here's the truth: yes. stupid censorship that ends up hurting people can happend. thats what happend to youtube, they freaked out when someone pointed out the amount of comments of pedophiles youtube had in childrens videos (search "matt watson" for more about this) and youtube, to save their asses, made moves that ended up hurting innocent creators (see)
BUT ao3 isnt youtube, right? I mean, the amount of people that believes every single word they say is amazing. you guys love them ! They are good people, not a cold corporation that doesnt mind hurting the people that made the site big, right? Then why do you compare the situations? Why don't you trust them to not censor people blindly? They don't care enough?
I'm not saying is gonna be easy. But when someone says "child porn should have a place in a site like AO3" and you are like "ok BUT" it gives me a red flag. It should give YOU a red flag about yourself. You aren't "yes, this is truth, ao3 needs to do something about it! and we should have some way to protect ourselves if they don't to it right or if their method has mistakes. This is something that needs to happen but also needs to be talked about". You can't talk about morality when you are so afraid of censorship from the people that you "trust", so you can turn around and allow people that write about 5 year olds getting raped and get off on it be protected bc of your fear of not having a stable site where you can read and write. And you are so selfish in your own victimization that your brain says that is ok to compare your situation (aka!! people not wanting!! child porn!! in the internet!!!) with nazism or dictatoships. What the fuck.
