Leatherdyke archives

We've done a solid amount of digging on the internet over the past couple years and found scans of a bunch of important leatherdyke-related magazines, zines, books, etc. in a bunch of different places, in addition to our own work at collecting, cataloging, and scanning whatever materials we've been able to get our hands on. This is by no means an exhaustive list, but we wanted to post some links for people to find a lot of the materials we've tracked down. We do archival work to keep our history and culture alive and accessible. We highly encourage everyone who sees this to share this post widely, share the links around, send them to friends off tumblr, download all of these materials, repost them elsewhere (every online archive is at risk of being taken down without notice, so the more places things are, the better!), and just generally spread it far and wide!

So, here's a bunch of links:

Our archive, which we're continuously updating as we scan and prepare materials we've collected. Digital Transgender Archive's Internet Archive page, where we found the full run of TransSisters. It's got a ton of trans fetish magazines, which can be tough to read at times but there's a lot of stuff to be found in there if you're willing to wade through it all. If you've seen chastity's Trans Leatherdyke History talk, a lot of that research came from these kinds of magazines

Middle and Ring has an extensive archive of lesbian materials sorted by topic, including a lot of important books, 12 issues of On Our Backs, etc.

We have not been able to track down any scans of the original run of the BIPOC leather magazine Black Leather in Color (BLIC), but there is a revived version of the magazine first launched in 2024, available exclusively online on their website. At the time of this post, they've put out 5 issues

Fat Girl has been publicly archived in full (save for some images of people who have not consented to be included in the archived versions) on the Fat Lib Archive, with a wide range of accessible options to view its contents

The first 3 issues of DaemonumX's FIST zine are available for free download

Not a digital archive, but if you're interested in physical copies, the long-running leather shop ASWGT produced issues 18-39 of the leather periodical SandMUtopia Guardian, and you can order a full run of the issues they produced from their website. The website looks ancient and you might be nervous to order from them, but we can confirm they're still active - we ordered and received all of those issues! You can also order single issues from them. And while you're at it, order some gear from them! They've got really cool looking impact toys!

We'll try to update this periodically! There's certainly other places to find things - if you know of any we didn't post there, we'd love to hear about them! Put links in the comments or send them to us over DM - we'll add them to the list, or if for whatever reason you don't want them added we'd love to at least have access to it for internal archival purposes!

Leather zines, from me to you

I've been yelling into the tumblr void about many things lately and lots of y'all are enjoying it (which is wild and very sweet).

So, here's a list of the zines I currently have written - if you want hard copies, DM me and I will mail them to you. (and, if you're in the PNW come to Olympia zine fest and you can get these and others from @tslurcollective in person!)

$5/per but always pay what you can (including $0 - I want leather folks to have leather literature!!). Any money I make from these is going straight to some emergency medical bills that insurance isn't covering.

We just uploaded all 6 issues of Volume 9 of On Our Backs to the Internet Archive! We've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to digitize a large collection of issues and have been slowly working through what we have, and we're hoping to upload more before long, and we're so excited to make more issues accessible to people online again!

If you know anything about the magazine's history since it was discontinued, you know there's been a lot of fighting over censorship and who has the right to access these essential pieces of S/M dyke culture. We'd love to post these and have no problem preserving access to them over time, but we want to plan for the possibility of censorship, so we want to ask for your help.

Download the files to these issues, and any other issue you can find (the rest of the publicly available issues we're aware of are included in our pinned post), save the file to an external hard drive, post it as a separate upload in other archives or anywhere you know of to share files like these. Make art from the scans, share screenshots on social media, show your friends. We'd love a link to help people find our archive and our page to support our work and see what else we do, but the important thing is that we get these scans to as many places as possible so it's impossible to completely wipe them off the internet.

Leather is an inherently anti-assimilationist queer subculture, something we need very badly these days. On Our Backs is probably the biggest set of cultural materials we have, and it'll be gone if we don't protect it.

one of the best ways u can preserve this history is by downloading each issue as a torrent! use qbittorrent or transmission and go wild. this allows people to share it without relying on a centralized source

given all the rising transphobia and shit, we should remember that white trannies are still relatively safe and will be able to endure more escalation more easily, we're not at the top of any shit list even if we near if, trans women of color however are very vulnerable, and we need to remember they're our sisters, not our shields

Squidward's whole deal is that he was a scion of Old Money who got really into Marxism in college and decided he couldn't live with himself as a beneficiary of the Bourgeoisie. He cut ties with his parents and went to live as a proletariat for a few years to better his music.

Of course, what was supposed to be a short term service industry job before he lived for his art has bloomed into just being his life, and life as a poor artist is never as romantic as one imagines. While the cost of living of Bikini Bottom is low enough that even a frycook can be a homeowner, it's not quite so low that he can afford the luxuries he was used to growing up.

His view of the Working Class as the downtrodden masses were rather tattered by years of living between SpongeBob and Patrick, who were not so much temporarily oppressed intellectuals as they were, well, SpongeBob and Patrick.

Still, through thick and thin he's never gone back on his decision to leave the money behind. The great irony is that he is ignorant of his greatest achievement—his superiority to Squilliam isn't turning a bunch of randos into a functioning Marching Band or turning a burger joint into a fine dining establishment, it's having the strength of character to look at all the advantages Squilliam had and choose to leave it behind.

Time to yell on the internet about the fact that "masc" is a MUCH newer term and yall have to stop calling historic photos of people "masc" or "transmasc" - no one fucking used that term in the 80s/90s. They were butches, they were dykes, they were genderqueer (a label we really have lost and shouldn't have), they were tomboys, they were women, they were men, they were transsexual, they were transgender.

ALSO for the love of god stop equating "masc" "transmasc" and "butch" with each other. NOT THE FUCKING SAME, TEAM. The next person to call me transmasc gets a face full of ice water my fucking god.

I really do think the current rise of global fascism is going to be especially bad for the massive and rapidly growing population of disabled people.

Already-inadequate social safety nets are already being dismantled and I think the cultural environment is going to become more and more brutal to disabled people.

We've seen some of this already obviously. The socially-acceptable, earnest explanations that the r slur is okay now because everyone's saying it, the refusal to do literally anything to protect disabled people from covid, the austerity so many governments are enforcing on the most vulnerable members of their populations.

Politics and culture are in lockstep on the insistence that disabled people are expendable. I think this has already changed the social landscape dramatically and it's only accelerating.

As the number of people too disabled to work surges from the longer-term effects of an unusually disabling virus, as work becomes increasingly brutal and underpaid (your actual income number MAY be the same, but you can't buy as much food or housing with it, and new hires are being paid even less), as social services continue to be gutted, people who care for disabled people are going to increasingly see us as burdens and see our survival as incompatible with their own.

If you aren't yet disabled, PLEASE stand up for us and find ways to organize additional support instead of just dumping your disabled loved ones on the street to die.

"I'd never do that!" Good!! Hold on to that!!Bc the Overton window will shift your opinions and politics if you let it.

So many people who were righteously angry five years ago about governments suggesting killing disabled people was an acceptable price to keep the economy running, are now repeating those same conservative party lines almost word for word and thinking it's different because they're used to it now.

It's going to become increasingly common to abandon disabled people. It's going to be described as setting boundaries and protecting your peace and prioritizing reciprocity.

But if those are your real priorities, organizing additional support is a dramatically better option than removing every source of support a disabled person has all at once and comforting yourself with the thought that finding new help all at once is the responsibility of the newly homeless person who is seriously disabled.
