this album to be my all time favorite. This was the first record I owned (given by my cousin), the first album I ever felt that feeling in your gut over. It’s a masterpiece through and through *sparing you of the gory details for now* - Every Day and Every Night (1999) Purchased at Amoeba LA, so glad to have found it. All 5 songs are great. Listen to A Perfect Sonnet when you’re mad at love - I’m Wide Awake, It’s Morning (2005) The most iconic intro ever “We’re going to a party! It.. It’s a birthday party. It’s your birthday party! Happy birthday darling, we love you very, very, very, very, very, very, very much.” - Digital Ash in a Digital Urn (2005) Easy. Lucky. Free. is definitely the most underrated single from him - Noise Floor (Rarities: 1998-2005) Amy in the White Coat is the only song (until discovering Your Fathers Eyes by Marching Church) that I genuinely sob over when I hear it. It hits deep. DEEP. - The People’s Key (2011) Given to me yet again by my cousin, probably the coolest gatefold/trifold in an album I own. Best last album ever.
So!
This account is pretty much gonna be an archive for my records (and some cd's) that I've collected over the years and are continuing to expand upon. All of my vinyls hold meaning to me, whether it be through cool stories on how I acquired them, if they're albums that I consider to be favorites, etc. and I'll share those stories in descriptions and stuff. I also want to use this as a way to share music with others! In the end this is a way for me to express myself a bit, gonna see how this goes xoxo
