Part of the source of my creativity is making things I desired but didn’t have access to. I started sewing when I wanted maxi skirts (before they were called maxi skirts) and bell bottoms , but couldn’t find them long enough to fit me. That was the beginning of not allowing the limitations to prevent me from creating my own experiences. I started making what I call “Market place Soft Bangles” from craving being in the markets of the motherland and other indigenous places. I would channel the finding of textiles and treasures that stimulated the senses and transmuted the western suppression of my Africaness, right where I was with what I had.
