I suppose that makes some sort of sense … it’s a plan. But definitely focus on the comfort bit, don’t think about the rest. Always the comfort.
It’s true. He wasn’t around for most of Sage’s life, so it was hard in the beginning but they’re thick as thieves now. Asher is so excited for the new baby so maybe I’ll make him do the night shifts as a punishment for missing midnight feedings the first time.
gotcha. Be right back! [She grins and steps away to grab a pair in her size and bring to the cash to pay before returning to Christie.] Ready?

That … sounds like there’s a story there. But I take it he’s home now, safe and sound with you?
Exactly! I swear it makes it about a thousand times easier. *grins, bobbing her head with one quick nod* The bacon doesn’t stand a chance.
He is. It took a... horrifying accident, but he’s home now. Not that I ever wanted him there in the first place, but we can’t turn back time.
I’d try going right in with the crying, but I don’t feel like it’s necessary. I’ve just got to pay for my ugly but comfy sandals then we can figure out the details of said bacon.

I’d bloody well hope not. Otherwise, it never hurts to turn on the waterworks - I always found that did the trick.
Yeah, but it’s not a win when you still have to live with them. Asher knocked me up and we got married and within weeks he was back with the army.
[She sniffles a little and puts on a pout with teary eyes] Like this? I find it way easier to fake cry with all these hormones.

Lucked out? I can’t believe it’s that easy. Who did you sell your soul to, and where do I find them?
Bacon— hold on, did you say bacon milkshake? I … Christ, think I’d have to give that a miss. But I’m sure there’s plenty else on there that’ll catch my eye! They wouldn’t have bacon chips— fries, would they?
I think it came in exchange for getting pregnant within a week of dating my husband. God gave me an angel baby to help our parents stop being mad about how many times I snuck out to make him.
I don’t know that I’ve ever had bacon fries there, but they can’t say no to a pregnant woman, right? We’ll just get them to put some bacon from their burgers on some fries.

I think I just really lucked out. I don’t even know who he takes after in being so sweet. [Kinsley smiles and tilts her head slightly] Would you be perceptive to going to Five Guys? I would kill for a bacon milkshake right now.

Took about six years, but I think we have a grasp on the whole co-parenting thing. Wow, those are all really cool names! I don’t know how you’re not dying from the suspense right now.
Finding that balance can be hard. I’m glad you eventually found it though, it’s so hard on a parent when you’re unhappy about your partner’s parenting. Especially when your child starts to sense it and becomes resentful towards one of you. It’s great for Leo that you’ve worked to make sure things will be healthy for him. Well... maybe not dying from the suspense of the name, but definitely dying from excitement to meet them. I knew I wanted loads of kids, so after the five year gap between my first and my second I’m definitely ready to hold a tiny baby in my arms again.

Not any of the other brothers? Who are Sage’s godparents anyways? I don’t think you’ve ever mentioned them.
Maybe Jasper or Everett but... when we feel like giving the uncles extra titles we can have more kids. Sage’s Godparents are mutual friends of Asher and I. Actually it’s the friend that set us up when Asher came back on leave.

Gosh, if I gave gifts for pride month I’d be so broke. You know like 90% of Asher’s siblings are somewhere on the gay spectrum? [Kinsley grins as she watches him and nods once he looks back to her.] I’m completely serious. Asher and I can’t think of anyone we’d rather ask.

He really is the most caring and kind kid. Like... to an adorable fault. He used to yell at me that he wanted to share if I said no thank you when he offered me some of his snack. I think I’m being preemptive with the pain here. I’ll give myself Crocs comfort before it gets Crocs bad.

Yes and no? I FaceTime him every week so he can talk to Leo, and we visit each other when we can, but we don’t really talk about much other than our kid. What names have you come up with so far? I love hearing about babies and baby names, even though I probably won’t be having more any time soon, or ever. I don’t know yet.
Eh, that’s fine. You don’t need to be friendly with him as long as he’s good to Leo, right? Some of the ones we have on our list are Phoenix, Willow, River, Nova and Raine. We don’t know the gender yet either we’re keeping everything a surprise.

Me too! [She says with a grin as she holds her stomach.] About that.. [Kinsley reaches into the back seat and pulls out a box. She brings the box to Henry and offers it to him, waiting for him to open it and see the Godfather themed items before saying] Asher and I would like to ask you to be the baby’s Godfather. What do you say?

Wow! I love him. [She laughs and waves to Henry as she gets out of her car] I want to get as much gardening done as I can before I’m too big to bend over anymore, but I think your lawn gnome will always beat me out.

It’s not so bad! I can think of a few other things that hurt more than swelling... More than being in pain I’ve just got to make sure to put my feet up a few times a day.
I just signed my son up for sleepaway camp...

He’s named after my ex’s dad, sort of. His name was Leonard, but I didn’t want to inflict that name upon an infant in the 21st century, so we compromised with Leo. And his middle name is Atlas, after the Titan in Greek mythology. Gosh, I have so much student loan debt, I don’t know if I can promise that.
Oh gross. Are you still close with your ex? His middle name is gorgeous though. I’m very partial to a more... unique? name. We’re going to wait until we meet our new baby to decide which name is going to be the name, but the list we have is nice and granola. I mean... it could also be a promise you just so happen to forget when it comes time to fulfill it? But... he’s still really young so a few dollars a month will add up to enough in no time.
