i think that, you know, if you have a sick teenager who you love dearly, who is always there waiting for you when you get home, who you cook for, who you drive to appointments, who wakes you up in the middle of the night because it's in so much pain and it can't find where you put its medication and then falls asleep in your bed because it can't make it back to its own, it's really not all that strange if your feelings for the child twist and evolve and complicate. especially if it's only the two of you. especially if you've been single for a long time because you've been focused on being a parent. if your child is your world, if you are your child's world, it's not that unexpected for certain wires to cross. and if you are very, very good to your beloved sick kid, who's to say you're not allowed to want something in return?
