The way Ruby and Freya are written are on par with each other.

When making protagonists and antagonists who both are written with a traumatic back story, a common mistake many authors make is that one ends up coming across as more easily justified than the other.

Into the light once again, the remarried empress, cry or better yet beg, Bastian, revenge on the real one, all of these manhwas are examples of this specific trope that is all about the bias of whoever is creating or adapting the work. Only characters that the author has a positive bias for are allowed to act in unhealthy ways just because of their trauma while others can't because the author has a negative bias against them

How to get my husband on my side on the other hand not only created two women whose trauma wasn't designed to be some sort of contest over who's the most pitiful, but they both depict healthy and unhealthy ways to cope with trauma in a respectful way. Neither one of them is put on a scale deciding which one will be the beloved heroine and the stupid villainess.

One chose to remain kind despite the circumstances even though putting up with the abuse on top of an eating disorder with a smile was slowly destroying her and the other resorted to making someone else feel miserable to secure what they believed would save them from their own misery. Both were offered the same opportunities to recover from their experiences, and they both had different responses, Ruby chose to open up more and more and her determination to not repeat the cycle during her third life is what breaks it once and for all, while Freya had friends and allies far before Ruby did but she resorted to manipulation and selfishness out of fear, she wanted security, something she never could have with her mother but in doing so, Freya had hurt other people, not even just Ruby, but her own childhood friend.

(I know that Freya had self-centered reasons for using Ellen to get closer to Izek, but I do believe that Freya did end up truly caring for Ellen to the point of possessiveness)

That's what I love so much about Freya's character, she is a perfect balance between trauma being a reason for why a person would abuse others without full on excusing her behavior by placing the blame on her mom alone. I feel like I can still feel sympathy for Freya's situation without feeling like I'm being forced to completely ignore the trauma Ruby gained from her just because Freya had "reasons" to do what she did.

Not all victims of trauma will guarantee to become abusers, but most abusers have been victims of trauma if that makes sense.

All I can hope for now is that we get to see what Freya's homelife looked like. We know all about Ruby's ofc since she is the main character, but Freya clearly has mommy issues that played into the manipulative girl she is now, and I would like to see more of what turned her into the person she became.

they met post!wmmap and pre! Timeline 1 of Actually I was the real one.

Jennette unintentionally ended up helping Cosette until she was able to basically show Cosette that Keira isn't needed to be defeated for revenge.

Jennette singlehandedly made Cosette and Keira team up against their dad. (Again accidentally)

Jennette introduces Cosette to Athy. They both don't like each other very much. She then introduces Keira to Athy and they do get along pretty well.

Jennette is the big spoon and Cosette is the little spoon.

Keira is still wary of the two but gets along with Jennette well, Bro still doesn't like Cosette and Jennette by extension, Joseph likes Jennette almost like a little sister but is still wary of Cosette, Erez treats Jennette like she is Cosette's powerbank. The nobles see Cosette as one of the Palvis sisters who overthrew the father and Jennette as her temptress.

Athanasia doesn't like Cosette and visually tries to break the two apart, Claude doesn't give a shit, Anastacius is with Athanasia and finds Cosette to be a bad influence and helps, Roger finds Cosette threatening but isn't against the relationship, Ijekiel is mostly okay with Cosette if Jennette is happy, Lucas also doesn't care but feels the ick whenever Cosette (and Erez) are around.

The relationship started with Jennette thinking they are friends and Cosette using her to look good but ended up with Cosette falling in love first and harder. Jennette grew a crush on between Cosette's crisis and then evolved into falling in love with her after Cosette started to put serious moves on her.

Cosette gives Jennette Black flowers with poetry. Jennette keeps all of them and shows them to everyone. (Most are purplexed by the black)

Jennette has made Cosette handmade gifts and Cosette also keeps them around but refuses to show them to anybody.

Jennette gets jealous fast while Cosette doesn't.

Cosette plans the dates and Jennette sits down and looks pretty.

Jennette learns how to do black magic from Cosette and Cosette almost gets killed by Anastacius and Athanasia because of it.

Erez doesn't trust her. He can see all the mana around her and she refuses to talk /acknowledge it. She avoids him like the plague so they don't talk much. (Cossette told Jennette to stay away from him and who was Jennette to argue with Cossette)
